Young Sheldon’s Future Predicament

For those that watched The Big Bang Theory and paid enough attention to it, you would remember that a major theme of that show at some point was that Sheldon’s father George was dead. On the show of Young Sheldon, his father is alive in it with no signs, outside of one early episode, of having any major health problems. I don’t know if they revealed the reason behind George’s death and I won’t know if the time frame will match up at all based on what was revealed in the two shows already. But I do think that there is a future predicament that might have to be dealt with because of this.

It might have made more sense if Young Sheldon had just started with Sheldon’s mom as single. But then we would have no way of ever knowing who George was. It is nice to see a family that seems more like it is full and complete before tragedy strikes it. We have gotten a lot of insight into who George is and what he is like. We wouldn’t have gotten much, if any, of that if he was never a part of the show. But there still relates to the issue of what might happen with his character in the future.

Will they ever address the issue on the show? You’d have to imagine that they would or probably would have to based on what we already know and have been revealed about the future of the Cooper family. But Young Sheldon is a comedy. Could they deal with the serious topic of death when they don’t really need to? I see a catch 22. If they don’t ever address George’s future death, we will miss some of the key moments of the family relationships that happened because of it. If they do, could they handle it well and go without use of that character for the rest of the show? They might be doing fans a disservice by never addressing the issue while also creating a world they can’t go back to if they do kill him off before the series is over and done airing.

There might be a solution to this that could work. They could wait until near the end of the show to write the death in and have it lead off to the end of the series and Sheldon’s journey to being a man. Nothing would quite cause a kid to grow up like the death of a family member, even if it does happen at a younger age than he would like. They could do a special flashforward episode that skips a head for a bit in order to focus on George’s death and how it affected the family while having the rest of the show be normal and happy with George in it.

I think that addressing it at some point should be a given. What I don’t know is if they should go a long time without George’s character on the show towards the end of it. We could see great plots of people moving on and dealing with the loss like in 8 Simple Rules. Even when Marshall’s father died in How I Met Your Mother, they did it in a great way that respected him without losing too much of its focus on the humor of the show. I just hope that the writers have a way or idea of what will go on as this is a bit of an elephant in the room situation.

What do you think? For those of you who aren’t mad at a potential spoiler (but not really) of this show, I was wondering what you think the best way Young Sheldon can handle this death in the future and even if you think that it should be dealt with at all. The writers put themselves into a potential problem, but I hope that they can deal with it in a good way in the future.

Coronavirus TV Predictions

I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to do this post if only because it might seem insensitive. But I decided that I might as well do this anyways since enough has gone on and changed already that I might as well predict what might be different as a result. First, I might as well explain what’s changed already.

Some shows like The Resident and FBI have ended their seasons early due to not being able to film the rest of what they wanted to. New Amsterdam won’t air a pandemic based episode anymore which could cause some issues with continuity as they were introducing Daniel Dae Kim to the show now with that episode. (Ironically, Daniel tested positive for the virus after filming what was supposed to be a made-up version of a pandemic.) Will that episode ever air in the future? I don’t know. Other shows were delayed with their filming and might not be able to air more of their seasons until when they can go back to when they can film stuff. We might get the rest of seasons much later or perhaps some seasons will be combined in a way or changed in ways that they wouldn't have before.

Somehow, the pilot process was most affected by this thus far. I thought that was more in February and I don’t know just how much of it as I would like. If I had to guess, new shows will still get made in the next season, but there will be a whole lot less of them than usual and you might not see most of them until midseason. I have no idea just how many have already been filmed, so we might see a whole new sort of shows than we normally see as a result.

In addition to less new shows, there will probably be a lot less cancellations as a result of what is going on with this pandemic. There will be cancellations for sure and not even stuff that isn’t already certain or announced. But a lot of what normally would have been cancelled won’t be this time around.

Depending on how long this whole thing lasts, it could be quite a while before new episodes start airing of what isn’t already filmed. So how will networks make up for this deficient? I think that they might have to import more shows from cable offshoots or their streaming services to air as if they are new for the first time despite limited availability before. CBS might air a lot of their all access shows on TV in the stead of the new shows that they normally would have aired. NBC might do the same with Peacock. It will be hard to know what will happen with all the shows since they’ll have to air something and they don’t like to air reruns as much anymore.

It will be hard to tell how much this will affect television and for how long. The writer’s strike was the last major event to have changed TV a whole lot and it was good as Canadian shows aired. I won’t know for sure what all can and would air in the place of what we would normally see or how long shows might be messed up as a result.

That’s all I can think of for adding to this post. I won’t be back on Mondays for a while and this will be the last of what you will be seeing on Mondays unless I just randomly roll a Survivor episode here. But the Tuesday updates should remain in the near future for quite a while and I hope that it doesn’t get messed up in any way like it was last time. I’ll see you tomorrow with another new post.

When Specials and the Like Replace Reruns

Outside of syndication, it is hard to know when reruns are going to happen and even if they will at all. There tends to be a lot of special things replacing reruns and this happens a lot in the current world of today. Reruns rarely happen so specials take over the airdates in their place.

This is a very common occurrence, especially when it is Christmas season or around the time of another holiday. There are tons of times when they don’t air the usual reruns. There could be a breaking news event that some networks will want to cover. It could just be when they want to air the usual special, be it March Madness or The Oscars or something else like it. It is possible that a major event that is unusual on one network will cause a new special to air against it instead of just boring old reruns.

Why is this a thread? Well, as stated before, some things need to air at certain times of the year and that is why they would replace certain reruns. Sometimes they just want to air something else instead of the usual reruns that you would typically see on. There are tons of specials to show and they may just want to air something new at some point in time so why not air it in place of what otherwise would have been boring old reruns? Doesn't it make more sense to air something new?

This happens a lot nowadays and will continue to happen for quite some time due to peak TV. So many people will see random things, some of the even insignificant in some way, instead of the usual reruns that might not have even aired at some point anyways. It can be annoying in some places, but often isn’t that bad in other places, depending on what you want to see.

