Sex and Television: A Virgin’s Perspective

I plan to stay a virgin for as long as possible. Only on my wedding night do a plan to change that. So you might wonder how my virginity might affect my understanding of certain TV shows. There are a lot of sex based things that you see on TV a lot. And I’m limited to network television. I don’t see the shows that have actual uncensored nudity in it. There are some things that I might not understand and possibly never will unless I actually wind up having sex at some point.

What is my perspective? For one, I do not understand the whole concept of flings. This should be known as different in my mind to one night stands or casual sex. It is when a person intentionally has sex with someone that they don’t really like that much, if at all, in order to get back in the game or something like that. Why would you choose to have sex with someone that you don’t like? These are often one time things and we might not see these people again. But this might be one of the problems that you see on TV that are far too common in real life.

Another issue I see is when people are having sex with people that they haven’t known that long. This could even lead to a prospect that I like to call love at first sex. Who wouldn’t want their relationship to begin with we met, we had sex, and that was just the first day of us knowing each other? This happened in the first episode of the show Salvation. In a flashback episode of The Big Bang Theory, Leonard was about to have sex with someone he didn’t know less than twenty-four hours ago. In an episode of Family Guy, Bonnie talks about how it was only several hours after meeting the man who would become her husband that she gave him her virginity. Does anyone else see a problem with that?

So many other issues are brought up. Some people, often women, regret having sex the next day. Then why have it in the first place? Too many divorced couples wind up hooking up again later and they often always regret it, or the women do. But why aren’t the men seen as having a sexual conscience? There have been a lot of shows about men who are constantly hooking up with women and they don’t care most times about any negative consequences and often don’t wind up with them except for when they do catch feelings for someone, but not always a hook up at first.

Often, a huge problem is the amount of cheating that is going on. And often, they want us to root for those who are being unfaithful to people. And another thing I wonder about is why they can’t just put the people who are supposed to be that way together in the first place. What’s with all the will they or won’t they crap? Does that actually happen in reality? I haven’t known of any relationship like that in real life. Do any of you?

What I do wonder is why abortion isn’t brought up as an option more than it is. I’m glad that people do not just mess up with pregnancy and then decide to kill the baby. Maybe it is still taboo enough that they figure they don’t want to rock the boat that much. Or maybe, they can have character that are so amoral, but never that amoral. Of course, people can debate if it is actually amoral or not. I can think of only two shows so far that have used abortion with main characters.

Now while I’ve written a lot thus far about sex and television, I haven’t done much about what being a virgin has to do with my lack of understanding about things that happen. There is a recurring joke that I see on TV. It has a man on the phone or on some type of connection while a woman nearby is doing something sexy. The man gets distracted which leads to this exchange:

Man: Damn it!

Woman: Already?

I don’t get this. What does it mean? Why does the live studio audience find this funny? Does it have to do with erections? That’s my only guess, but it is hard to know that much. I still am not fully sure what masturbation is. Does one have to be naked to do it? Why are tissues involved at times? Why would a married man need to do it or do it with pictures of someone who isn’t his wife? Does a man have to ejaculate in order for it to count?

Perhaps my virginity is one of the reasons why I don’t understand why sex is so common in TV. All of the people who have it seem to enjoy it all of the time so it must be good. Why else would people often get into trouble for it?

There are so many other issues that I probably wouldn’t understand if I did have sex someday. Why would people use handcuffs? Why agree to that? Why do spanking or other forms of beating? Do some people really get a warped sense of pleasure out of it? And why would anyone want to watch someone use the bathroom? That’s just messed up regardless of which gender it is you are or which gender it is you would look at.

What are other oddities I’ve noticed? For one, I’ve often noticed that people claim to have sex half a time. How is this possible? What does that even mean? And there are all these sexual positions that people often talk about, but you wouldn’t think that there could be more than ten and that’s even more than I think is possible. (Of course, that’s only if you do traditional, vaginal sex.) One show that I saw made it seem like the orgasm was the end of sex. You have to end there?

Of course, there are various issues with there is self censorship or other issues I see like that. I do not know why they can’t be more straightforward so they don’t confuse the audience. Like in an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where the sculpture looked like a vagina. They must not realize that not all of us have seen one. And if they never say the word, then how are we supposed to know for sure? It took a lot of watching that episode for me to understand it.

An 8 Simple Rules episode brought up an issue that you’d think would be very important to address for teenage boys: unwanted erections. Only they had never said the word so it would have been confusing to some people. I had no idea what that was for quite some time and I didn’t have a father to ask as he died when I was five. There are a lot of guy things I might never know. Who would I ask?

I still don’t know if sex scenes are just called that or actually have sex happening in them sometimes. I do not know how often an actor or actress is naked when their character is. And something odd that I notice from time to time is that there is some sort of tell that virgins have. What? Apparently, you are having or about to have sex and the other person (not a virgin), somehow knows that you are one. Is there some sort of secret way of knowing?

What’s with TV shows often not just spelling things out? Do they expect us all to understand? Maybe there are reasons why things aren’t clear in some way. Maybe there are lawyers or others who object to certain things being said or not said and we just have to fill in the gaps ourselves (no pun intended). So there might always be confusion.

I think that is all I can think of for this post. This is the last of the Sunday updates. Sorry to be getting rid of them so soon after starting them. The Monday updates will or should continue for the near future and there will be random other days posted as well. If anything changes, I’ll let you know.

A Look at the Weinstein Effect: Version One

If there is one thing that won’t be changing any time soon, it is the fact that people will be accused of all sorts of problems, such as sexual harassment, and there will be issues for them as a result. I’m going to do a look at some of the cases thus far and what has happened. I will limit this to the television world for now because there isn’t much need to tell readers of this about the others affected. Note that this will not include everyone currently accused right now. Also, not all of these mentioned could be accurate as I could not find some follow-up information on some of them. Take any with a grain of salt.

