Cancelled Shows 2016-2017

I am back with my longest post of the year. That’s right! If you couldn’t tell by the title, this is my review of all the cancelled shows this season. I’ll even mention various cancelled shows that I haven’t seen that still ended this season. You will see with absolute horror just how much time I spend watching TV by noting that with some networks, I have seen all of the shows that they cancelled this season. Maybe I should tone down some of my TV watching obsession. But I hope that you enjoy this as I put a lot of effort into this post. I am trying to change a bit how things are done with this blog which you should see in the future with other reviews of shows.

Before I continue on, I’ll have to include the usual note that some shows included were not actually cancelled, officially anyways, but are practically dead by virtue of having never come back. This will include some late notice of cancellations. We don’t know for sure what happened with some shows since there isn’t any official news about what happened to them. Other shows premiere at weird times. Still others are promoted in such a way that we don’t know for sure what could end up happening with them. Still other strange things happen from time to time. For instance, if Secrets and Lies hadn’t come back for this season, I would have written it off as cancelled in the last post. And if the X-Files weren’t announced as coming back, I’d have it written off as finally cancelled (again) in this post. I’ll even make a note of this in the groupings I have of cancelled shows which ones are unofficially cancelled. I’ll always mention that first in this and future posts when I’m done mentioning all the cancelled shows.

Another thing to note is that there can be confusion relating to when certain shows air. I normally mention the summer shows of one year as cancelled as part of the next season simply because I want to make these more time sensitive and you wouldn’t be able to tell with a lot of the shows until they aren’t around the next season and that’s only when you know for sure. In fact, at least one of these shows clearly wasn’t a part of even the summer last year as it aired earlier and I can only just now declare it dead officially. So please enjoy these reviews and thoughts on various other cancelled shows.

BrainDead: Why I’ve seen it- I was generally interested in the show, I tend to always watch a new show on CBS, and since it features a link to The Good Wife, I had to watch it once to review for my other blog. Description- A political drama with supernatural twists, this show steals from Invasion of the Body Snatchers by having alien bugs taking over the brains of politicians. Notable People- Robert King and Michelle King, who both created The Good Wife, are the creators of this show as well. Tony Shaloub, who is most notable for Monk, is a character on the show. Pros- The show is interesting and different. Not much about it has been used elsewhere. Cons- The show is slow moving and can be strange. It doesn’t always make sense. Note to Parents- While this certainly isn’t too bad, I would have to recommend against preteens and younger watching this. The usual sex problems are there as expected. Recommendation- I would say that this is pretty good to watch, even after a possible slight cliffhanger. My viewing habits- I don’t think that I watched every episode, but I have seen it since the very beginning and watched until the very end of the show. Cancellation reasons- The show never got that good ratings and whatever chances it had of renewal before it was moved to the worst timeslot ever (10/9 Central on CBS Sundays) and it had even less afterwards. Similar shows- Madam Secretary, iZombie, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DVD suggestion- I might get them myself, although I don’t know yet for sure if I will or if it is out on DVD or will be at some point. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: B-. It was replaced by Candy Crush.

Time after Time: Why I’ve seen it- I like most time travel shows and watch them whenever possible. Noteworthiness- It is based off of a book and a movie of the same name. Description- H. G. Wells follows Jack the Ripper from the past into the present with his time machine and he works to prevent future murders and fix what has changed with time while working with various people. Pros- This show is gripping, intriguing, and just keeps getting better. It goes in unexpected places and seems to have various plots to keep you interested in it. Cons- The show can be a bit gruesome. It has typical time travel flaws that can cause headaches. It being pulled from the schedule means that we will never find out what else happened in that. Note to Parents- There is the typical violence and sex that is likely worrisome for parents. Unless your kids are in high school, don’t let them watch this. Recommendation- I would highly recommend this for everyone. My viewing habits- I think that I saw every episode of this that aired and I’d watch more, but I don’t think that I can unless I can find a bootlegged version on a trustworthy site. Cancellation reasons- Not enough people watched it so it failed as a result. Similar shows- Timeless, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. DVD suggestion- I doubt that this will be out on DVD, but if it is, I would get it. Reception: mixed. Grade: A.

