Tuesdays in Primetime Version 6

Tuesdays are a competitive night on television. It is also when some of television’s most popular shows are on. The only problem is that the shows are so good, you won’t be able to watch them all. A lot of comedies are on tonight on various networks. What all is good? Well, let’s delve into it.

The Flash: Status- Currently on the CW at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- General interest in shows like it. Noteworthiness- This is set in the same world as Arrow. This show is based off of a comic book series. Description- This show is about a person who is struck by lightning and gains the power of super speed. Pros- There’s a lot in here that keeps you coming back. The plots normally always work. Cons- It may seem similar to other superhero TV shows. It is too connected to Arrow and other shows in the universe which can cause problems if you don’t watch all the other shows. It might seem too much like a kid’s show at times due to it teaching lessons. Note to Parents- This show is targeted to teens and is safe for them to watch, although enough of it is bad for younger audiences. Recommendation- I think that this is probably worth watching all the time. Just don’t tune in if you can’t keep up with all of the other Arrowverse shows. My Viewing Habits- I have been a fan of this since the first episode although I have missed a lot of it as it went on for various reasons. Prediction- This will probably last a good while. I haven’t heard problems with ratings so I think it will do well. Reception: positive. Grade: A-.

NCIS: Status- Currently on CBS at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- My brother and the rest of my family liked the show and I thought it was good enough to watch all the time. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of the show JAG. At least at the beginning, the cases on the show were inspired by real cases. I don’t know if they still are. It has two spin-offs. It is the longest running of the dramas that are still on the air on CBS with new episodes. Description- A team of federal agents solves murders of marines and navy members as well as other crimes relating to them and other people. Notable People- Wilmer Valderama from That 70’s Show, Awake, and Minority Report, is a character on this show. Pros- It stays fresh despite its long time on the air. The humor is quite interesting. Cons- It is running out of steam. It has lost a lot of its cast as it has gone along. Note to Parents- I’ve noticed enough bad stuff in here, but mostly related to violence more than anything else. I watched this as a teen and don’t see why others can’t too. Recommendation- It is one of my favorite shows. I say watch it if you have the chance too and aren’t already. My Viewing Habits- I got into this late originally but have since gotten older seasons on DVD and have seen most episodes by now. Prediction- It will last a while more, but could be in danger of ending. Either it will end in a season or one of its spin-offs will. I would think that a spin-off would end first. Reception: very positive. Grade: A+.

Ellen’s Game of Games: Status- Currently on Tuesdays at 8/7 Central on NBC. Why I’ve seen it- I was interested enough in it and it worked out for me to watch it. Noteworthiness- This is a spin-off of The Ellen DeGeneres Show using games that often appear on the show. Description- Ellen DeGeneres hosts a show where people have to do random games to move on and get a lot of money potentially. Notable People- Ellen DeGeneres hosts a talk show and used to do a sitcom. Pros- It is funny and entertaining. It is more simple and not something that you have to know a lot about things in order to do well all the time on it. Cons- It seems odd in some places and I don’t know if it is fair entirely. Ellen’s tendency to ask trick questions can make you wonder if everything is on the up and up. Note to Parents- This might not have too much wrong with it, if it has anything wrong with it at all. Any problems would be in words spoken and not stuff shown on TV. Recommendation- This is probably worth watching if you aren’t into anything else at the time or can’t see shows on a regular basis. My Viewing Habits- I watch this a bit sporadically due to other commitments, time constraints, and lack of good reception on the network in question. Prediction- This will probably last a while unless a lawsuit kills it. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B-. New review

The Resident: Status- Currently on FOX at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watched this for my Good Wife blog and to fulfill my promise to watch a midseason replacement on FOX the season that it started. Description- This is a medical drama that features different doctors, some new, and there are various problems at the hospital at times. It seems a rather complicated plot that is hard to sum up easily. It should make more sense as it goes along. Notable People- This has Matt Czuchry who used to star in The Good Wife and Gilmore girls. It also has Emily VanCamp who starred on Brothers and Sisters as well as Revenge. Pros- It points out the flaws that can happen in a hospital, but does it in a good way. It can seem more humanizing than most medical dramas that I’ve seen in the past. Cons- It seems similar to House. The lead can be strange and arrogant. It is often too focused on sex at times. There are some medical stuff that you don’t know why it is there. Note to Parents- It airs with a content adversary warning in some episodes so that’s all you really need to know about it. Recommendation- I’d say that this is good to stay into if you want to. My Viewing Habits- I plan to watch this until the very end. Whether I’ll be able to see every episode or not remains to be seen. Prediction- This should last until it hits syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B.