Kevin Spacey: His show, House of Cards, will be ending without him as he was fired from it and pretty much anything else he would do or still be doing were it not for these allegations. I doubt that there is much of a future for him.

Louie C.K.: With some of these allegations possibly not true, I do have to admire ever so slightly that he admitted that the rumors against him were true. Of course, it would still be better if he hadn’t done the stuff he did in the first place. His show, Louie, is now in development hell where it will seem that nothing will ever come of it and there won’t be any more of it. He was more or less fired from it and I doubt that they could do his show without him. It’s named after him and I just don’t see it continuing, even to just wrap things up.

Ryan Seacrest: It would seem that the allegations against him might not be true or if they are, he is as of yet unaffected by it and remains employed in at least two different jobs: Live with Kelly and Ryan as well as American Idol. We’ll see if any problems do arise as it would seem unlikely if they didn’t if he weren’t absolved from the issue in some way.

Jeffrey Tambor: He was largely fired from what he was doing and is leaving projects with his old show, Transparent, ending without him. He is more than likely losing his role to a woman, and that’s if the show ends up continuing at all.

Danny Masterson: While he was working on The Ranch, he wound up fired from it with the season being split up into different parts, something Netflix normally never does. He was written out of the show in some way that I wouldn’t know about as I haven’t seen it.

Johnny Iuzzini: You might be wondering why I put someone as random as him on my list. It is because of the unusual things going on with his old show, The Great American Baking Show. It went on a sudden hiatus and has an unknown future. Will it show up again? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

T.J. Miller: His show, The Gorburger Show, was instantly cancelled upon the allegations against him being brought to light. While he remained in Deadpool 2, other issues could result from things like this happening. I think that an actor from Silicon Valley was fired and his character killed off because of the allegations against him, but I can’t keep track of them all.

Steve Harvey: I couldn’t find much, if any, information about the allegations against him. They might be so minor or not that important. He is currently unaffected and remains as a host of Family Feud, Steve, Celebrity Family Feud, Little Big Shots, and maybe other shows I can’t remember.

Brad Kern: The showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans was fired from his job. I don’t know who the new showrunner will be. I just hope that they can do a better job than he’s been doing over his tenor on the show. Of course, being a bad showrunner and being a bad person are two different things.

Anthony Anderson: He is currently unaffected be the allegations against him. I couldn’t find that much about it and it doesn’t seem to be too serious. Me not liking him has more to do with him being really annoying instead of the allegations I just learned recently about him. He is still employed on Black-ish and To Tell the Truth.

Leslie Moonves: Since the allegations against the CBS CEO are too recent, there is an unknown fate right now about how it will affect him or his marriage to Julie Chen. Maybe when/if I do a part 2 to this will there be more known about this.

Charlie Rose: He was fired from his role on CBS the Morning and his PBS show, Charlie Rose, wound up cancelled pretty much instantly. How did they fill the gap in the schedule so fast? I don’t know. But now it seems like it was never part of the network in the first place since they get along so well without it. Of all the TV stars with allegations against him, his might have been the one I was most upset by.

Matt Lauer: Like nearly everyone else that I’m talking about, he was fired from his role on The Today Show. With all of his creepy behavior coming to light, one can wonder why it took so long for them to get rid of him.

Garrison Keillor: While the allegations against him might have just been a misunderstanding, he was still nonetheless fired from his job and the show was rebranded without him. I have a book of his that I have not yet read, but I will read because I’m not going to avoid reading a book if I can help it.

Tavis Smiley: So many people came to his defense as they think that he didn’t do anything bad outside of breaking rules. This is one of the few accused that people have defended. Still, he was fired and his show was cancelled. There’s another person that people defended, but he isn’t on this list. I might have to wait until part 2 to talk about this other person who was on Parks and Recreation as well as the show Master of None.

Roger Ailes: With his being one of the earlier before everything snowballed, some might be offended to learn what had happened to him. While he left his job after the allegations, he wasn’t exactly fired from it and he still got a shitload of money. Now he’s dead and won’t cause anymore issues.

Bill O’Reilly: He was fired and his show was rebranded from The O’Reilly Factor to just The Factor. While he still does some work, it might not be the scope that it used to be. He has a podcast and it is likely that his books could still sell well.

I don’t yet know if I will do a part 2 of this later or not. You’d think that with the title of this post that a second post is certain. I guess that we will see as I just don’t know what all could still change. I mean, now a person who helped found #metoo is accused herself. There will probably only be more of some sort of varying degree and I should do an update of this at some point. I just don’t yet know for sure of if it will happen after all. Still, be on the lookout for it in the future.

Top Ten Villains of The Flash thus Far

There was a terrible thing at www.tv.com where they did a top ten on The Flash villains, yet included bad villains and those that are anti-heroes instead of true villains. I also didn’t like some of the choices that they included. I have decided that the rectify this, I will come up with my own top ten of the villains that have appeared on The Flash thus far.

#10 Ramsey Deacon- The first of the villainous bus metas to appear, he had the power over technology and this affected Barry’s new suit. He caused a lot of problems on his quest for revenge, but his reign came to an end when he was sent to prison. Later, he tried to escape, only to wind up dead at the hands of the man who created him.

#9 Edward Clariss- One of the most pivotal minor villains, it is very likely that Wally would have died in the Flashpoint reality due to his terrible ways. In the next episode, Doctor Alchemy gave him powers in the new timeline and he tried to cause problems again, only to wind up dead at Savitar’s hands. If he had not taken out Wally, Barry might not have undone Flashpoint.

#8 Laurel Lance of Earth x- With more powers than the other versions of Laurel Lance than we have seen at the moment, she took great strides to try to get revenge on the people of earth 1 who had beaten the Nazis from her earth. She ultimately fell short of her goal, but she left her mark.