Powerless: Why I’ve seen it- I thought that I would be interested in it and it seemed like it would fit in my schedule. Noteworthiness- This is in a self contained part of the DC comics universe. Description- This shows more of the human side of the superhero battles as an insurance firm seeks to protect people from the effects of those attacks. Notable People- This stars Vanessa Hudgens who was in the High School Musical series. Alan Tudyk, who was in Firefly, Con Man, Newsreaders, Suburgatory, and other shows and movies, is a character. Danny Pudi, who was on Community, is another character. Ron Funches, most recently from Undateable, is yet another character. Pros- I think that this is quite good and funny. It can show the more everyman part of the superhero world while being removed enough from it. Cons- Part of its problem is being set in a weird universe that’s mostly unknown to the viewers. A lot of the characters can seem like a cliché type of character in some way. Note to Parents- I’m not sure if there is much to worry about. If you let them watch Saturday morning cartoons, you’d probably be okay with this. There just might be some more language issues in here. Recommendation- I would watch this if you could. My Viewing Habits- I have missed some episodes, but have seen it, more or less, from the first episode. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were always terrible and they didn’t air the last three episodes although at least one of them was released later online. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- If this came out on DVD, I might get it. I just don’t think that it will be released though. Reception: somewhat positive. Grade: B.

Person of Interest: Why I’ve seen it- I thought that it looked good so I started watching it. Description- People work outside the law to stop crimes before they happen. Well, sometimes the law helps them with their cases. Notable People- Jim Caviezel, notable for films like the Passion of the Christ, is the main character. Michael Emerson, from Lost, is another character. Amy Acker, from various TV shows like Drive, Dollhouse, and other shows and movies, is a main character as well. Pros- It lives up to the hype that people like the show. It is interesting and keeps you watching. Cons- The show can be ridiculous at points with its plots and a lot of it is unrealistic. It can be boring at times. Some of it seems to go nowhere and a lot of it is confusing. Note to Parents- There were torture scenes and the standard amount of other violence. Recommendation- I would say that most people would probably like this and want to watch it, even if the earlier seasons were a bit better. My Viewing Habits- I have not seen every episode, but I have watched since the very beginning. Cancellation reasons- Simply put, CBS was being a dick to a show because they didn’t own it so they delayed the airing of the newest season, said that it was the final one, and burned it off during the early summer in two timeslots. Special Note- This could actually be better described as a show cancelled last season and not this season, but since it mostly aired during the summer, I decided to put it with this season’s cancelled shows instead of last season’s. Similar shows- Arrow, The Blacklist, Gotham, and Blindspot. DVD suggestion- I am planning on getting it as I liked the ending a lot. Reception: very positive. Grade: B. Since it aired in two timeslots, that can confuse what replaced it especially since they changed when it aired. One replacement is Bull and the other was first BrainDead and is now Candy Crush.

2 Broke Girls: Why I’ve seen it- I had the opportunity to watch it once to see if it was any good and my devotion to the CBS network is another reason why I watched it. Description- This show is about, well, two broke girls. Pros- It has its moments of interest sometimes. Cons- The acting is crap. The characters are weak. The transition music is stupid. The show is otherwise pointless. Note to Parents- I would not recommend this for kids due to offensive stereotypes and other problems. Recommendation- There is no reason you should watch it. My Viewing Habits- I only watched this once and never saw it ever again. Cancellation reasons- It was an aging show and not owned by CBS so they decided to off it since it wasn’t doing as well in the ratings anymore either. Similar show: Family Guy. DVD suggestion- Do not get this unless you want to go broke on something that isn’t good. Reception: mixed to negative. Grade: F. It was replaced by Me, Myself, and I.