That’s about it for this post. I hope to write more of the usually themed annual posts at some point before too long, but I need the time to do it. This leaves me with little excuse as that is pretty much all that happens nowadays. I hope to be back with some of them soon and we’ll see what all I post in this blog in the future. Keep reading this if you can and are interested in it.

The Ten Worst Villains of Arrow

If you had seen Arrow over the course of the show, you might have found some villains to be worse than other ones of theirs. Some of them were not good in the way that they were supposed to be. I thought that will all the villains of this show, I would go through which ten I felt were the worst and why.

Note that I had not seen a lot of the show so this list may contain some notable omissions as a result of the lack of knowledge that I have as a result. Also note that criteria important to this is that I won’t be including villains turned heroes or even anti-heroes as I plan to stick with those that were villains all the way through. I might focus on anti-heroes in a future blog post, but only the good ones. Now, let’s get to the worst villains of Arrow and why I think that about them.

#10 Evelyn Sharp- A woman who betrayed Team Arrow, she didn’t really do as much as she could have as a villain outside of causing few damages here and there, but she left little impact on the show even if she was a major part of season 5 for a while.

#9 Beatrice- She was very forgettable as a villain and didn’t really have much to offer on the show. I mean, who was she really? She didn’t do much and it was hard for me to remember who she even was in the show when I was looking at various villains of Arrow.

#8 Jerry Bertinelli- Outside of being part of a crime family, he never did much and didn’t leave a mark that was notable in any way on the show. He was boring and had never little to offer the show in terms of being a good villain. What do you recall him doing?

#7 Cyrus Broderick- Again, we get to a very boring and forgettable villain that never did much on the show in terms of making a mark or getting stuff done. With little influence on the show, it only seemed worthy that he be on this list.

#6 Emiko Adachi- Despite being a big bad, she was very poorly done and was hardly did much that had any major influence one way or the other in the show. She had little mark on even the second half of the season outside of killing the previous big bad, but she never had many accomplishments and seemed like she was only jealous of her brother while doing very little outside of what major villains did instead and having small marks on what she did.

#5 Damien Darhk- He seemed like he would have been better playing a Sith lord, but didn’t really seem like that engaging of a character as he seemed kind of bad, but wasn’t someone that I hated for any of the right reasons. I didn’t have the same hatred of him when he was on Legends of Tomorrow, but I do wish that he could have been done better.

#4 Ricardo Diaz- I think that part of the reason why I didn’t like him was that he seemed bad at the way he acted on this show, whoever played this character. I couldn’t get into a person that seemed like he was too loud and engaged more than he could have been. Simply not being as good an actor made this character one I didn’t like and I especially didn’t like how he replaced a far better villain nearly halfway through the season in question or lasted longer than he should have.

#3 Tobias Church- Outside of being part of Adrian’s team, he didn’t really seem like he did much and I wasn’t even sure this was an Arrow character as I thought he might have been on Black Lightning. All he really did was try to kill Oliver and get killed by a more overzealous villain as a result.

#2 Sheck- Again, this person was very forgettable and he offered very little on the show outside of being part of a bigger group of villains, but not really doing much as a villain. What all did he do? I can’t think of much influence that he had on the show.

#1 Talon- You might not remember who this person is or what he did. That’s exactly why I have him as the worst villain of this show. He was more or less a one-off throwaway character who was part of a team that had more influence than he ever did. He did little to nothing and is the worst villain of this show in my mind as a result. Do you know what he did cause I don't.

I hope to be back next month or sometime with the best villains of Arrow. I might also cover the heroes of this show that I enjoyed most and even the anti-heroes which might cover the shady heroes, those who were both villains and heroes, or just anyone who could have come close to skirting both sides of this show in a notable enough way. I don’t know if I’ll do the worst heroes of this show and probably won’t do the worst anti-heroes either. I just hope to be back with something interesting when I get to doing more posts of this blog in the future.

Franchises Reviews

There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to different franchises in the TV world. I haven’t seen all of them or more than one show in a franchise. I figure that I might as well tell you about some of them, if not even all of them that I’ve seen. I will largely only talk about the main shows in the franchise and not any others that happened via crossovers with these main shows, even if they are technically part of the same franchise in some way. I don't have as much as I could have, though.

NCIS franchise overview: People investigate various crimes relating to the Navy or Marines, but it can be a bit more interesting than that as all sorts of crimes can be investigated. There’s enough focus on the characters that the crimes aren’t the main focus even as they are always seen in each episode.

Pros of the franchise: The shows are separate enough that you don’t have to see all of them if you want to watch just one instead. The shows aren’t just carbon copies of the other ones as the characters are different in each one and the shows are different enough that many people could watch the other shows and not just see the same thing over and over again with little telling them that something is different from the other shows.

Cons of the franchise: Its long time on the air can make it drag on in some places and it changes people in the cast often enough to be very annoying in some cases. The general format of most episodes can have an annoying sameness to it as the basic plots are very formulaic.

Verdict: I think that this is a great franchise worth watching as the shows are different enough and all are interesting enough to be good to stay into long term. We’ll see just how long these continue to last as some of them might be ending soon.

Arrowverse franchise overview: Part of a comic book adapted TV series, every show in this franchise has characters, some more notable than others, that are all part of a huge world of interconnected series in the most ambitious and crazy franchises ever made on television. They have a lot going at once and all of the shows are different in their own way.

Pros of the franchise: Every show is different and has different things going on with it making it cool and worth keeping into. Every episode is important in some way making it hard to not keep up with it if you are a fan of just one of these shows.

Cons of the franchise: You have to be a fan of all of these shows in order for it to work and make sense in the end and have to see every episode of all of the shows for everything to make sense. The casts are always changing. Death is almost never permanent which can be annoying. The villains of the seasons can be predictable in some cases and annoying in others.