#7 Dominators- Perhaps not the best villains of any crossover, they still caused a huge mess that caused many problems on earth 1. With their ultimate goal being taking out Barry Allen or taking over the world itself, they got pretty far into the process until all of the heroes worked together to take them out. And they might appear again from time to time.

#6 Eliza Harmon- She was able to get people to think that the flash had turned on them for a bit. She did a lot of damage to team flash in a short amount of time before her ways ultimately got herself killed. She also provided critical hints into who the real identity of Zoom was.

#5 Russell Glosson- I’ll always be annoyed that they wasted him as a one-off role and didn’t make him more of a recurring villain or even a main villain. With the power to effectively slow everything down and the creepiness factor that makes a good villain even better, he did a lot of terrible things with his thefts and kidnappings. After he was captured, he was killed off, which was bad in my mind because then we could never make more use of him as a villain.

#4 Eobard Thawne- Him being too secret of a threat throughout the first season is why I wondered if he should even be on the list in the end. But he was a great threat, being able to manipulate his team into doing a lot of his bidding. He has appeared again and probably will keep showing up from time to time. Here’s hoping that the show lasts until 2024 so we can see the crisis that he’s involved with.

#3 Grodd- At first, he just seems like a more sentient King Kong with not much else to offer. Only he is very smart and often gets people to do what he wants. He has a lot to offer from time to time and I do hope that they make use of him as often as possible.

#2 James Jessie- He is up here representing the whole trickster family. I hope that we see him in some sort of crossover with the new Toyman from Supergirl. He may just seem to have elaborate tricks, but he can do much more than that. He knew how to potentially kill the flash using a movie as inspiration and has no reservations about trying to or actually committing mass murder. And I love the fact that he is played by Mark Hamill. Here’s hoping that the trickster family keep appearing over and over again so that his legacy will live on in the show.

#1 Clifford DeVoe- To me, he’s the best villain that the show has had thus far. Very slow and calculating, he knew how to create new metas just so that he could eventually get all of their powers. This made the smart man even more powerful and dangerous. What I also love is that the eventual attack that took him down was drawn out over many episodes. He was very well developed by the writers and made for a very great villain. Here’s hoping to more like him in the future.

Well, this is my top ten. I don’t know if I’ll ever do more of them for show’s villains in the future or not. I might have to do one for Gotham once it ends next season. Other than that, I don’t really know what else there is to say. I might update this in the future.

What’s with the Upcoming Terrible Looking Comedies?

If nothing changes, there will be two posts for this blog on back to days in the near future. This could mean that the Sunday post will be the lesser of them and the Monday post will be the better one, since if you know me through facebook, then you might know the strange order of how blogs are posted to my personal page. I only share the most recent post of any blog so thank you for actually reading all of these posts that you do if you don’t read the other ones. Just know that you will never get the fullness of all of this or any of my blogs if you rely on facebook for it. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. Let’s get to this post, shall we?

There are times when the shows that you see promos for look bad. Often, it means that the show in question will be bad. Other times, it means that the promos suck and the show is good. But you can never know for sure. You see, there are many comedies coming out in fall 2018 and if I’ve seen a promo for it, then it looks bad. I don’t recall this happening before. But let’s get to a rundown of these as I do my first ever post about current events in television that I’m wanting to do.

The Cool Kids: Let me get this straight- This is a show about older people acting like they used to when they were in school. And why would this be a good idea for a show? I don’t get it. Plus, I don’t want to sound discriminatory, but do people even care about shows regarding older people? I’ve never seen them and can only assume that people wouldn’t be interested in it.

Rel: I don’t know that much about the show, but it doesn’t seem like a good idea and I don’t think that it would last as a result. I can’t exactly skip this when I have seen the promo for it and it wasn’t that good of an impression on me.

The Neighborhood: This is probably the least bad looking out of all of them and could be good. But all of the promos just make it seem lame in some way, shape, or form. Good and notable actors are often wasted in bad roles because there is just no way that they can save bad writing.

Happy Together: I’ll admit, at least this seems way better than Two and a Half Men was. That was the only notable show that I can think of relating to a musician. But it seems like such a dumb premise that I might be surprised if it lasts that long.

The Kids are Alright: The less revealed in a promo, the less good the show will probably be. Troublesome kids are often not a good recurring plot on a show and while I have watched those shows in the past, I do not know if there can be too many of them or not. There’s a reason that a show like Outnumbered wasn’t ordered as a series and only a pilot of it was made.

Single Parents: Often, the shows that aired after Modern Family often wouldn’t last, weren’t any good, or both. This show looks downright awful. Who cares if you haven’t had sex in a long time? I’m 27 and still haven’t had it. This show could have done some good in terms of a common occurrence, but, to me, it seems like they are more mocking these types of people than doing comical aspects that happen with all types of parenting and not just single parents.

And that is it: my thoughts on why all of these comedies I’ve seen promos for look bad. Will any of them last? I still think that Black-ish sucks horribly and it remains on the air. We’ll see how long any of these will last. Maybe they’ll all be short lived or maybe only one will be pulled in the end. But it seems just downright weird that they are all happening at once.

Notes on the Upcoming CW Schedule: 2018 Version

There will be some notable changes to the schedule of the CW network in this most upcoming season. The most notable change will be talked about pretty soon. Also note that this blog will now be posted on Mondays and Sundays until the month ends. I will let you know if anything changes regarding that in the future as it probably will.

Sundays are being reintroduced to programming on this network for the first time in around a whole decade. This will change a lot of things with the schedule. I wonder why they aren’t doing reruns during the summer to help us get used to the fact that it will be back. The reintroduction of Sundays means that there are shows being introduced without replacing anything. They are Charmed and the returning Legends of Tomorrow.

There are some news shows that replace old shows on the network. What are they? Well, All American replaces The Originals and Legacies replaces iZombie, only iZombie will return in the future with its final season sometime at midseason.