The McLaughlin Group: Why I’ve seen it- For some unknown reason, it interested me. Maybe I just happened to catch a random episode and started watching all the time afterwards. Noteworthiness- It premiered for the first time on January 1^st, 1982 and had been on the air consistently with new episodes until August 21^st, 2016. Description- John McLaughlin and four panelists, two Republicans and two Democrats, debate and talk about various current events. Pros- All the yelling and talking over each other can be quite humorous.  You get to hear both sides of the debate. Cons- It has a conservative bias. It doesn’t always seem to make a good point, if it makes a point at all. Note to Parents- This would depend on if you let your kids watch the news on a regular basis. If you do, then there probably wouldn’t be much different from it. If you wouldn’t, then that’s all you need to know. Recommendation- I honestly don’t know what to say here. I used to like it before I realized the bias that it has. Maybe it is good, but I can’t tell for sure if you’d think that or not. My Viewing Habits- I watched this for a long time, but when I realized the bias it had, I didn’t watch again until I saw what ended up being the last episode online. Cancellation reasons- When the host of the show died, they decided to end it. I don’t know yet if they will start a similar show with the same premise or not. Similar show: The View. DVD suggestion- I don’t know if this would be on DVD and I don’t know if it would be worth getting considering all of the past events it would be covering. Reception: good. Grade: B-.

Original review of The McLaughlin Group with possibly outdated information: McLaughlin Group: Description- A panel of people discuss current political affairs. It is filmed in Washington DC. There is the main person and two people for each political side. Pros- There is political discussion from both sides. The bickering can be quite funny. Cons- It is not for people who don't like to discuss politics. They are actually biased towards the right which although hard to notice, once I did I stopped watching the show. Recommendation- Watch it if you like it. I think that it is pretty interesting. Prediction- This show will never leave the air. Grade: B.

The Vampire Diaries: Why I’ve seen it- Void in life after the cancellation of Moonlight and I didn’t watch anything else at the time it was first on my schedule. Noteworthiness- It was inspired by a book series that existed before Twilight. The show is comparable to Twilight, in a way. Description- A teenage girl learns of the existence of vampires and other supernatural creatures. The story has since progressed into something much more complicated that would take too long to get into. Plus, I don’t watch it anymore, so I don’t know what it might be like anymore. If you really care, look it up somewhere or watch an episode. Pros- Although it is a teen drama like everything else on the CW, this has a twist that draws in other fans. The storyline is gripping to the audience. Cons- Inappropriate stuff is present as usual. There may be no human characters in the end of the series. The same stuff tends to happen in different ways. It follows a soap opera format and thus never really seems to end. You’ve seen one episode, you’ve seen them all. The show drags itself on and on with new storylines all the time. Note to Parents- Teens may like this but much younger shouldn’t watch. Its biggest problem, at least at one point, was the focus on teen sexuality. Recommendation- While I used to enjoy this show, I don’t want to see it anymore. Whether you feel the same way or not is your decision. I would say that this is best avoided. My Viewing Habits- I got into this late and watched for a while until I was too upset with a plot point that they did that I almost never watched it again, although it never regained my interested when I tried to give it another chance. Cancellation reasons- I’m not entirely sure why it ended, but I think that it was because it had aged too much and people just didn’t care about it anymore. Similar shows- The Originals, The 100, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DVD suggestion- I’d pass on this. Reception: mixed then positive. Grade: D+. It was replaced first by the returning show The Originals then the returning Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Steve Harvey: Why I’ve seen it- It was on and I wanted to see something of some sort. Description- Steve Harvey hosts a talk show. Notable People- Steve Harvey, who currently hosts Family Feud and is a well-known comedian, is the host of this show. Pros- The show is interesting, despite not featuring notable people on it besides the host. Cons- As usual, it runs the risk of being too bland. Note to Parents- I doubt that this would be good for most kids or teens and it would have aired when kids are in school anyways. Recommendation- It might actually be worth watching, unlike the vast majority of male hosted daytime talk shows. My Viewing Habits- I never saw that much of it as I wasn’t that interested in it. Cancellation reasons- Steve wanted to do a different show so he stopped doing this. Similar show: The Ellen DeGeneres Show. DVD suggestion- This won’t be on DVD and I don’t think that it would be worth it anyways. Reception: mixed. Grade: B-.

