While some people may not
realize it, when a show airs affects it a lot. A time slot can affect a show in
a lot of different ways. Maybe it changes in certain noticeable ways when it
gets a new timeslot. Maybe it doesn’t seem to change anything about the show
except ratings. Whatever the reasons, I might as well get to them all in this
post.
Sometimes you never see a
change because sometimes, a show never has more than one timeslot throughout
its entire run on TV. For instance, NCIS has, to date, only aired at 8/7
Central on Tuesdays outside of reruns. This is rare for a show to not have more
than one timeslot, although some of when that happens is when a show only lasts
a short amount of time.
Largely, dealing with
scheduling is the main issue behind timeslot changes. A show on Sunday is
likely not going to air against some of the award shows that are going on or
other notable events like The Super Bowl or literally anything that would
change the schedule some. Not all of the timeslot changes do relate to this,
but sometimes, it is easier to keep airing a show at a new time other than
waiting for the other events to end in the future. For instance, Elementary had
moved to Sundays before March Madness would have pre-empted it airing for two
weeks so a new show could debut in its old timeslot after part of the
tournament was over. Scheduling will often just affect what airs when.
Does constantly changing a
timeslot affect a show a lot? Well, that would depend on a lot of things. One
thing that is worth noting is that most timeslot changes are between seasons
and not as the season is progressing. People are more likely to stick with
shows this way, being prepared for what is going on. Sometimes, shows don’t get
as good ratings at a new timeslot. But often, they can still last. Even when
shows are moved to Fridays, they still might last quite a while like Hawaii
Five-0 has.
Part of the main change you
would see with timeslots is when a show airs at 9 Central. This is the latest
timeslot on any network and is the only one that neither FOX nor the CW show
any primetime shows at. This is seen as a time to air darker shows that may
have more violence or foul language in it. This is not always the case as some
shows that aren’t airing more adult content air that late due to various factors
that not everyone can keep track of.
Well, that’s pretty much it
for this post as different timeslots can affect the same show or different
shows that have the same timeslot of when they air. Sometimes it doesn’t mean
much outside of when the show airs and other times, it could mean a lot of
different things in terms of changes. I don’t think that there is much else to
say so I will let you go now.
