Tuesdays in Primetime Version 7

Tuesdays are a competitive night on television. It is also when some of television’s most popular shows are on. The only problem is that the shows are so good, you won’t be able to watch them all. A lot of comedies are on tonight on various networks. What all is good? Well, let’s delve into it.

The Flash: Status- Currently on the CW at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- General interest in shows like it. Noteworthiness- This is set in the same world as Arrow. This show is based off of a comic book series. Description- This show is about a person who is struck by lightning and gains the power of super speed. Pros- There’s a lot in here that keeps you coming back. The plots normally always work. Cons- It may seem similar to other superhero TV shows. It is too connected to Arrow and other shows in the universe which can cause problems if you don’t watch all the other shows. It might seem too much like a kid’s show at times due to it teaching lessons. Note to Parents- This show is targeted to teens and is safe for them to watch, although enough of it is bad for younger audiences. Recommendation- I think that this is probably worth watching all the time. Just don’t tune in if you can’t keep up with all of the other Arrowverse shows. My Viewing Habits- I have been a fan of this since the first episode although I have missed a lot of it as it went on for various reasons. Prediction- This will probably last a good while. I haven’t heard problems with ratings so I think it will do well. Reception: positive. Grade: A-.

NCIS: Status- Currently on CBS at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- My brother and the rest of my family liked the show and I thought it was good enough to watch all the time. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of the show JAG. At least at the beginning, the cases on the show were inspired by real cases. I don’t know if they still are. It has two spin-offs. It is the longest running of the dramas that are still on the air on CBS with new episodes. Description- A team of federal agents solves murders of marines and navy members as well as other crimes relating to them and other people. Notable People- Wilmer Valderama from That 70’s Show, Awake, and Minority Report, is a character on this show. Pros- It stays fresh despite its long time on the air. The humor is quite interesting. Cons- It is running out of steam. It has lost a lot of its cast as it has gone along. Note to Parents- I’ve noticed enough bad stuff in here, but mostly related to violence more than anything else. I watched this as a teen and don’t see why others can’t too. Recommendation- It is one of my favorite shows. I say watch it if you have the chance too and aren’t already. My Viewing Habits- I got into this late originally but have since gotten older seasons on DVD and have seen most episodes by now. Prediction- It could be in danger of ending. Some say that it would end if Mark Harmon left the show. If I had to guess, I would say that next season might be the last one of it. Reception: very positive. Grade: A+.

The Resident: Status- Currently on FOX at 8/7 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watched this for my Good Wife blog and to fulfill my promise to watch a midseason replacement on FOX the season that it started. Description- This is a medical drama that features different doctors, some new, and there are various problems at the hospital at times. It seems a rather complicated plot that is hard to sum up easily. It should make more sense as it goes along. Notable People- This has Matt Czuchry who used to star in The Good Wife and Gilmore girls. It also has Emily VanCamp who starred on Brothers and Sisters as well as Revenge. Pros- It points out the flaws that can happen in a hospital, but does it in a good way. It can seem more humanizing than most medical dramas that I’ve seen in the past. Cons- It seems similar to House. The lead can be strange and arrogant. It is often too focused on sex at times. There are some medical stuff that you don’t know why it is there. Note to Parents- It airs with a content adversary warning in some episodes so that’s all you really need to know about it. Recommendation- I’d say that this is good to stay into if you want to. My Viewing Habits- I plan to watch this until the very end. Whether I’ll be able to see every episode or not remains to be seen. Prediction- This should last until it hits syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B.

Black-ish: Status- Currently on ABC at 9/8 Central on Wednesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I had time the one time I tuned in. Noteworthiness- This is based on a true story or might have been at one point in time when it first started out. Description- This sitcom is about a black family. Pros- It is popular with critics. Cons- I thought that this show was terrible. I didn’t find any of it funny nor did I understand the purpose that it had. Note to Parents- Having only seen one episode, I don’t know what to put here. It might be okay for kids, but I really don’t know for sure what to tell people. Recommendation- I wouldn’t watch it, but that’s just me. My Viewing Habits- I don’t watch it. I only saw it once then had no interest in watching it again since it just didn’t click with me. Prediction- This will keep lasting longer. Reception: positive. Grade: D.

FBI: Status- Currently on CBS at 9/8 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- It aired on CBS. Description- Needless to say, this is about the FBI and it features various threats that the team has to face. Notable People- This stars Missy Peregrym, who used to star in Rookie Blue. Dick Wolf, who created the Law and Order franchise and the Chicago franchise, also did this as well. Pros- It seems better than most shows are nowadays. Cons- Its main problem is being too generic. Note to Parents- This has the same sort of problems that you would often see on shows nowadays, but it is not nearly as bad as what you might see on other shows. Recommendation- I would say that one should watch this if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I have watched this since the first episode, but have not seen every episode. Prediction- This will last until syndication. Reception: mixed. Grade: B.