Speaking of shows that are returning in replace of others, the returning Crazy Ex-Girlfriend replaces Life Sentence and the returning Black Lightning replaces The 100, only it will return in the future at some point in the future at midseason or during the summer.

What other returning shows are coming later? The final season of Jane the Virgin will be at midseason. There will be a new show called Roswell, New Mexico. There will be another new show called In the Dark. The 100 and iZombie and will return later as already mentioned. I guess there’s not much else to mention now, although I might mention more later.

And that’s about it for this post. I hope that I can write what I want to when I want to in the future so that the posts aren’t later in the day like they have often been doing in the past. I want to post these as soon as I can and I don’t want to do dumb drinking games. I just need time to write in the future. If only I had that, then I had nothing to worry about. But at least I have two jobs so the time lost is for a good reason. And I might want to work on this blog less than I have done in the recent past.

Late Night with Seth Meyers Drinking Game

Well, here I am again, not planning enough ahead and not having time for a better post. So I figure that I might as well share something like I want to since I have posts locked in on Sundays for the near future. I'm lucky that I even have all the time that I do to write these posts for this or any other blog of mine. With not much else to do, I might as well get into the last of the late night shows that I can think of and do a drinking game for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Take a shot if any of the following happen:

  • Seth does a bit devoid of comedy and promoting something with a political agenda
  • Seth's monologue seems just like his bits on Weekend Update used to be
  • Any bit with people happen
  • Fred Armistad acts strangely
  • They do the weird thing where Fred makes up crap of some sort for some reason
  • Anything political is mentioned

2018-2019 Cancellation Predictions

So much of this blog is coming later than I want it to. The post on the cancelled shows for last season will probably be one of them. But I thought that I would finally do the post that I have the most fun doing. I will write my cancellation predictions for the upcoming season. Enjoy.

ABC predictions

Modern Family- All I need to hear are rumors that a show might be ending for me to put them on this list of mine. Would a long running show just randomly end out of the blue? Yes. It happened to The Middle last season and could easily happen to this show if people just decide that it is right to end it even if there are no issues in terms of ratings or other problems.

Dancing with the Stars- I think that they have been changing it too much in recent times for this to still be considered safe. I don’t know what is with all of these random edition versions of these shows that make it different, but it seems bad enough that it would be in danger of ending.

The Conners- This show is effectively them doing Roseanne without Roseanne as she is a terrible person who caused her own demise by continually acting out. I don’t know just how many shows have gone on without their main character, but few, if any, are ever thought of a better product after it. While Two and a Half Men continued for a while without Charlie Sheen and the original Charmed lasted for five more seasons without Shannon Doherty, I don’t know if the rest of Roseanne’s cast can last well on its own and I have to think that a lot of people wouldn’t like it or want to see it.

Dancing with the Stars: Junior- Has there been a reality show that had a spin-off that lasted except for shows in the Bachelor franchise? That’s why I think this will get cancelled. While I will never understand why people like this franchise, that’s their choice and I hardly think it is a bad show. Still, one would have to think of a lot of failures of children doing adult themed reality shows. Only MasterChef Junior has lasted and I don’t know why this one would.

The Rookie- The timeslot for this show has been disastrous more often than not. Even when shows at this timeslot due get renewed, it is in spite of their bad ratings. Also, I don’t think that this show could last otherwise due to problems with ratings that Nathan Fillion’s shows tend to have.

The Alec Baldwin Show- Sundays are more of a death slot on ABC than Fridays have been in the past. I also remember that Alec Baldwin’s last attempt at a talk show failed. Plus, a lot of people hate this guy for no good reason so they probably won’t want to watch anything with him on it. I wish him the best and wish that I could watch this show, but probably won’t be able to most of the time.

Fresh off the Boat- They are randomly moving this to Friday. That’s why I think that this might not last. Even if you want to point out that sitcoms have been on Fridays on this network before, I should point out that they were inexplicitly cancelled despite relatively good ratings.

Speechless- This is on here for the same reasons that the last one is on the list. You don’t move shows that you care about to Fridays. It just doesn’t happen most times without any good reason. I still do not know if this show is any good, although I might find out this season.

Shark Tank- There are signs that this show isn’t as cared about anymore as it might have been in the past. Who would have thought that moving this from Fridays to another night would be toxic for it? We saw last season when they didn’t even air this show from March onward. Why air a show they care about only part of the year and not all year round.

Single Parents- I swear that every new sitcom starting this fall that I’ve seen promos for looks terrible so I might as well put them all on my list of what could be cancelled. Most shows that look bad are bad and one can only hope that most bad shows wind up cancelled.

The Kids are Alright- Typically, the less they air about shows in promos, the less interesting they are. And it can get tiring seeing the same old formats of kids causing problems or just yet another show about families and it just doesn’t seem any good, what I know about it thus far.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Why would they wait until airing this until the summer of 2019? Well, there might be a good explanation as it could just be accommodating the airing of the more important Marvel movies and to avoid major spoilers about it. Possibly, it will be unrelated to the plots of any of the movies and be doing its own thing for a while. Still, I think that they wouldn’t air a show they care about this late into the schedule and it has cheated death enough times that they should fear the reaper unlike what the song suggests. It just can't keep staying around.

A Million Little Things- There are enough shows with this type of plot that I know that they are not likely to last long. All of these shows tend not to last even though a lot of them wind up loved by the critics. I still don’t know if I will wind up seeing it or not.

Whiskey Cavalier- This is on here due to the bad title rule and the fact that it seems too generic to what is considered an average plot device for many shows nowadays. For some reason, I just can’t gather much information about the show and that is a bad sign for shows typically.

American Idol- While this is still popular in some ways, there are enough problems that could potentially happen with it still. For one, there might be pressure to replace Ryan Seacrest as host and people may not like him replaced nor might some people want him to stay on. Besides, this show was over for a long time before and it could happen again.