Verdict: I love this franchise a lot, even if I am often annoyed by it to the point of wondering why they can’t just have any episode every now and again that one can miss without being too important to the story of the show that happens with most other shows. Maybe watch these shows, but only if you have the time for all of them. And if you haven’t started by now, don’t even try to get into it now.

CSI franchise overview: While this franchise is largely defunct at the moment, it did make a notable mark on the television world by lasting as long as it did until CBS ruined it by giving these shows bad timeslots and letting the flame flicker out until it died terribly. But three of the four shows remain quite popular in some ways to this day, all having lasted a long time.

Pros of the franchise: The plots seemed to work and weren’t always the same in some cases. Each of the characters were their own person and had enough interesting parts to them. There were recurring storylines that kept people into the show in great ways.

Cons of the franchise: The three big shows were effectively carbon copies of each other. Even the one that was different was widely ridiculed and poorly watched. The plots could be weak at times and very dark at other times. The main show had too much change in its cast, having three different leads over the course of one series with one leaving during the middle of a season.

Verdict: I think that this is worth watching, although some of them are better than others. These shows were not as connected to each other making them stand better solo, meaning you don't have to see all of the shows. Plus, the shows are often self contained enough at times that you don't have to worry about seeing all of this in the end.

I know that there are a whole lot more franchises to potentially review in this blog, but I won’t be doing that as I want to keep this blog post relatively short or as short as it can be. There are a whole lot more franchises out there in the world, but I figured that I’d just stick with these three. I’m hoping that I will have enough time to write what I need to for future posts.

Genre Analysis

There can be similar formulas when it comes to making a TV show of many kinds. You can often get the same type of show in the end, even if parts of it are always different. I thought that I would do a bit of an analysis on some of these shows in this blog post.

Work place comedy: One of the three most common types of comedies, all of the humor seems to relate to what comes on at the work place as most of the show is set there, even if parts of it are not seen in order to set up other plot points. The relationships with the co-workers are often friendships and often border romantic in some cases. It can run the risk of being predictable in some ways as you often see the characters briefly fired and then rehired in the same episode or shortly later. Romances are often taboo in some ways, but always allowed in the end. Many parts never change.

Family based comedy: Basically, what makes this typical plot of this one is that the show revolves around a family even if others might be seen in the cast at times. Often, the kids are in school, be it grade school or high school or even college. There are times that the family members are all adults, but this does not happen often in the show. Normally there is an antagonist relationship between at least two of the characters in the end, but this is not always the case. Often there are life lessons in some cases and the romances with the characters can last a while, but almost never last until the end of the show with some notable exceptions.

Friends based comedy: These shows are always about a group of friends that have known each other for some time at the start of the show with the possible exception of a new person at the start of the show who often stays for the whole show. Sometimes the cast changes, but it often doesn’t depending on how long the show lasts. The people might have married couples here and there, but what is often known is that romance is certain to happen between the friends on the show. Often there can be issues with some of the people on the show that can even last for a while, but they tend to come around at some point in the end.

Courtroom drama: There’s not too much to say about this outside of the obvious plot of these. There are always people seeking to find answers to legal questions and it can often be based on the crime and not on the characters themselves. This is not always the case, but is often the issue with it. There is not much else to say about it as some shows make it more likely that one side will always win and others will make it more widespread for some of these cases.

Medical drama: It is quite clear that the doctors are always the same and will treat the patients that show up in one episode or another. You would not see that much outside of the drama in some cases. One of the almost certain part of these shows are the doctors hooking up with each other that we see from time to time and it can be quite flawed making us wonder who is sleeping with who. But this can be quite interesting as it isn’t about seeking justice for people who were victims of crimes but about treating those who are injured, sick, or otherwise need help.

Crime or cop based drama: One of the most common and typical shows makes you see those on the show try to solve crimes, typically murders, but sometimes other ones instead. Who killed this person and why were they killed? That is what people need to find out. Often, you see the crimes solved on this show taking up the main focus and it isn’t always about the characters in the end.

Reality competition: Widely mocked by some and often ignored by many, there are devoted fans of these shows. Often accused of being rigged or otherwise fake in some way, they can’t due to the quiz bowl scandals that prevent such a thing from happening. There can be a sense of sameness on these shows as it can be part to tell some of the seasons apart from each other in the end. But they are always about some people trying to win a competition.

Supposed reality documentary: With no competition going on with these shows, you can know for sure that these are not real in any way as most of the drama is made up for entertainment purposes. They don’t even care who knows if the show is scripted or who cares. Some watch it as a result. Many of the previous section that I just mention make sure people know the differences. As a fan of Survivor, I would never compare it to The Real Housewives series even if both are said to be reality shows.

True crime show: Be it 48 Hours, Dateline, 20/20, or something else like it, you see people who talk about crimes in reality and how they were solved, if such a solution exists, or just about the crime. That is what often makes it annoying: not all of the cases shown have an ending or final result. I try to avoid them often unless they focus on kidnappings or missing person dramas as I just don’t really want to see some of what they do or otherwise cover in the end.

Soap opera: While some primetime versions of this exist, I’m talking about the daytime shows were there are so many crazy things happening, the show never really ends unless or until it does, and they often recast characters with other actors. Another thing notable is the number of deaths, including the onscreen deaths, that turn out to be fake in the end as people often come back from the dead for a whole assortment of various reasons.

Superhero shows: Not always common, these are often based off of comic books, but this is not always the case. These shows are perhaps the only shows more notorious than soap operas for dead people coming back in some way, as there is often a good explanation for it in the end that makes sense in the world of the show in the end. There is often a villain of the week, but this is not always the case as there can be a lot of different things going on in the show.

There’s not much else to say about these shows that hasn’t already been said so I will end this post here and let you go for today. I hope that you liked my thoughts on different genres that you often see on the shows of today, even if I could have included more.