American Gothic: Why I’ve seen it- I tend to watch a new CBS show at least once. Description- I don’t fully understand the plot of the show, but it relates to a serial killer and rich people with potential motives to being the killer. Pros- It tries to be different. Cons- I didn’t find much interesting about this as I felt this show was another unoriginal take on the rich people with dark intentions cliché. I found the show to be boring as well. Note to Parents- This isn’t for kids as it is too dark, even though I didn’t think it was that bad. Recommendation- This isn’t any good so I’d skip it. My viewing habits- I only watched this once. Cancellation reasons- The show didn’t get good ratings so they cancelled it as a result. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I doubt that they would release it, but if it is, don’t get it. Reception: mixed. Grade: F. It was replaced by Salvation.

Scream Queens: Why I’ve seen it- I had a dream about it, so I decided to watch it. Description- I honestly don’t know how to describe it. You might have to watch it for yourself to get your own clear perspective on it. Nearest I can tell, it is about a bunch of women with some men and there’s some sort of killer on the loose. Notable People- There are so many famous people in this, I can’t begin to mention them all. Pros- The show is different. It is also female centric. Cons- The show is very weird and doesn’t make any sense. The writing was way off. Note to Parents- It’s hard to tell much about this based off of one episode of it, but I don’t recommend this for young ones as it can be too gruesome. Recommendation- Don’t watch this. My Viewing Habits- I only watched this once. Cancellation reasons- Its ratings were terrible and did not justify renewal in any way. Similar show: American Horror Story. DVD suggestion- Don’t waste your time or money on this. Reception: mixed. Grade: F.

No Tomorrow: Why I’ve seen it- Starting from now, I’ll always watch whatever new shows air on the CW if it works out well for me. Noteworthiness- Like most things on the CW, this is based on something else, in this case, a Brazilian TV series. Description- It’s hard to tell for sure what it is about. It seems to be about a woman who is being taught how to live by a person who thinks that the world is ending. But there is more to it than that. Pros- It did have some interesting qualities. It benefits from being different. Cons- It seems that the characters are too flawed to like. Note to Parents- There’s enough in here that’s objectionable for younger ones, but not teens. Recommendation- I’d pass on this one. My Viewing Habits- I only watched the first episode and then never saw it again. Cancellation reasons- Even for the CW, it had too low ratings and its future fate as cancelled was sealed when they never ordered more episodes for it. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I doubt that it will be released, although I wouldn’t get it if it were. Reception: generally positive. Grade: D. It was replaced by Riverdale.

The Real O’Neals: Why I’ve seen it- It aired with a show that I watch. Description- This is another in a line of dysfunctional family shows. Notable People- This has Martha Plimpton, who was in Raising Hope, as a star in this show. Pros- It is gay friendly. Cons- The show mocks religion, is devoid of humor, and is downright terrible. Note to Parents- Don’t let them watch this. Recommendation- There is nothing good about this show so don’t waste your time with it. My Viewing Habits- I only watched it once and never watched it again. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were terrible so they got rid of it. Similar shows- Family Guy and The Simpsons. DVD suggestion- Don’t get them as it would be a huge waste. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: F.