Child Support- I don’t think that I’ll ever wind up watching this show, but it just seems too strange to last as it just doesn’t seem that good or interesting. I mean, why is nearly all of this weird in some way? Why have these kids being as weird and strange as they are?

For the People- This probably shouldn’t have been renewed in the first place. When that happens, it is often that these shows won’t last much longer than what they have already. Even if this does wind up airing with the other TGIT shows, then I don’t think it will get a ratings boost.

Splitting up Together- Maybe this will probably just as easily stay in the future. But often some second season shows just don’t have whatever momentum they had the first time around. I might never be able to guess what sophomore rating slumps might happen, so I’m going to guess this one might end in the future and we’ll see what happens with it.

Schooled- I almost had this as safe, but it was passed over as a show before and things might change with it since a character won’t be able to show up on this show due to an actor’s commitment to their new show. Plus, I just can’t be as hopeful with spin-offs as I have in the past.

The Fix- This is here due to the bad title rule. Plus, I don’t think that the plot is something that will last when I was looking it up earlier. Some of these picks on newer shows might be harder than they’ve been in the past as I can’t access a site I used to for the information that would help me with this post.

Grand Hotel- Often, you just have to look at the plot of a show and see how lame it would seem. There are hardly any shows that I can think of that use such a different type of plot that winds up lasting that long in the future. While going for something different can be good, it doesn't work out well in ratings most of the time. Look at Time after Time.

What I think is safe: American Housewife (the only thing worrisome about it going into the next season is the timeslot change, but it is on its third full season in a row meaning that it will not get cancelled as it doesn’t make any sense for them to do that), America’s Funniest Home Videos (while this show relies too much on physical comedy and most people might not realize that it is even still on, I have to say that this will probably last longer still).

Continued: The Goldbergs (I don’t see why this would end any time soon and hopefully they don’t do something like The Middle did last season when I had it as a safe pick and you’d think that they would get rid of the new Schooled over this since I doubt they would get rid of both during one single season), Black-ish (this is critically loved and many would like this sort of thing in this day and age), The Good Doctor (only a showrunner change or the death of Freddie Highmore would have me doubt this show lasting longer), Station 19 (this may be a bit risky to put on here, but I think that it will last).

Continued: How to Get Away with Murder (this has to be close enough to syndication, if it isn’t already, and even if it is already there, I don’t see problems with it that will cause it to end), Grey’s Anatomy (why would this end?), 20/20 (I just do not see this show as possibly ending any time), The Bachelor (this will last a long time as people like it for whatever strange reason they do and it makes me wonder if they know just how few relationships on this show actually last).

CBS predictions

The Big Bang Theory- This show could wind up getting too expensive for them to keep renewing it one season after another. I mean, they have made an episode of Supergirl for the same amount of money that they spent on paying one single actor for an episode on this show. Plus, as usual, when there are rumors that a show might end, then I’m putting it on my list of predictions.

FBI- I think that this will be the least likely of all of my predictions to wind up cancelled. Its timeslot is golden and I can’t think of a show that failed here in over a decade. So why am I predicting it as likely to be cancelled? I think that public distrust of the FBI may lead to waning interest in shows about them. Plus, Dick Wolf does have his share of failures.

God Friended Me- While this show looks good, that can often mean that it WON’T last. The only show that I can think of that focused on God in some way and lasted a long time was 7th Heaven. While this show looks like it might actually be a good way of focusing on God and isn’t out to make people or him look bad, I still have to worry that people won’t like it or watch it. Plus a lot of Sunday shows don’t last that long currently. Still, I'll have to see what pastors of mine would think about it.

Happy Together- A rock star is someone’s neighbor and that’s about all that the plot seems to offer. I guess that there are just too much repetitive plots that they have done in the past that they went with something dumb that’s new at least.

Magnum P.I.- This is on here due to the reboots won’t be successful rule. Look at Minority Report or Limitless. Few shows can actually last as a reboot and there are only a few examples of successes with it and far more examples of failures.

The Neighborhood- While I said that all of the fall sitcoms look bad, this at least has the distinction of looking the least bad of all of them. While that is not really a compliment and it could wind up being good, I don’t yet see how it could last right now.

The Red Line- This is here due to the bad title rule and many shows that start at midseason tend not to last on CBS or any network for that matter. Maybe this will be a great show. But one has to wonder what Instinct had that no other drama that wasn’t a spin-off since The Unit had that got it renewed and why all of the other ones get cancelled.

Fam- I might run out of ways of saying, see previous example and use the same rule, so I don’t think that I will keep doing that over and over again. But this is midseason on CBS, it doesn’t have a good title, and there’s not much else to say about it than that.

The Code- Once again, this is a midseason show on CBS and it has a bad title so I don’t think that it will last much longer than whatever run it might end up having. One might want to do a prediction of which of these shows will wind up burning off on Saturdays during the summer.

Blood and Treasure- Maybe this will last or maybe it won’t. All I know is that if it winds up being a type of show that is different than the rest of CBS’s shows, then it won’t last. Even if it is the same, then it won’t last either. And if it is reality, then I don’t see it lasting.

Instinct- When shows probably shouldn’t have been renewed going into the season, then it is likely that it will fail the next time around. Still, I like Alan Cumming and the show is pretty good, even if not much wind up separating it from the other shows on this or any other network.

Celebrity Big Brother- I don’t even know if it will wind up airing this season or if it is just going to air at some point in the future. Regardless of that, it might have only lasted against the Olympics due to some people just not caring about it or getting bored with what was on. A lot of these celebrity like shows just will not keep lasting like they have and it might be too different from the main version in some ways for people to think that it is fair. Plus, when would this air anyways?

