Midseason Shows 2019

It is about time that I finally get to reviews of midseason shows this year. A lot of them are not even on the air anymore (at least this season) due to the lateness that this has appeared at. So I’m doing this and any other show that might fit into the midseason schedule that is not in this post might be in the review of summer shows, even if they start in April or later.

Fam: Show Description- Simply put, this is another in a long line of sitcoms about families. Behind the Scenes- This show replaces Murphy Brown. It is unknown if that other show will be back yet. This stars Nina Dobrev, who used to star on The Vampire Diaries. My Thoughts- Too much of it was predictable and did not have much that separated it from other shows like it. It wasn’t really funny and some of the acting seemed bad. At least it contained someone trying to be part of a family. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I don’t think that this will last. We’ll see if I’m right or not. Where to Find- Not currently on the schedule

Roswell, New Mexico: Show Description- While I’ve seen a lot of the show, I don’t know how to say what it is about. I know that it involves aliens in some way and other mysteries. Behind the Scenes- This is a remake of a show of the same name. It replaced Legends of Tomorrow for a while. My Thoughts- While it can seem boring at times, the show has interesting dynamics. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- With the CW having already renewed a bunch of shows that weren’t this one early into its tenure on television, I don’t see much of a long term future for it. Where to Find- On the CW at 9/8 Central on Tuesday

The Passage: Show Description- People need a girl in order to stop an outbreak of zombie like conditions from happening. But a man seeks to protect her at all costs. Behind the Scenes- This is based off of a series of books. My Thoughts- I love the badass nature of the main guy. The plot is simple enough for all to get. I will say that it could be more interesting, though, as parts of it don’t seem to go anywhere. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I don’t think that it will last, although it might. Where to Find- Not currently on the schedule

The World’s Best: Show Description- Various people or groups of people compete to see who is the best among them. Behind the Scenes- It is hosted by James Corden who also hosts The Late Late Show. There are tons of famous judges, but it would take too long to get into all of them. It aired during the hiatus of Survivor and SEAL Team. My Thoughts- If you typically like talent shows like America’s Got Talent, then you would like this as well. I, personally, don’t care much for it. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This probably won’t last. Where to Find- Not currently on the schedule

Proven Innocent: Show Description- A woman survived the horrors of being falsely imprisoned for a crime and is now a lawyer seeking to help the wrongfully convicted. Behind the Scenes- Kelsey Grammar of Cheers, Frasier, Hank, and Back to You is a cast member. Riley Smith of Life Sentence and Frequency is also a cast member. My Thoughts- I’ll admit that it doesn’t seem like it has the most original plot. But I do think that this is well written. I give it four out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This probably will not last. Where to Find- On FOX at 9/8 Central on Fridays

The Enemy Within: Show Description- A woman is forced to betray her country in order to save her kid from dying. She then works with the government to help reveal and weed out other traitors. Behind the Scenes- Jennifer Carpenter from the Limitless TV show is the main character. My Thoughts- While it can have a sense of sameness to it, I think that it is quite a good show in the end. I give it four out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This probably won’t last, but maybe could. I wouldn’t count on it, though. Where to Find- On NBC at 10/9 Central on Mondays

The Kids Are Alright: Show Description- This is another one of those sitcoms about a family. Behind the Scenes- This isn’t actually a midseason show, but I am putting this here in this review since I hadn’t seen it earlier. My Thoughts- While it seems a bit generic, I think that it is good enough to watch if you don’t have any other commitments at the time. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I think that this is doing well. Where to Find- On ABC at 8:30/7:30 Central on Tuesdays

Mental Samurai: Show Description- Contestants compete on a course for the mind as it is described and they have to answer enough questions (all of them right) to become a mental samurai and win a lot of money as a result. Behind the Scenes- Rob Lowe, who has been on Parks and Recreation, The Grinder, and Code Black, is the host of the show. My Thoughts- I’ll admit that it can be fun to watch, but it does not have any real interesting things happening and can seem unfair that you have to answer a dozen questions all right just to get money. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I have no idea if this will last or not. Where to Find- On FOX at 9/8 Central on Tuesdays

In the Dark: Show Description- A blind woman deals with various struggles in life such as the death of a man who was close to her. Behind the Scenes- It replaces Legacies, only that show will return later. My Thoughts- While I do want to like the focus given on a minority character, I do not think that there’s enough in the show for it to work as far too much of it was just too weird. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This won’t last. Where to Find- On the CW at 9/8 Central on Thursdays

The Code: Show Description- This seems to be a military drama based on lawyers solving crimes. Behind the Scenes- It temporarily replaces Magnum P.I., only that show will be back in the future. My Thoughts- I like this show and think that it works. I only worry that they won’t make it much different than a lot of the other shows that are on like it. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I have no idea right now if it will last, but would think that it probably won’t given the history of shows like it. Where to Find- On CBS at 9/8 Central on Mondays

Schooled: Show Description- A spin-off of The Goldbergs, some of the characters, most of them from the school based part of the show, are featured upon in the 90s instead of the 80s. Behind the Scenes- As stated already, this show is a spin-off of The Goldbergs. It has the same creator too. It also stars Brett Dier who has also starred in Jane the Virgin. My Thoughts- I think that it works well as a show and comedy. It can have some of the main flaws of The Goldbergs as well and might not work as well on its own, that is, if you are not also a fan of The Goldbergs. Still, everything that you like about the original show is here too. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This should last for a while or at least into next season. Where to Find- On ABC at 8:30/7:30 Central on Wednesdays

Million Dollar Mile: Show Description- Contestants compete on an obstacle course for money while they try to avoid being caught by a well trained chaser. Behind the Scenes- It briefly replaced Criminal Minds before being replaced by The Amazing Race. My Thoughts- The show doesn’t have much to it. It is not something that people who don’t like sports would be into. But it does work and seem fair. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- With it having already been moved from its original timeslot to Saturdays, this is as good as dead so enjoy what’s left of it if you’re a fan. Where to Find- Will be on CBS at 8/7 Central on Saturdays