Predicting the Next CW’s Final Season Shows: 2020 Version

In the first of any of these planned posts, I thought that I would do a prediction of which of the CW’s shows would be airing its final season after this season is over. The CW is getting to be predictable with which of their shows will be ending that unless it is a rookie show, it doesn’t end randomly without it getting a proper end of a final season. With most of their shows renewed already, I might as well go through all of them and predict which of them could end versus which of them will probably last at least beyond the 2020-2021 season and maybe longer.

Let’s quickly go through the criteria of what will fit and what will not. For one, this list will ignore the shows of Katy Keene and Stargirl, neither of which have been renewed and the latter has yet to air. I will also be ignoring all of the summer shows since there’s not much to know about them. The 100 will be airing its final season in the future so there’s no need to cover it. I will be factoring in a lot of what will be when they can get rid of a show too since a low episode count or season number will mean that they are probably not going anywhere even if they shouldn’t have lasted this long anyways.

All American- I give this a 20% chance of ending next season. It would probably last since they need to milk at least syndication out of this as they would with every show they don’t off in the first season. It will need a lot more episodes airing and seasons beyond just a third before the CW would get rid of it and take it off the network as a result.

Batwoman- I give this a 5% chance of ending next season. I mean, this is Arrowverse and they’d probably get rid of an older part of this franchise, the newest part, or nothing at all if they don’t want to. They need more of this show as they will be keeping it around as a result.

Black Lightning- I give this a 10% chance of ending next season. This may be a limited run series, but since it will be airing a fourth episode but still below the syndication threshold, it will probably last and it might not have a chance of ending soon since it is part of Arrowverse now.

Charmed- I give this a 3% chance of ending next season. Even if they cut the episode number short, this is very close to the right number of episodes that they need for it to last into syndication and the hatred of the fans of the original who haven’t bothered to give this show a chance seems to be the only thing that is negative against this. Even if that does harm the show’s future chances, it wouldn’t be ending that soon, although the fourth season could be the end of it.

Dynasty- I give this a 45% chance of ending next season. While not on the side where I think that it would be in danger of ending, it is a bit more worrisome than others might be. It would have enough episodes for the lower threshold of syndication, although you’d think that they’d want to milk out at least 100 episodes of it before showing it the door.

The Flash- I give this a 30% chance of ending next season. After The 100 ends, it will be the longest running of the CW’s current shows. That puts it in just a bit more danger than it should be, but I’d say that it probably isn’t going to end as it is still so popular and they’d probably end a different Arrowverse show before they end this one.

In the Dark- I give this a 25% chance of ending next season. It shouldn’t have gotten renewed for a second season, but it had a good deal that the CW had to keep its promise with in order to keep around for more seasons. Besides, it is unlikely for a lot of third season shows to end, even with one that would have such a low episode count like this one.

Legacies- I give this a 15% chance of ending next season. It is still relatively new and it has to make its mark, however small, on the network before it leaves the airwaves. I can’t imagine that it will end given the limited information that I know and remember about it.

Legends of Tomorrow- I give this a 60% chance of ending next season. While I said at one point that this would be the first of the Arrowverse shows to end, I do think that it is almost to the point where it has more than enough episodes to satisfy the syndication gods who control this. It might last compared to a different Arrowverse show, but might not if they’d pick this instead.

Nancy Drew- I give this a 1% chance of ending next season. I mean, they don’t get rid of sophomores on this network unless it is a summer show, but even then, it would be unlikely in some cases. This would have to be the least likely to end next season simply because of people not wanting to go against the protocol that they often do now on this network.

Riverdale- I give this a 70% chance of ending next season. Maybe they could make this work and last longer with the characters set to graduate, but then they should know that the show would just be a shadow of its former self if it does. They might think that it would be better to just end it sooner rather than later because of waning interest or just to make more room on the schedule.

Roswell, New Mexico- I give this a 13% chance of ending next season. It will probably last longer since it needs more episodes for syndication and it might need a lot of episodes in order for it to work. I would have to say that this isn’t in danger that much right now.

Supergirl- I give this a 75% chance of ending next season. Since Superman and Lois is another show that will be airing sometime next season, two shows focusing on Kryptonians are not what people would want at the same time. If they make the new show a prequel with a timeline not current with the main show, they might be able to get both to last for a while. If not, I imagine this would be a show that will bow out in order to make room for Superman and Lois to start.

Nothing at all- I give this option a 50% chance of happening. I’ll admit that this could be a possibility that none of the shows will be ending next season outside of possible freshman shows which are not covered in this post. It could happen if only because the renewals of the existing shows didn’t come with the announcement of a final season coming along with it. But I’d say that some shows are likely to end, even if they have been here for a while.

That’s about it for this post since I pretty much summed up everything that I thought might be relevant to it. In case you were paying attention, I think that only Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, and Supergirl are in danger of ending next season. They wouldn’t get rid of all three and I think that Supergirl is the more likely Arrowverse show to end. What will happen? Time will tell.

Predicting Sunday 10/9 Central on CBS: 2020 Edition

It has been a while since I’ve done a post like this. I haven’t done this every year since I just didn’t feel like it would work as a post and last year around this time, I had a limited number of posts that I could do at the time. Now I think that it is time to make one specific prediction regarding the TV schedule for next season. That’s this: which CBS show will get the least desirable timeslot in all of TV history? Well, I’m going to offer my five predictions in order of most likely to least likely. I don’t think that it will happen if the choice is not on the list. But that doesn’t mean that it won’t. Enjoy this post.

NCIS: New Orleans: To me, the most likely thing that will happen is that the show currently in this slot will get renewed and continue to last in this slot next season. It might not be what happens even if the show continues to last, but I thought that I would mention it as a possibility.

NCIS: Los Angeles: It did air briefly in this timeslot last season and could be bumped back as is often the practice when the next season starts. CBS has done that so many times that it is starting to become a routine. Will it happen? Well, if both this show and the previous show get renewed, it wouldn’t. If only this show gets renewed, then maybe it will.