Elementary- With so much of its future in doubt, it is likely that the upcoming season will be promoted and wind up being the final season. I don’t even know when it will wind up airing and the later that it starts on the air, the more likely in my mind that it doesn’t last. Still, it has lasted a lot longer than it could have under other circumstances so it could stick around.

Ransom- It doesn’t matter to us if this show lasts or not. It matters to viewers in Canada. That alone means that any number of things could wind up changing with it in the future. It was cancelled at one point and that alone could be why it doesn’t wind up lasting.

Murphy Brown- While the last two revivals of old shows got pretty good ratings, it is hard to tell for sure what fans of today will think of a show from back then. Plus, the 18-34 demographic remains the more important thing to track than the total viewers. We’ll see if this lasts or not, but I don’t have that much high hopes for it.

NCIS: Los Angeles- This show might be aging too much for them to keep renewing it in future seasons like they have in the past. Would they really keep it around when they have offed other shows that were long running too? Remember what happened to the CSI spin-offs.

NCIS: New Orleans- It should be a good sign that this has a new showrunner going into next season as the old one was quite terrible and that’s not even taking into account the sexual harassment scandal against him. But it is the least liked of the three NCIS shows and the fact that they film it in New Orleans could be a mark against it as well. It is likely to have more than enough episodes for syndication going into next season.

I’m going to take a bit of a break here to wonder: which of the previous two shows is more likely to end in the future? People saw them going against long running tradition by them getting rid of Scorpion last season and that could mean a show that’s not as old could be getting the boot. Of course, they might want to try to milk more out of New Orleans than they would with the other show. I know that both of the NCIS spin-offs are not ending in the same season, although they could end in back to back seasons. I think that it is more likely that they take out Los Angeles at the moment, although it could logically go either way in the long run. There are pros and cons each way.

Hawaii Five-0- This is also on the list because it is aging too much and might not last because of it. They have more than enough episodes for it to last in syndication and I just don’t know if they would want to risk taking off a show that’s still a hit like this in order to make room for newer shows in its stead. One might never know which long running show could bit the dust in the future.

Blue Bloods- Here’s another show that’s aging and well past the point where it needs to produce even more episodes than it has already. If they want to end this, they will. We can only hope that we get enough forewarning and they don’t just end it like other shows have.

Man with a Plan- Last season, they delayed this until later to accommodate the filming schedule of Matt LaBlanc. This season, they are probably doing the same thing by putting this on at midseason. But you don’t put shows you care about at midseason and unless this returns quickly like it did last year, then it won’t be heading into enough episodes where syndication is guaranteed like it would be if this were on at the fall. The point is, it might not be a good sign that it’s not on during the fall even if we shouldn’t read too much into it.

Life in Pieces- For the first time ever, this will be on at midseason instead of during the fall. Returning shows at midseason are normally always a sign that the show is in danger in some way of ending in the future as shows they care about aren’t delayed until later for no good reason.

The Amazing Race- While this still gets so many awards (or, at least, one), it seems that they are caring less and less about finding time to air it. It is already bad enough that they cut it down to just one single season a year. Now, they just air it whenever they can and just don’t seem to care much about when it is on. This show may become a thing of the past and it doesn’t help that the next rumored season seems to just be about contestants from other reality shows doing this one.

Criminal Minds- It is always telling that when CBS does its (somewhat) early renewals that this is never one of them. While it does get renewed later, it is likely that this will become too expensive to make in the future and they will get rid of it as a result.

Mom- With this in syndication and WB owning this show instead of CBS, this means that this is in danger of ending in the future. I don’t think that it is in too much danger compared to other things, but I ended up thinking that it made more sense to put it here instead of as a safe prediction.

What I think is safe: 60 Minutes (primetime’s longest running show isn’t going anywhere ever), 48 Hours (even on Saturdays, people can’t stop watching true crime), Survivor (has this ever been in danger of ending? The only thing that would worry me is them changing the show too much), Bull (with this being the third full season in a row of this show, then it is highly unlikely to end and only will if Michael Weatherly dies), MacGyver (this is in a magic area right now that only the death of Lucas Till could stop it from getting renewed next season)

Continued: Madam Secretary (I might be going out on a limb with this one considering its awful timeslot, but I just don’t see it ending although this might be the one I’m most likely to get wrong), S.W.A.T. (something very disastrous would have to happen in order for this to suddenly fail), NCIS (this is highly unlikely to end anytime soon), Young Sheldon (would its popularity really fade so quickly? They have a better Sheldon than Jim Parsons), SEAL Team (I could be wrong not predicting a sophomore slump in ratings for any of these networks, but I don’t see why a show like this would fail)

CW predictions

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend- Sometimes you have no way of knowing if a show will keep lasting or not. Other times, they announcing that the upcoming season will be the last and you know you can put it on your list as a freebie since you know it will end at the end of the season, whenever that is. We’ll see if this is delayed until the summer or not.

iZombie- Here’s another freebie. This show will be ending sometime next season. It will have its final season. I hope that it ends well, although you can never be too sure. If I had to guess, I’d say that it is more likely to have a good ending since they know it is ending.

Jane the Virgin- Even shows like this wind up finding an end. I still don’t know what to think of the last season’s cliffhanger and wonder if it is even worse than the first season’s. All I know is that I’m not sure if I can trust that the ending will be what everyone wants since this show has more twists in it than your average Arby’s curly fries.

All American- The vaguer a promo is, the less likely you’d think that it will last in the future. All that I know is that most of the CW fall shows have failed in recent history and I just don’t see this being any different from them. And what will make this different from something like Friday Night Lights?

Charmed- While I might enjoy having things to watch on this network on Sundays, the fact that they went so long without shows on that night makes me question any show getting good ratings on a night like that. Plus, with this being a reboot, it is also not likely to last as a result.

In the Dark- This doesn’t sound like a good show and the only way that a midseason show lasts on the CW nowadays is if it starts around January. With me not knowing when it will start, I can only guess that it will be bad and get low ratings.