FBI: Status- Currently on CBS at 9/8 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- It aired on CBS. Description- Needless to say, this is about the FBI and it features various threats that the team has to face. Notable People- This stars Missy Peregrym, who used to star in Rookie Blue. Dick Wolf, who created the Law and Order franchise and the Chicago franchise, also did this as well. Pros- It seems better than most shows are nowadays. Cons- Its main problem is being too generic. Note to Parents- This has the same sort of problems that you would often see on shows nowadays, but it is not nearly as bad as what you might see on other shows. Recommendation- I would say that one should watch this if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I have watched this since the first episode, but have not seen every episode. Prediction- This will last until syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B. New review

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Status- Currently on Tuesdays at 9/8 Central on the CW. Why I’ve seen it- I had an obligation to watch one midseason replacement on the CW at the time plus a general interest in the show. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from The Flash and Arrow TV shows using characters from them and from DC comics. It is set in the general Arrowverse. Description- A time master gets a team of people from our time to save the world from a threat in the future. The plot has evolved beyond that, although the idea of time travelling superheroes is still there. Pros- The plot is good and gripping. It is very interesting and keeps you coming back for more. Cons- Its connections with other shows are quite a problem. It drags on too long. It recycles too much from Arrowverse without bringing too much on its own without it. Like all shows in this franchise, it is hard to understand it without watching the other shows as well. Note to Parents- This is probably the standard amount of objectionable material, although it doesn’t seem as focused on sex as some shows. There’s a lot of fighting in it like there are in all of the Arrowverse shows. Recommendation- You should watch this if you don’t already have more important commitments. My Viewing Habits- I have watched this since the first episode, although I might have missed a few. Prediction- This will probably last for a while, if all goes well. The only thing against it is whether there are simply too many shows for the network, but I see it lasting a long time. It might be in more danger of ending in the future than other shows in the franchise, but we’ll see. Reception: mixed to positive. Grade: A.

Black-ish: Status- Currently on ABC at 9:30/8:30 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I had time the one time I tuned in. Noteworthiness- This is based on a true story or might have been at one point in time when it first started out. Description- This sitcom is about a black family. Pros- It is popular with critics. Cons- I thought that this show was terrible. I didn’t find any of it funny nor did I understand the purpose that it had. Note to Parents- Having only seen one episode, I don’t know what to put here. It might be okay for kids, but I really don’t know for sure what to tell people. Recommendation- I wouldn’t watch it, but that’s just me. My Viewing Habits- I don’t watch it. I only saw it once then had no interest in watching it again since it just didn’t click with me. Prediction- This will keep lasting longer. Reception: positive. Grade: D.

New Amsterdam: Status- Currently on NBC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I forget why, but I think that I wanted to see it and a new fall show on NBC at the time. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by a true story, based off of a book that a doctor wrote about patients. Description- This is more or less a typical medical drama. Notable People- Ryan Eggold, who used to star in The Blacklist and The Blacklist: Redemption, is on this show. Pros- The main character is wonderful and you don’t see hook-ups like you normally would on most shows like this. Cons- It is hard to see what is different between it and other shows like it. Note to Parents- I think that this has always been TV-14 so it might not be a show that preteens and younger should watch. Recommendation- I think that one should watch it if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I got into this a bit late, despite wanting to see it since the beginning. I have only seen the first episode of season 2 and haven’t watched past it thus far due to constant issues with this channel’s reception where I live. Prediction- It has been renewed for quite a lot of seasons at once. If the ratings keep up, it will last longer than that as well, but we’ll have to wait and see just how long it lasts. Reception: mixed to negative. Grade: B. New review

For Life: Status- Currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- The show looked like it could be interesting. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by a true story of a man named Walter Isaacson Jr. Description- A wrongly convicted man who is serving life in prison is also a lawyer working to help others and clear his own name. Pros- It is quite interesting and worth keeping up with. Cons- The show doesn’t seem focused in some places like you would want it to be. Note to Parents- This is not safe for the younger kids, but it would work for teens and older. Recommendation- I think that this is worth seeing on a regular basis. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the first episode and plan to keep watching it until the end. Prediction- This doesn’t seem likely to last at the moment due to low ratings. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: B+. New review

FBI: Most Wanted: Status- Currently on CBS at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watch the original so I figured that I might as well watch this too. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of FBI and by the same creator as it. Description- An FBI team tries to find the most wanted criminals. Notable People- Julian McMahon from the original Charmed plays the main character. Pros- It seems like a good show that you would like and expect. Cons- I say that the problems with it are it seeming generic and like a carbon copy of the original with new characters instead of something new we could get from it. Note to Parents- This probably doesn’t have as much of an issue as other shows do, but I would say that it might not be safe for the younger ones, but is probably fine for older kids. Recommendation- I think that one should watch this and one doesn’t yet have to see both this and the original in order to understand it. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the beginning and plan to watch it until the end. Prediction- This will last a while. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B. New review