Evil: I’m not sure that I have much reason why this would be put here other than the fact that this is a limited run series and they’ve put shows by these people on Sundays before. I don’t know if such a thing is certain or even likely, but I would say it is more likely than not.

Bull: This show might not even last until the next season. If it does, it might be the next victim of a show leaving somewhere to die. I mean, shows are more likely to last on Fridays on CBS when they are moved than when they are put on this timeslot. I think that sometimes shows that become scapegoats wind up here which is why I think it will end up here.

Something new: I wouldn’t know the name of what they would put on this slot if it would be a brand new show entirely. It is possible, although I can’t remember the last time that they did put something new in this timeslot. I can’t think of any other shows that might be put here.

Well, that’s about it for this post. I can’t think of what else there is to say outside of including a closing of some sort or another. We’ll see if any of these predictions will be right since I was wrong entirely about the predictions the last time it happened. Maybe this time, one of them will be right.

Wednesdays in Primetime Version 6

Wednesdays can be good with television. This is the day of the week I’m most likely to miss shows on a regular basis whenever church gets in the way. There are some interesting shows and it has some of my favorite shows. ABC shows comedies which are currently Modern Family, The Goldbergs, Schooled, and Single Parents before ending with Stumptown. NBC shows the Chicago franchise all night. The CW shows Riverdale and Nancy Drew. CBS shows Survivor, SEAL Team, and S.W.A.T. FOX is airing The Masked Singer and Lego Masters.

The Goldbergs: Status- Currently on ABC at 8/7 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- The first time was because I was unable to stop recording a tape after a different program stopped airing which recorded a whole episode of this show. I watched more episodes because I thought that it might be good after watching that particular episode. Noteworthiness- It is somewhat based off of true events. Description- It is about a man’s life growing up in the eighties when he was a kid and is based on details that actually happened (although I’m not sure just how much). Pros- It can be pretty good and funny sometimes. Cons- It doesn’t make a lot of sense sometimes and can be a bit odd. Plus, there are normally always errors when setting things in the past. Note to Parents- This is borderline over what is and isn’t acceptable so I suggest you watch for yourself to make your own decision. This is a whole lot better in terms of content than you see in most shows nowadays. Recommendation- It is a good show to watch. My Viewing Habits- While I like this show, I normally don’t watch it since too many other things I like air at the same time. I might see more in syndication in the future, when Survivor is on break, or various other reasons that I would like to watch it. Prediction- It will keep lasting like it has already. Reception: mostly mixed. Grade: B-.

Survivor: Status- Currently on CBS at 8/7 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I think that other people in my family liked it and I found it interesting as well and started watching. Noteworthiness- It shows two seasons a year; one in the fall and another in the spring. It is an adaptation of a Swedish reality show, Expedition Robertson. It is considered the first American reality show and is the longest running one on CBS if you don’t count a news related show like 60 Minutes instead which is not a competition show like this is. Description- Contestants compete against each other to see who will survive 39 days in a wilderness place and win a million dollars. Every week, a contestant is voted out and the last few people face a jury of previously voted out people who vote one of them the winner. Pros- There is a different cast each season so if you don’t like one season, you can stop watching and watch the next season. The contestants are interesting often. Drama is always present. Due to the competition nature of the show, it can’t legally be scripted like a lot of reality shows are. Something new always happens in each season. Cons- The people that you hate can make it far while the people that you like get eliminated first. The basic plots of some seasons can be similar to each other. They like to recycle ideas, locations, and challenges. It can be hard to find a normal season anymore. A lot of controversies have arisen on the show. This show has indirectly made every other reality show. They have a tendency to keep having returning players each season which can be off-putting to those that aren’t already fans of the show. Note to Parents- I watched this as a child, but I’m not sure if your kids should. It is better than the typical show in terms of content that might be deemed inappropriate for kids. Some of it is better at times although it has rarely aired with a content adversary warning. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. I like it and think that you should watch it, but not everyone has my opinion of this show. My Viewing Habits- I came in during the second season and have mostly watched since. Now that I have a blog about it, I will probably watch every new episode until the show ends, if it does. Prediction- It will last as long as it has the same host, enough viewers, and enough money. If the host changes, it might leave the airwaves shortly after although another network like the CW might still have faith in it which could lead to a dramatic retooling of the show plus a fight with any other networks that might want it (if any do). Besides, this is the type of show that can be off the air for an extended amount of time and suddenly return with new people. Reception: good, although seasons vary. Grade: A-. I have a blog about the show, the link is here:

Chicago Med: Status- Currently on NBC at 8/7 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- At the time, the only show that I watched in this timeslot, Notorious, had its episode order cut so I started looking for a replacement in the timeslot. I chose this show due to its connection to a show that I watched and its fairly new time on the air. Noteworthiness- This is the third installment of the Chicago franchise that has different groups that focus on different things. Description- Basically, this is a medical drama. Notable People- Dick Wolf, who created the Law and Order franchise, also helped create this show. Pros- One of the characters has autism, so that makes the show more interesting. There’s certainly nothing major wrong with it. Cons- It doesn’t seem to be that notable in any way. It seems like just an ordinary show with nothing major ever happening in it. They could make it more interesting than it is, such as caring about the characters more. Note to Parents- Mostly, it’s just the medical stuff that one would see that I would recommend against letting young kids see. Recommendation- I’m not sure what to say here. It is good enough for me to watch, but not really that outstanding a show. I would suggest watching it only if you don’t care that much about anything else. My Viewing Habits- I started watching into what I believe its second season was. I have since given it up now that it competes with Survivor and have not seen it since. I might return to it someday, but have no plans to do so right now. Prediction- I think that this will last for a while still. Reception: mixed or average. Grade: B-.