Roswell, New Mexico- I’m pretty sure this is a reboot and those don’t normally last. Even if it did last, I still have to be weary of the chances of any midseason CW show lasting because they normally have done a lot of renewals by then leaving the fate of a show like this in doubt.

The 100- This should be well past the point of syndication by now so if it suffers from lower ratings, they will get rid of it quicker since they know it won’t be a hit on their network still. Plus, them airing it as late as they did into the summer should be a sign to doubt its long term chances going forward.

Dynasty- While there might be a lot of chances for it to continue, it is likely that if it does, it won’t be on the CW. Why would they isolate a show they care about to Fridays? Still, it has a very sweet deal with Netflix and is likely to last even if it doesn’t last on the CW.

Supergirl- Them splitting the last season up so that it was still airing in the early summer is a bad sign. While it being on Sundays might not be that bad of a problem, it could be the final nail in the coffin. It will have enough episodes for syndication after the newest one and if the ratings do collapse over a night where a network hasn’t aired anything for around a decade, then they will have no choice but to get rid of it in the future. I hope that it keeps lasting, but maybe it won't.

Riverdale- I don’t know if I can have high hopes for this show going forward. If they are done with the whole Black Hood storyline, there might be less interest in this show. I also don’t know if there will be any issues with ratings, but since it won’t have enough episodes for syndication to be automatic, then I have to worry about its chances then as a result.

Legends of Tomorrow- There are signs that this might be the least cared about show in its franchise. You should always be worried if one show gets a short shaft over another show. I still maintain that it is likely that this show, which has not yet had a full season, will not be cared about as much as other shows in the franchise and it’s likely that they would just wind up on other shows anyways.

Legacies- Why would they get rid of The Originals just to do a spin-off of it? I don’t get it. I think that it is possible and likely that they are going to be done with the whole vampire thing that you’d think that most people would be tired of by now anyways.

What I think is safe: Black Lightning (with this show being as popular as it was last season, I just don’t see a topical show like it ending anytime soon), Arrow (I just don’t see this as ending any time soon as long as Steven Amell is still alive), The Flash (this might be the network’s most popular show right now and even if it isn’t, I still don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon), Supernatural (if one thing is certain it’s that the CW will always have this as a show in the future)

FOX predictions

Gotham- With it on its final season sometime next year, there is no reason not to see it as not ending in the next season. This should be the last freebie on the list. It should have a good ending and I might do a list of the top ten villains of this show in the future.

The Cool Kids- This looks awful and it is very often that shows that look bad are bad and a bad show is often cancelled by the end of the season. Plus, multi-camera shows shouldn’t be lasting long on this network as the last one that they aired was back when New Girl started.

Rel- Here’s another example of a show that looks bad. What’s with all the multi-camera comedies that FOX is doing? Don’t they remember the absolute failure of I Hate My Teenage Daughter? It is such a strange reversal that I just don’t see it turning out well. It’s a shame because a lot of their single camera comedies were doing great and they got rid of all of them for no good reason.

9-1-1- When people don’t like a show, it tends not to last. I don’t know if I’ll ever watch it and know for sure if it is bad or if it is good. What I do know is that I don’t have high hopes for it, especially if the rumors are true and an actress is leaving.

Last Man Standing- If the rumors are true and they are recasting at least two of the characters going into the new season, then I don’t see it doing well on this network as a result. Does anyone think that them doing a revival of this was the sole basis for the cancellation of The Last Man on Earth? They might not have had a good reason to do that otherwise and didn’t want people to be confused by the two shows with similar titles. It’s a shame too because this show really sucked and should stay cancelled.

Lethal Weapon- There have been enough off screen issues that I doubt its chances of survival in the future season. Still, this might end up lasting as I think that it should have enough episodes for them to have to keep it for syndication. I wouldn’t be too worried if you are a fan of this show, but you might want to be kind of worried a little.

Showtime at the Apollo- Actually, I don’t think that this is even coming back for future seasons at all. I do not see it listed as renewed and the weird acts on this show can always find work elsewhere. Plus, it’s not like Steve Harvey doesn’t have enough jobs without this continuing. I don’t know why they would want to keep this show and still not announce its renewal. I remember that this show was on for a while and if it never comes back, I’ll consider this right.

Cosmos: Possible Worlds- The last Cosmos was a miniseries and not meant to last that long. While this could be different and meant to continue, I wouldn’t know if there would be much interest for a show about science on a non PBS network TV station. Have any of them that weren’t on Saturday mornings ever lasted? I don’t think there has been enough of them to know for sure.

Star- I don’t see much of a future for this show. It won’t have enough episodes going forward into the next season for syndication to be automatic and it seems like if anything were to go randomly, it would be more likely to be a show like this than anything else.

The Resident- Enough people in the medical community hate this show that it could turn into backlash that would lead to its cancellation. I like it, but can easily see the problems with it and know why all of the doctors in real life wouldn’t care for it.

The Masked Singer- If it’s a reality show, it might as well be mentioned as cancelled because a lot of them just don’t last. Plus, if it’s on FOX, it would have to have Gordon Ramsey in it to have a chance at success or most of them just die off as quickly as they get here.

Mental Samurai- This is also on here due to the reality shows won’t last long rule. This could be a good show, but one can never know for sure and even I as someone obsessed with Survivor tend not to like most reality shows besides it.

The Passage- I think this is on here for being a science fiction type show and those tend not to last on network TV or anywhere else for that matter. Even if it isn’t science fiction, I have some reason for it being on here and that’s why I think it won’t last.

Proven Innocent- As much as I might like this courtroom drama, a lot of them don’t last. Where will it succeed where Conviction failed? The plot might not be as original as they wanted it to be and I just do not see it lasting long, although I hope that I’m wrong if it is good.

