Christmas Commercials 2018

This post is coming sooner than most of us would expect. I should be doing a post on the midseason shows that I’ve seen, especially since some of them are already gone for the season. Hopefully, that will be the next post of this blog. But I need to get to posting about this while I have the chance to do it on this day today. But first, let’s get to more important things to say.

I need to explain some of the important things to note about this annual post. For one, something that I have noticed is something that I call duel commercials. This is when a Christmas commercial mixes with some other type of commercial like Black Friday or something largely unrelated to Christmas. But I will still count some of these as whole commercials if I want to.

Also note that when I mention the Christmas overrun number that it could change in next year’s post if I get more caught up on commercials that I wasn’t caught up on before. I don’t think that you’ll have to worry too much about this as the change from the number that I mentioned last year versus what I had this year wasn’t much, but was noticeable if you kept track of that.

Yet another thing to note is the time frame of when commercials aired. There is a difference this year and last year in terms of what was published and changed. Normally, I only go up to the Sunday after Thanksgiving since that’s when Advent begins. These past two years, I went with when December had started which was long after the Sunday after Thanksgiving had happened. This was simply because Advent had not started yet. Now, let’s get to what you normally see.

In 2012, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 0. The official count before Halloween was 27. The official count before the Sunday after Thanksgiving was 200. In 2013, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 5. The official count before Halloween was 30. The official count before the Sunday after Thanksgiving was 600. In 2014, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 3. The official count before Halloween was 26. The official count before the Sunday after Thanksgiving was 700. In 2015, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 0. The official count before Halloween was 13. The official count before the Sunday after Thanksgiving was 530.

In 2016, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 0. The official count before Halloween was 45. The official count before the Sunday after Thanksgiving was 386. In 2017, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 0. The official count before Halloween was 78. The official count before December started was 767.

Christmas overrun for 2014-2015 is 28 commercials. Christmas overrun for 2015-2016 is 14 commercials. Christmas overrun for 2016-2017 is 55 commercials. Christmas overrun for 2017-2018 is 41 commercials. Christmas overrun means that after Christmas and in a bit of January, you will see Christmas commercials of some type. I’m keeping track of them, although they will always be separate from the main list.

In 2018, the official count of Christmas commercials before October was 0. The official count before Halloween was 13. The official count before December started was 567. These are all very low and I do know that this is because of all of the motherfucking political commercials. I was honestly so glad that these had started that I might have actually liked them for a change.

Christmas overrun for 2018-2019 is 32 commercials. This is not the highest or the lowest, but seems to be somewhere in the middle of the road with what has gone on with this. It might be hard to keep track of what all has happened with such things and why from year to year.

That’s about it for this post. I have enough cheats to update this blog for future months outside of the month of April so I won’t know for sure when you’ll see me next, but then I’ll know which random dates I’ll be back for future posts for a good, long while. I want to get back to weekly updates, but have no idea yet when it will happen. To date, the only day of the week that I feel that I could do this on right now is Tuesdays. I’ll let you know then if I’ll do it then or not if it randomly happens then.