Riverdale: Status- Currently on the CW at 8/7 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- From this point forward, I’ll try to watch any new CW show if possible. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by the Archie comic book series. Description- Starting out, it is about a murder at a high school and various other dark plots. At the moment, it is best described as the noir genre. It is hard to tell what the basic plot of it is. Notable People- Cole Sprose, who was one of the leads on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, is a character who also narrates the show. Pros- There is enough potential in it that it might be good. It seems better than just another dumb high school show. Cons- This seems stereotypical in a way. This probably has all the problems you could expect from a CW show. Some of it is unrealistic and doesn’t make sense. Note to Parents- There are enough bad things in here that children shouldn’t be watching. Recommendation- I’d put this at a toss-up. My Viewing Habits- I started watching from the first episode. I have given it up at times for various reasons, but am currently watching it online and hope to keep up with it. Prediction- It is renewed for another season. I don’t know how much longer it will last beyond that just yet. I would not think that it is in danger of ending just yet. Reception: generally positive. Grade: C+.

Schooled: Status- Currently on ABC at 8:30/7:30 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I wanted to watch a new midseason ABC show when it premiered and figured that this was the only one that might work out. Noteworthiness- This show is a spin-off of The Goldbergs. It has the same creator too. It was once rejected as a pilot, but the rejected pilot aired as an episode of The Goldbergs and it was the picked up as a series later. Description- Some of the characters from The Goldbergs, most of them from the school based part of the show, are featured upon in the 90s instead of the 80s. Notable People- Brett Dier who also starred in Jane the Virgin, stars on this show as well. Pros- I think that it works well as a show and comedy. Everything that you like about the original show is here too. Cons- It can have some of the main flaws of The Goldbergs as well and might not work as well on its own, that is, if you are not also a fan of The Goldbergs. Note to Parents- This is largely okay based on what I’ve seen thus far, which wasn’t much. There are some of the usual issues, but not too much. Recommendation- I would recommend watching this if you don’t have anything else going on at the time since it would work well in good ways. My Viewing Habits- I watched a small part of the first season and one episode of the second season. I don’t yet know if I will keep up with it too much unless I can see it in syndication at some point. Prediction- This will have at least 100 episodes of the show at some point. Reception: somewhat positive. Grade: B+. New review

Modern Family: Status- Currently on ABC at 9/8 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- Free time at the time and general interest in the show. Noteworthiness- It is a fake documentary meaning it presents itself as a reality show, when it isn’t (although certain “reality” shows are that way). It is a popular show winning awards as is the longest running comedy on this network. Description- A look at the people an extended family of “normal” ones and not so normal ones. Notable People- Ed O’Neil from Married with Children is on this show. Pros- This is a funny comedy that attracts all different people like the families that are like this. There are good episodes a lot of the time. Cons- The episodes do not always have enough material in them and move by too quickly. Inappropriate material shows up often. They tend to ignore some of the filming aspects of the show opening it up to serious plot holes such as characters wanting proof of something, only to not consider the people that are filming them. Note to Parents- This is borderline like a bunch of other shows like it. Recommendation- Watch this show if you like it. You probably will. My Viewing Habits- I haven’t always been good with watching the new episodes as they aired and saw far more of it in syndication than live for the first time. But, I tend to watch any and all of the new episodes live when I can, although I miss a lot during December and Lent since I’m not always back home in time at the start of the episode. Prediction- It is airing its final season right now and will be ending soon. Reception: mostly positive. Grade: A.

Lego Masters: Status- Currently on FOX at 9/8 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I try to watch every new FOX show when I can. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from a British reality show of the same name. Description- A reality show, duos compete in various Lego themed challenges to see who will be the Lego master. Notable People- It is hosted by Will Arnet who was on Arrested Development and The Millers. Pros- It seemed pretty good in some ways as the competition works and it doesn’t have much drama to it that seems manufactured in other reality shows. Cons- It isn’t as interesting as it could be. Note to Parents- The current season has gay contestants, I think. Other than that, I haven’t seen enough to know if this is bad for kids and don’t think that it should be. Recommendation- I think that this is good enough to watch. My Viewing Habits- I have seen the third episode and don’t yet know if I will be able to see it again, although I want to. Prediction- I have no idea of this will last or not. The thought of grown-ups playing with Legos is a bit of a stretch, even if not entirely something you would not expect from reality depending on who you know. I’d say that this should probably last more than one season, but it won’t. Reception: good. Grade: B. New review

SEAL Team: Status- Currently on CBS at 9/8 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I normally always watch a new CBS show at least once. Description- This show is about those in a team of Navy seals and their adventures. Notable People- David Boreanaz from Bones is the star of this show. Pros- It makes the military look good and delves into some of the issues they might face. Cons- It can be hard to follow and we don’t have as much focus on the characters as one would like. Note to Parents- This could be a whole lot worse than it is in terms of content. Still, I wouldn’t let those not in high school watch this. Recommendation- This seems pretty good for the most part. I’d say that it would depend on what you like or already watch. My Viewing Habits- I started at the beginning and then there was a time when I gave it up due to recording issues and lack of interest. After work commitments conflicted with shows on Wednesdays, even when I could get back into this later, I decided that I no longer cared about it. Whether or not I’ll see it in the end is currently unknown. Prediction- This is certain to get renewed after this current season ends. After that, we’ll have to wait and see. Reception: mixed. Grade: C+.