Spin the Wheel- What can people get out of this show that they can’t just get out of The Price is Right or The Wall? Most game shows don’t last and even if they do, it will likely just disappear at some point in the future anyways as most of them do.

What I think is safe: The Gifted (with it being such a huge hit last season and getting early renewal, you wouldn’t think that it would disappear again the second time around), Family Guy (I’m not sure if it will keep lasting, but it seems likely even if the plots are often terrible), The Simpsons (despite the fact that it is never as good as it used to be, I just don’t see it ending anytime for any reason)

Continued: Bob’s Burgers (this time, a timeslot change might be good for it as now it won’t be subject to random whims of when it will air), Empire (this has never been in any danger of ending that I know of and I don’t see why that would change any time soon)

Continued: The Orville (I might be going out on a limb saying that this is safe, but I don’t see why it would fail even if Seth McFarland has had a lot of shows that haven’t lasted a while), Hell’s Kitchen (I don’t see this ever ending as long as Gordon Ramsey still hosts it)

NBC predictions

America’s Got Talent: The Champions- Except for MasterChef Junior, not one reality show spin-off that I am aware of has ever lasted. Do you know of any that I might be forgetting somehow? Plus, if this is just a best of the best as it seems like it is, will people even care about it?

A.P. Bio- This probably shouldn’t have gotten renewed and it seems like it’s such a horrible show that I do not know why people would like it or watch it. The show Breaking Bad would not work as a comedy, especially one that’s as awful looking as this.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine- Sadly, when most shows are cancelled and get brought back, it is often that they do not last long when they are revived. Look at Timeless. Look at Medium. Look at Taxi. Those are just three examples and this could become another one.

Ellen’s Game of Games- I don’t think this is the type of show that should last as it is far too strange. As much as I like it, it doesn’t seem to be formatted well and a lot of it seems unfair. Maybe Ellen’s talents would work better on a more traditional game show instead of one as crazy as what she does on her talk show. Plus, if you are a show aired during the hiatus of other shows, then you normally don’t have that much of a long term chance anyways.

Good Girls- Why would people want to watch a show about people doing bad things? And why are they doing bad things? Do I care? It is a limited run series and those have far less leeway that shows that are not on for less episodes at a time. I see this as like Shades of Blue and it will probably end like it did in the future because it just wouldn’t last.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit- The only thing I’m worried about here in the timeslot change. I do know that a show as gruesome as this would probably be better suited at a later timeslot anyways. As to why it is changing after all this time? I have no idea.

Midnight, Texas- It should be a good sign that this went from airing in the summer to in the fall. But the issue is that it is been on a break that’s lasted far too long. What shows go on a hiatus of over a year and wind up lasting? Look at Person of Interest, Secrets and Lies, or Shades of Blue.

The Blacklist- This is not only moving to Fridays for no good reason, but it also moving to midseason for no good reason. Why would they need two hours of Dateline when they can just air this or something else sooner? Is Dateline so good that you have to give us such horribly huge servings of it?

Manifest- With this being science fiction, I’d be worried enough. But its timeslot is terrible and often results in more failures than it should have. I mean, you’d think that with The Voice being such a huge hit, the shows after it would last, but they often fail.

I Feel Bad- Who names a show this? This will fall under the bad title rule. Of course, I don’t think that the plot of it looks very good either. You really shouldn’t put the word bad in the title of a show. I wish that there was more I could say about this.

Abby’s- This is a comedy set in a bar and I don’t know if any show besides Cheers ever lasted while having that as a plot. Plus, the outdoor filming aspect to the show could make things harder than they were wanting it to be. The last thing you want is production problems in a show.

The Enemy Within- Most spy shows do not last on network television. This could be a good show or it just won’t last. I might have to put it here as the bad title rule as well. I’m less interested in NBC as I am in the other networks so maybe that’s why a lot of their shows seem less impressive.

The Gilded Age- This is here due to the bad title rule and there’s not much else to say, yet I’m still going to write a lot more of this sentence where I talk about all the weird things in life because, why not? I do not know what to write, and yet, I’m still writing things.

The InBetween- Here’s a supernatural type show and while they are often good in some way, they also do not last that long. Sure, you may point out that Grimm lasted a while. But what else has ever lasted on this network? Some shows last on some networks, some don’t.

The Titan Games- Here’s another reality type game show that I just don’t think will last. Most of them do not and even if they do, they can mysteriously disappear for a while or forever. I don’t know what it is with that trend of TV shows anyways.

What I think is safe: Will and Grace (this is a freebie, meaning it is already renewed going into next season, thus, not putting it here would be dumb), Superstore (NBC needs a sitcom that will stick around for most of the season so they will need to keep this), This is us (would a critical success that is so close to syndication really go anywhere? I don’t think so), The Wall (I don’t know why people like this variant of Pinko, but it is likely to stay around for now)

Continued: The Voice (this isn’t likely to go anywhere, ever), The Good Place (the people who stuck with this should be glad that they did as it should stay as a result), Blindspot (this should be safe going forward even if there is a bit of a risky that they won’t need more episodes of it anymore), Chicago Fire (why would this end? I can’t think of a reason), Chicago Med (I know that this timeslot has been bad for some shows in the past, but I still think that this is largely safe going forward), Chicago PD (this franchise should be safe, although it is odd that they will now be airing all on one night)

Continued: New Amsterdam (here’s a risky prediction of a new show as safe, but I think that it could easily last another season), The Village (when I predict a new show as likely to last, I’m taking a risk, but I might as well do it as I cannot think of what could be wrong with it in the end)

Well, I can’t think of much else to say except closing out the post in general. Sorry that this took as long to write as it did. What will be coming even later than usual are the reviews of cancelled shows from the previous season. I still am waiting to be caught up on two series finales before I post that and I have a lot of it to write still. Wish me luck with all the writing I have to do.