Celebrity Name Game: Why I’ve seen it- It came on at a good time for me. Description- Two pairs of contestants compete against each other and with the help of celebrities to win money. Notable People- Craig Ferguson, who used to host the Late Late Show on CBS, is the host of this show. The celebrities are typically famous as well to some varying degree. Pros- The show is quite interesting. The game is fun to watch. Cons- The game doesn’t always see fair in every way. Sometimes, the host gives the answer away and it seems like points and games can be lost on technicalities. It seems like some celebrity helpers aren’t as good as others and could thus be affecting the game for some people. Note to Parents- I don’t think that this is that bad outside of possible sexual dialogue. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. My viewing habits- I’ve seen various episodes, but never really watched it as much as I could have. I wasn’t that interested. Cancellation reasons- I honestly have no idea. If I cared, I’d tell you, but I don’t. Similar show: Hollywood Game Night. DVD suggestion- This won’t be out on DVD, although I’m not sure if it would be worth it anyways. Reception: good. Grade: C+.

Conviction: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it, even though I thought it would be more of a courtroom drama than it ended up being. Description- This show is about people who work for the Conviction Integrity Unit, a place that works to make sure that people were not wrongly convicted. Notable People- Hayley Atwell, who was the star of Agent Carter, is a character on this show. Eddie Cahill, who was on CSI: New York, is another character on the show. Pros- The show is pretty interesting and good. It can be different than just being another courtroom drama. Cons- There is a time limit to doing the case that seems arbitrary. There are some flaws with the characters that don’t help the show. It isn’t a courtroom drama like some might want it to be. Note to Parents- There are bad things in here like drug use, sex, and the typical amount of violence that one would expect from shows about murders and the like. Recommendation- It is good enough to watch. My Viewing Habits- I don’t know if I saw every episode, but I stuck with this from the very beginning to the very end. Cancellation reasons- Its ratings were terrible and they never ordered any more episodes, which sealed its fate. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I doubt that this would be out on DVD, but it might be good if it were released. Reception: generally negative. Grade: B.

Grimm: Why I’ve seen it- Promise to watch a new NBC show when it premiered. Description- A police officer discovers that he is a “Grimm,” a person who can see fairy tale characters in real life. It is more of a police drama with a twist than a fairy tale drama. Pros- It is pretty interesting and proves that good shows air on Fridays sometimes. Cons- The fairy tale angle is unoriginal. The show is very strange a lot to both regular viewers and potential new viewers. Parts of it are just messed up. It is confusing a lot. Note to Parents- I wouldn’t let the young ones watch. Teens might be okay, but younger shouldn’t watch. Recommendation- I’d say that you should probably watch it if you have the time. My viewing habits- I was a fan from the first episode, although I missed a lot of episodes. Cancellation reasons- I’m not sure why it was, but I guess that the powers that be decided that it would be a good time to end it. Similar shows- Once Upon a Time, Supergirl, The Flash, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DVD suggestion- I plan on getting this at some point. Reception: positive. Grade: B-.

Doubt: Why I’ve seen it- I normally watch a new CBS show at least once. Noteworthiness- What is notable is that it was the first cancellation of the season yet it was cancelled in February. It might be the latest on record as first cancellation, although it wasn’t called that at first when it was yanked from the schedule, although nobody believed it. Description- This is a drama show about defense lawyers. Its main plot is a recurring storyline where the main character is falling for her client whose trial for murder is the main plot of the show. Notable People- This show stars Katherine Heigl, who appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, State of Affairs, and various movies. It also stars transgender Laverne Cox from Orange in the New Black. Pros- It is a bit insightful in a way. Cons- It didn’t seem that much different than the usual courtroom drama. The ending sucked ass. Note to Parents- This has the usual amount of things wrong with it and it wasn’t as bad as some shows are. Recommendation- I would suggest it. My viewing habits- I saw this from the beginning, although I did miss a lot of it when it started burning off on Saturdays. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were bad and it became one of the two shortest lived shows on this season, although one can wonder why they suddenly drew the line here. Similar show: Bull. DVD suggestion- If this is out at some point, I might get it. Reception: mixed. Grade: B+. Its replacement was first the returning Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders then SEAL Team.

