My Planned Television Viewing Habits: Summer of 2016

Now that I share what my television viewing habits are (or at least planned to be), I might as well tell you what my summer schedule will be like. Even a TV junkie like me tends to take a break every now and then and during the summertime, I tend to watch a lot less TV than I normally would. I can take breaks from always watching every part of primetime so I can watch more movies on certain times when it fits in my schedule. It can be a bit relaxing to unwind with less stuff to watch. But what all do I watch? Well, I might as well tell you.

First, I’ll address the regular season spillover of shows that will last into summer. Some of this is speculation, but the rest is known shows, that I watch at least, that will still be airing during the summer despite being, or at least starting out, as regular season shows. The CBS show, Rush Hour, for instance, is going to still be airing into the summer. That’s not a good sign for its long term chances, but sometimes shows last longer than it should on the schedule and it still returns for a second season. The final season of Person of Interest will still be airing during the summer. I think that Reign might still be airing later than usual. I’m not entirely sure what else if any will be airing late.

There are returning summer shows that I’m going to watch again. The CW will show Masters of Illusion, so I will watch that again. They will bring back two shows that I watch: Penn and Teller: Fool Us and Whose Line is it Anyways? I’ll be watching Big Brother as usual. If Hollywood Game Night isn’t actually cancelled like I think it is, then I’ll watch it if it airs during the summer. I could watch 20/20 and Dateline whenever they are on, although I’m not yet sure if I will. Plus, ABC and NBC tend to have worse than usual reception problems for me during the summer so I probably will not be able to see most of what I want to. The one I’m looking out for most is Primetime: What Would you Do? That’s an ABC show that I like more than any other show. If Boom returns, I’ll watch that. The same can be said about Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? That’s all that I can remember for this season.

What new summer shows do I plan on watching? Well, CBS seems to be replacing Under the Dome and Extant with Brain Dead and American Gothic respectively. I’m not entirely sure what they are about or if I would like them long term, but since they are CBS shows, I will be watching them as usual at least once. Houdini and Doyle will count as a summer show in my mind, although I’m not sure if I will watch that for sure. NBC will be airing Maya and Martin in Manhattan, a new variety show, and I’ll probably watch that at least once. I think that I’ll tune into To Tell the Truth and Match Game when they are on. There might also be existing shows I’ll get into for the first time. I don’t know that much about the new summer shows I’ll be into. Things don’t always go according to plan, for better or for worse, with my watching plans. You’ll see what I ended up watching in my summer reviews this season.

Well, that’s about it for this post. I would mention more, but I’m not sure what else there is to say. Now with summer shows, I tend to only watch one thing at a time and not record anything. I also don’t have to watch all of the primetime hours like I would during the main season. Of course, things could easily change regarding this. We’ll see what happens.