Supergirl: Status- Currently on the CW at 9/8 Central on Sundays. Why I’ve seen it- I thought that it looked good and I watch every show on CBS at least once, which is the network it used to air on before it switched. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from DC comics. It has links to the same world as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow, among other shows. It was on CBS for the first season before moving to the CW for the future where it is likely to stay until it ends. Description- Superman’s cousin, who is female, becomes a superhero herself fighting various alien outlaws and other supernatural creatures or whoever seeks to harm the earth. Pros- This show is quite good and interesting, seeing a previously unknown superhero (to me, at least) get her own story. Cons- There could be potential flaws with being politically correct. Some of the subplots can seem like a waste. Note to Parents- From what I’ve seen thus far, this show is pretty acceptable to a younger audience, although there still might be more violence than they would need. There is also a gay main character, if that affects anything in your mind. Recommendation- I think that this is a good show and worth watching. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the first episode, but have not seen every one. Prediction- It is ending this season. Reception: highly positive. Grade: A-.

Prodigal Son: Status- Currently on FOX at 9/8 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I was a bit into it and want to start watching every new FOX show when I can. Description- A consult works for the cops while also dealing with his criminal father. Pros- It’s not entirely something different while not being something you wouldn’t expect either. It seems to make sense. Cons- It could become too clichĂ© or mysterious. Note to Parents- I don’t know what to say having not seen much of this show. I will say that it is probably not for kids, but teens might be okay watching it. Recommendation- This might be good for others to watch. My Viewing Habits- I don’t know yet if I’ll be able to see it more than once or not. I can only hope that I will be able to see more. Prediction- This is in danger of going away so it might not last beyond its current season. Reception: mixed. Grade: B.

New Amsterdam: Status- Currently on NBC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I forget why, but I think that I wanted to see it and a new fall show on NBC at the time. Noteworthiness- This is inspired by a true story, based off of a book that a doctor wrote about patients. Description- This is more or less a typical medical drama. Notable People- Ryan Eggold, who used to star in The Blacklist and The Blacklist: Redemption, is on this show. Pros- The main character is wonderful and you don’t see hook-ups like you normally would on most shows like this. Cons- It is hard to see what is different between it and other shows like it. Note to Parents- I think that this has always been TV-14 so it might not be a show that preteens and younger should watch. Recommendation- I think that one should watch it if one is able to. My Viewing Habits- I got into this a bit late, despite wanting to see it since the beginning. I have only seen the first episode of season 2 and haven’t watched past it thus far due to constant issues with this channel’s reception where I live until a bit after season 3 started. Prediction- It has been renewed for quite a lot of seasons at once. If the ratings keep up, it will last longer than that as well, but we’ll have to wait and see just how long it lasts. Reception: mixed to negative. Grade: B.

Big Sky: Status- Currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- It looked good and interesting. I also wanted to see a new fall show on ABC and this was the only one that counted or would have been were it not for the early fall schedule. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from a book series. Description- Two girls and another woman wind up kidnapped with various others in the cast here and there. The show has since evolved beyond that in its short time on the air thus far. Pros- The show is quite gripping and can keep one coming back for more. All of the characters have some sort of story that is worth seeing how it pans out. The villains are well done. Cons- The name of the show makes little to no sense. Some have criticized promoting Ryan Philippe’s role in this when his character was killed in the first episode. One of the characters was very poorly written and acted. It focuses on missing white girls in an area where missing Indigenous people are more common. Having a corrupt cop as a character could be seen as questionable. Note to Parents- There is a gender non-binary character on the show, although I have no idea how you’d fell about that. The topic is rather grim and serious. While rape has not happened on the show, there is kidnapping, murder, and other violence. Hints about sex trafficking are quite clear. There was a prostitute on it at one point in time. Recommendation- This is quite a good show in my mind and I feel that it is worth keeping up with. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this since the first episode, but have not seen every episode for various reasons. Prediction- This seems likely to last for now. Reception: mixed. Grade: B. New review

FBI: Most Wanted: Status- Currently on CBS at 10/9 Central on Tuesdays. Why I’ve seen it- I watch the original so I figured that I might as well watch this too. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off of FBI and by the same creator as it. Description- An FBI team tries to find the most wanted criminals. Notable People- Julian McMahon from the original Charmed plays the main character. Pros- It seems like a good show that you would like and expect. Cons- I say that the problems with it are it seeming generic and like a carbon copy of the original with new characters instead of something new we could get from it. Note to Parents- This probably doesn’t have as much of an issue as other shows do, but I would say that it might not be safe for the younger ones, but is probably fine for older kids. Recommendation- I think that one should watch this and one doesn’t yet have to see both this and the original in order to understand it. My Viewing Habits- I have seen this from the beginning and plan to watch it until the end. Prediction- This will last a while. It is renewed for next season. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B.