Hunted: Why I’ve seen it- I typically watch most CBS shows at least once. Noteworthiness- This is adapted from a foreign show. Description- A self-described reality thriller, this show has various pairs of people on the run from people trying to catch them. Pros- The show is interesting and different. You don’t see things like this that often. Cons- This show appears to play into people’s fears of government surveillance, the way they have the hunters tracking teams. It also seems a bit contrived in a way. It also seems like there are too many people against the main players. Note to Parents- This is okay for kids. I don’t know what could be bad about it. Recommendation- I’d say that this might be worth watching, if you have the time. My Viewing Habits- I watched from the beginning, although I did miss an episode on the way to the end. Cancellation reasons- While it wasn’t actually cancelled, it isn’t on the schedule for future seasons so that means that it is over unless they decide to bring it back after all. Why aren’t they bringing it back? I don’t know. I guess they want something else to fill the gap between Survivor’s fall and spring season. Similar shows- Big Brother and The Amazing Race. DVD suggestion- If this gets out, on DVD, it might be worth the money. Reception: somewhat mixed. Grade: B-. It doesn’t have a regular replacement as it just aired during the gap of Survivor.

Maya and Marty in Manhattan: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it. Description- This is a variety show largely featuring Maya Rudolph and Marty Short. Notable People- The two people I just mentioned were both on Saturday Night Live as well as guests that would show up. Pros- The show can be quite good and funny if you can watch any of it. Cons- The main flaw of this show is that it seems so similar to Saturday Night Live that you have to wonder why you aren’t just watching that show instead. Note to Parents- I don’t know what all in here is good or not as I haven’t seen enough of it. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. I didn’t see enough to know for sure. My Viewing Habits- Due to reception issues with NBC during the summer where I live, I saw almost none of this. Cancellation reasons- Once again, this show isn’t cancelled except by virtue of having not been brought back for the future. Also, it aired last summer and could be considered part of that season and not this season. They didn’t care enough about this show and it wasn’t a long term plan. Similar show: Saturday Night Live. DVD suggestion- I have no idea regardless of if it is released. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: C.

Dr. Ken: Why I’ve seen it- What I watched wasn’t on, so I watched this instead. Description- An actor who was once a doctor plays a doctor. There are other characters as needed. Notable People- Behind the Scenes- Ken Joeng, who was once on Community, is the star of this show. Pros- It got good ratings at one point. Cons- This show is terrible with bad acting, bad writing, and overall poor quality. I’m not sure if it has any redeeming values in the end. Note to Parents- I honestly don’t know what to put here. It could be good for kids, but I don’t know having only seen one episode. Recommendation- This is not worth anyone’s time so don’t watch it. My Viewing Habits- I only watched this once and never saw it again. Cancellation reasons- This one came as a surprise as it got good enough ratings when it was cancelled. We may never know for sure why ABC suddenly turned on this show. My only guess is that people hated it. Similar shows- Superstore, Superior Donuts, and American Dad. DVD suggestion- DO NOT GET THIS EVER! Reception: very negative. Grade: F.

American Crime: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it and it fit in my schedule at the time. Description- I believe that this show changes what it is like from season to season so I’m not entirely sure what the description of it is right now. Be warned that this review may be more like what it was like in the second season, the only season of it I’ve seen. Notable People- Sandra Oh, who was in Grey’s Anatomy, is a main character now according to promos. Pros- The show tackles serious issues. Cons- The show moves far too slowly and isn’t as interesting as one would like. Note to Parents- I think that even the promos air this with a content advisory warning so that’s all you need to know regarding this. Recommendation- I wouldn’t watch it again as I found it to be far too boring. My Viewing Habits- I have only seen one episode of this and won’t watch it again since I didn’t like it. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were too low so they cancelled it as a result. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I wouldn’t get it, although other seasons than the second might have been good. Reception: critically acclaimed. Grade: F.