Nancy Drew: Status- Currently on the CW at 9/8 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I thought that it could be interesting. Noteworthiness- This is based on the popular kid’s book series based on the popular character. Description- Now a young adult, the sleuth Nancy Drew is working to solve a cold case murder and a newer murder. Notable People- This stars Riley Smith from Frequency, Life Sentence, and Proven Innocent. Pros- The show is interesting and isn’t just the same thing week after week like you often find in most mystery shows. Cons- It runs into usual problems like sex or other things that probably don’t need to be there. Note to Parents- There is enough in here that kids shouldn’t see, but teens could be okay with. Recommendation- I think that this is good to keep up with and say that you should watch. My Viewing Habits- I joined this into its first season and plan to watch what I can of this as much as I can. Prediction- It has been renewed for a second season and given the CW’s current renewal threads, it will be here for a while. Reception: mixed or average. Grade: A. New review

Single Parents: Status- Currently on ABC at 9:30/8:30 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- It worked out for me to watch it so I did. Description- We see different parents who aren’t in a relationship form a bond with each other. Notable People- This has Taran Killam formerly of Saturday Night Live. It also stars Brad Garrett from Everybody Loves Raymond and ‘Til Death. Pros- There are some bright spots in here. Cons- The plot largely doesn’t work as a whole. It isn’t funny and one doesn’t want to root for these characters. Note to Parents- There were enough issues in this that I think you shouldn’t let kids watch this. Recommendation- Don’t bother with this. My Viewing Habits- I watched the first episode and have never seen it again outside of bits and pieces from other episodes. Prediction- This is likely to stick around for now. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: D. New review

Stumptown: Status- Currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I had a dream about it so I watched it once it worked out. Noteworthiness- It is adapted from a comic book series. Description- A female PI solves cases. Notable People- Colbie Smolders from How I Met Your Mother and the MCU is the lead of this show. Jack Johnson from New Girl is on this as well. Pros- It isn’t too bad as it seems done well enough. Cons- It didn’t seem to have much to it. Note to Parents- This has the usual problems so don’t let too young people watch this. Recommendation- It wasn’t bad, just not worth staying into. My Viewing Habits- I only watched one episode and have no interest in staying into this. Prediction- This looks likely to fail. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: D. New review

S.W.A.T.: Status- Currently on CBS at 10/9 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I always watch a CBS show once under most circumstances. Noteworthiness- This is a remake of a show with the same name. Description- This is about a team of people who try to help others in different situations. Just insert standard CBS drama into the plot line here. Notable People- It stars Shamar Moore, who used to star in Criminal Minds. Pros- The show works and has interesting plots. Cons- It doesn’t seem that different from other shows. Note to Parents- This has the standard amount of material that you would find wrong with a show. It has more violence in it than sex, but there is a bit of the second one on occasion. Still, there are worse shows in terms of violent content. Recommendation- I think that it is good to watch, unless you have better things to do with life. My Viewing Habits- I missed the first episode due to issues with the recording of it, but stayed with it from the second one onward. Prediction- This seems likely to last. Reception: mixed. Grade: A.

Tuesdays in Primetime Version 6

Tuesdays are a competitive night on television. It is also when some of television’s most popular shows are on. The only problem is that the shows are so good, you won’t be able to watch them all. A lot of comedies are on tonight on various networks. What all is good? Well, let’s delve into it.

The Flash: Status- Currently on the CW at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- General interest in shows like it. Noteworthiness- This is set in the same world as Arrow. This show is based off of a comic book series. Description- This show is about a person who is struck by lightning and gains the power of super speed. Pros- There’s a lot in here that keeps you coming back. The plots normally always work. Cons- It may seem similar to other superhero TV shows. It is too connected to Arrow and other shows in the universe which can cause problems if you don’t watch all the other shows. It might seem too much like a kid’s show at times due to it teaching lessons. Note to Parents- This show is targeted to teens and is safe for them to watch, although enough of it is bad for younger audiences. Recommendation- I think that this is probably worth watching all the time. Just don’t tune in if you can’t keep up with all of the other Arrowverse shows. My Viewing Habits- I have been a fan of this since the first episode although I have missed a lot of it as it went on for various reasons. Prediction- This will probably last a good while. I haven’t heard problems with ratings so I think it will do well. Reception: positive. Grade: A-.

NCIS: Status- Currently on CBS at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- My brother and the rest of my family liked the show and I thought it was good enough to watch all the time. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of the show JAG. At least at the beginning, the cases on the show were inspired by real cases. I don’t know if they still are. It has two spin-offs. It is the longest running of the dramas that are still on the air on CBS with new episodes. Description- A team of federal agents solves murders of marines and navy members as well as other crimes relating to them and other people. Notable People- Wilmer Valderama from That 70’s Show, Awake, and Minority Report, is a character on this show. Pros- It stays fresh despite its long time on the air. The humor is quite interesting. Cons- It is running out of steam. It has lost a lot of its cast as it has gone along. Note to Parents- I’ve noticed enough bad stuff in here, but mostly related to violence more than anything else. I watched this as a teen and don’t see why others can’t too. Recommendation- It is one of my favorite shows. I say watch it if you have the chance too and aren’t already. My Viewing Habits- I got into this late originally but have since gotten older seasons on DVD and have seen most episodes by now. Prediction- It will last a while more, but could be in danger of ending. Either it will end in a season or one of its spin-offs will. I would think that a spin-off would end first. Reception: very positive. Grade: A+.

Ellen’s Game of Games: Status- Currently on Tuesdays at 8/7 Central on NBC. Why I’ve seen it- I was interested enough in it and it worked out for me to watch it. Noteworthiness- This is a spin-off of The Ellen DeGeneres Show using games that often appear on the show. Description- Ellen DeGeneres hosts a show where people have to do random games to move on and get a lot of money potentially. Notable People- Ellen DeGeneres hosts a talk show and used to do a sitcom. Pros- It is funny and entertaining. It is more simple and not something that you have to know a lot about things in order to do well all the time on it. Cons- It seems odd in some places and I don’t know if it is fair entirely. Ellen’s tendency to ask trick questions can make you wonder if everything is on the up and up. Note to Parents- This might not have too much wrong with it, if it has anything wrong with it at all. Any problems would be in words spoken and not stuff shown on TV. Recommendation- This is probably worth watching if you aren’t into anything else at the time or can’t see shows on a regular basis. My Viewing Habits- I watch this a bit sporadically due to other commitments, time constraints, and lack of good reception on the network in question. Prediction- This will probably last a while unless a lawsuit kills it. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B-. New review