Reign: Why I’ve seen it- I realized that it would be in my best interest to watch it considering how it would air at the same time of something else that I watched at the same time would get cancelled soon. Noteworthiness- This is somewhat adapted on a true story based on real people. Description- This is a historical fiction show about Mary, Queen of Scots. From what I understand, this may not have much to do with real historical events, so it may not be the best show to watch for a history lesson. Pros- The show is unusual, so it has that in its favor. With it being a different type of show, you can find something much better than the usual. Cons- With the show being mostly made up, some people don’t like the fact that it has some real, historical characters. A lot of what happens doesn’t seem to make sense. It isn’t as interesting as one would like. Recommendation- This is probably worth the watch. My viewing habits- I got into this while its second season was airing. It ended with its fourth season, but I didn’t originally watch it until it fit in my schedule again. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were awful as many shows once outranked it one night. It made no sense to keep it around even on this network. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I might pass on this as it was only good but not too great and the ending, while historically accurate, seemed pretty dumb. Reception: mixed. Grade: C+. Its replacement is Valor for the regular season while its summer replacement was first reruns of Riverdale then reruns of Penn and Teller: Fool Us.

Secrets and Lies: Why I’ve seen it- I thought that it might have a Good Wife alumni in a more major role than he was in. Noteworthiness- This isn’t as noteworthy as it is strange: it was on hiatus for more than a year for seemingly no good reason. Description- I’m not entirely sure of the plot. It relates to different drama that is going on or something like that. Pros- You know what to expect from a show like this. Cons- Nothing really good or interesting happens in it. It is very boring. Note to Parents- I would say that this is best avoided for children. Recommendation- Don’t watch it. My Viewing Habits- I only watched one episode as I didn’t care enough to tune into any more than that. Cancellation reasons- The network didn’t care much about it as evidenced by it being gone for so long. Other reasons were the usual bad ratings. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- Don’t get it. Reception: mixed. Grade: D.

Emerald City: Why I’ve seen it- It looked interesting and I wanted to see it from when it was originally planned to be made. Noteworthiness- Over the course of a few years, it went from being a potential project, to cancelled before it made an episode, to coming back to project development, to possibly airing sometime last season, to finally airing this season. Description- A reimagining of the Oz world puts a modern day and more adult themed twist on the story of Dorothy, who is now a black woman instead of little girl, among other changes. Pros- I thought that it was interesting. They did well on the sets, costumes, and some of the plot. Cons- Parts of this show are strange, which can be expected with fantasy shows. It was confusing. Some of the plot seemed to be wasted on highly unusual things. Note to Parents- This is a bit gruesome and I think that all of the episodes were rated TV14 so that tells you all you need to know. Recommendation- I’d say that it is worth the watch. My Viewing Habits- While I missed some episodes here and there, I watched this more or less from beginning to end. Cancellation reasons- The ratings didn’t do that well and all the production delays that brought it to screen didn’t help its reputation. There was too much against it from the very beginning. Similar shows- Once Upon a Time and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DVD suggestion- This is out on DVD. I might recommend this, but it is hard to know for sure what to say here. Reception: mixed to negative. Grade: B-.

The Blacklist: Redemption: Why I’ve seen it- It was a spin-off of a show that I watch so it made sense to watch this as well. Noteworthiness- This is a spin-off of The Blacklist featuring Tom Kleen, a character from the original show. Description- Tom Kleen joins forces with his mother (who doesn’t know that he’s her son) and other people to do different cases. Pros- This is a pretty good show and if you like The Blacklist, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t like this. It seems to be interesting. Cons- There might be some of a problem with this regarding originality as it seems to be almost identical to The Blacklist except for a different cast. Also, it had a cliffhanger ending, although that could wind up being resolved on the main show. Note to Parents- Kids shouldn’t watch it as it can be too violent. Recommendation- I’d say that this is good enough to watch even if the ending leaves stuff to be desired. My Viewing Habits- I might have seen every episode, although I’m not entirely sure if I did or not. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were too low and it didn’t seem to be a long term plan. Similar shows- Arrow, Gotham, and The Blacklist. DVD suggestion- If this is out, it might be worth it since there aren’t many episodes you’d be devoting yourself to. Reception: good. Grade: B-.