The Resident: Status- Currently on FOX at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watched this for my Good Wife blog and to fulfill my promise to watch a midseason replacement on FOX the season that it started. Description- This is a medical drama that features different doctors, some new, and there are various problems at the hospital at times. It seems a rather complicated plot that is hard to sum up easily. It should make more sense as it goes along. Notable People- This has Matt Czuchry who used to star in The Good Wife and Gilmore girls. It also has Emily VanCamp who starred on Brothers and Sisters as well as Revenge. Pros- It points out the flaws that can happen in a hospital, but does it in a good way. It can seem more humanizing than most medical dramas that I’ve seen in the past. Cons- It seems similar to House. The lead can be strange and arrogant. It is often too focused on sex at times. There are some medical stuff that you don’t know why it is there. Note to Parents- It airs with a content adversary warning in some episodes so that’s all you really need to know about it. Recommendation- I’d say that this is good to stay into if you want to. My Viewing Habits- I plan to watch this until the very end. Whether I’ll be able to see every episode or not remains to be seen. Prediction- This should last until it hits syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B.

FBI: Status- Currently on CBS at 9/8 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- It aired on CBS. Description- Needless to say, this is about the FBI and it features various threats that the team has to face. Notable People- This stars Missy Peregrym, who used to star in Rookie Blue. Dick Wolf, who created the Law and Order franchise and the Chicago franchise, also did this as well. Pros- It seems better than most shows are nowadays. Cons- Its main problem is being too generic. Note to Parents- This has the same sort of problems that you would often see on shows nowadays, but it is not nearly as bad as what you might see on other shows. Recommendation- I would say that one should watch this if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I have watched this since the first episode, but have not seen every episode. Prediction- This will last until syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B. New review

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Status- Currently on Tuesdays at 9/8 Central on the CW. Why I’ve seen it- I had an obligation to watch one midseason replacement on the CW at the time plus a general interest in the show. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from The Flash and Arrow TV shows using characters from them and from DC comics. It is set in the general Arrowverse. Description- A time master gets a team of people from our time to save the world from a threat in the future. The plot has evolved beyond that, although the idea of time travelling superheroes is still there. Pros- The plot is good and gripping. It is very interesting and keeps you coming back for more. Cons- Its connections with other shows are quite a problem. It drags on too long. It recycles too much from Arrowverse without bringing too much on its own without it. Like all shows in this franchise, it is hard to understand it without watching the other shows as well. Note to Parents- This is probably the standard amount of objectionable material, although it doesn’t seem as focused on sex as some shows. There’s a lot of fighting in it like there are in all of the Arrowverse shows. Recommendation- You should watch this if you don’t already have more important commitments. My Viewing Habits- I have watched this since the first episode, although I might have missed a few. Prediction- This will probably last for a while, if all goes well. The only thing against it is whether there are simply too many shows for the network, but I see it lasting a long time. It might be in more danger of ending in the future than other shows in the franchise, but we’ll see. Reception: mixed to positive. Grade: A.

Black-ish: Status- Currently on ABC at 9:30/8:30 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I had time the one time I tuned in. Noteworthiness- This is based on a true story or might have been at one point in time when it first started out. Description- This sitcom is about a black family. Pros- It is popular with critics. Cons- I thought that this show was terrible. I didn’t find any of it funny nor did I understand the purpose that it had. Note to Parents- Having only seen one episode, I don’t know what to put here. It might be okay for kids, but I really don’t know for sure what to tell people. Recommendation- I wouldn’t watch it, but that’s just me. My Viewing Habits- I don’t watch it. I only saw it once then had no interest in watching it again since it just didn’t click with me. Prediction- This will keep lasting longer. Reception: positive. Grade: D.

New Amsterdam: Status- Currently on NBC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I forget why, but I think that I wanted to see it and a new fall show on NBC at the time. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by a true story, based off of a book that a doctor wrote about patients. Description- This is more or less a typical medical drama. Notable People- Ryan Eggold, who used to star in The Blacklist and The Blacklist: Redemption, is on this show. Pros- The main character is wonderful and you don’t see hook-ups like you normally would on most shows like this. Cons- It is hard to see what is different between it and other shows like it. Note to Parents- I think that this has always been TV-14 so it might not be a show that preteens and younger should watch. Recommendation- I think that one should watch it if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I got into this a bit late, despite wanting to see it since the beginning. I have only seen the first episode of season 2 and haven’t watched past it thus far due to constant issues with this channel’s reception where I live. Prediction- It has been renewed for quite a lot of seasons at once. If the ratings keep up, it will last longer than that as well, but we’ll have to wait and see just how long it lasts. Reception: mixed to negative. Grade: B. New review

For Life: Status- Currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- The show looked like it could be interesting. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by a true story of a man named Walter Isaacson Jr. Description- A wrongly convicted man who is serving life in prison is also a lawyer working to help others and clear his own name. Pros- It is quite interesting and worth keeping up with. Cons- The show doesn’t seem focused in some places like you would want it to be. Note to Parents- This is not safe for the younger kids, but it would work for teens and older. Recommendation- I think that this is worth seeing on a regular basis. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the first episode and plan to keep watching it until the end. Prediction- This doesn’t seem likely to last at the moment due to low ratings. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: B+. New review

FBI: Most Wanted: Status- Currently on CBS at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watch the original so I figured that I might as well watch this too. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of FBI and by the same creator as it. Description- An FBI team tries to find the most wanted criminals. Notable People- Julian McMahon from the original Charmed plays the main character. Pros- It seems like a good show that you would like and expect. Cons- I say that the problems with it are it seeming generic and like a carbon copy of the original with new characters instead of something new we could get from it. Note to Parents- This probably doesn’t have as much of an issue as other shows do, but I would say that it might not be safe for the younger ones, but is probably fine for older kids. Recommendation- I think that one should watch this and one doesn’t yet have to see both this and the original in order to understand it. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the beginning and plan to watch it until the end. Prediction- This will last a while. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B. New review