Pure Genius: Why I’ve seen it- I like medical dramas and this airs on CBS, a network I normally watch a new show on at least once. Noteworthiness- This was said to be based off of a true story at one point. Description- This show is about a genius who wants to help people with his hospital that he created. Notable People- Dermot Mulroney, who was in Crisis, is a character on this show. Brenda Song, who was in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody as well as Dads, is another character on the show. Pros- I feel that the show is good and interesting. It isn’t as gruesome or unrealistic as other medical dramas that I have seen in the past. Cons- It probably falls to the same old format that most medical dramas fall into. Note to Parents- I’d recommend against letting your kids watch this even though there isn’t much wrong with it in terms of content. Recommendation- I say that this is pretty good and worth people’s time if you can spare it. My Viewing Habits- I watched from the beginning, although I’m not sure if I saw every episode or not. I stayed until the very end. Cancellation reasons- It got too low ratings and it never got more episodes ordered so that spilled the end of it as well. Similar shows- Chicago Med, Grey’s Anatomy, and Scorpion. DVD suggestion: If this is released to DVD, it might be a good thing to buy. Reception: mixed. Grade: B. Its replacement was first Training Day then the returning show The Amazing Race, and is now S.W.A.T. after Thursday Night Football ends.

Bones: Why I’ve seen it- Randomly watched certain episodes until I started watching every episode. Noteworthiness- This is the longest running FOX drama of all time, even included all those that ended. I don’t know what the new longest drama on the network is now. It is based on cases done by a real person who is a producer of some sort on the show. Description- A different type of drama, it investigates crimes where not much of the body remains, although the murder cases are similar to most TV dramas. Pros- The chemistry between the two leads is interesting enough. The opposites seem to attract. Cons- It doesn’t really separate itself from other shows in this genre despite the few differences that it does have. The show might have been better earlier based on comments I’m reading online from those that call themselves fans (but might not be). Note to Parents- This always aired with a content adversary warning so that’s all you need to know about that. Recommendation- I recommend it, even if earlier seasons are supposedly better. My Viewing Habits- I had caught some reruns before I could get into this long term and stayed with it until the very end. Cancellation reasons- It couldn’t last forever and it seemed that many people wanted it to end so after aging for a while, they decided to get rid of it. Similar shows- NCIS and Scorpion. DVD suggestion- While I plan on getting this for myself eventually, there are a whole lot of seasons to get so that is the only real problem against why you’d get this for yourself. Reception: generally positive. Grade: B.

Last Man Standing: Why I’ve seen it- My brother liked it at the time and the show I typically watched at the time was repeats. Description- This is a man-centric show about being a man with numerous women in your family. I’m not sure if there’s a better way of describing this show or not. Notable People- Tim Allen, known for his comedic work, various movies, and his time on Home Improvement is the main character on this show. Pros- It has been funny in the past. Cons- It can be sexist and otherwise demeaning. It is far too political. An actress was recast which typically isn’t a good sign for a show. As usual, the morals aren’t good. Note to Parents- I’m not sure if this is acceptable for kids or not. I’d lean towards not. Recommendation- I have no idea if you’d like it or not. If you do, then watch, if not, then don’t bother with it. I would avoid watching this. My Viewing Habits- I got into this a bit late and didn’t care enough to watch it all the time. I stayed with it for a bit until I realized that I just couldn’t watch this anymore as if it was good, it wasn’t anymore. Cancellation reasons- There isn’t much of a reason outside of the fact that ABC didn’t own this show and it was getting old. I heard that other networks might be interested in picking it up, but that doesn’t tend to go anywhere. Similar shows- Late Night with Seth Meyers, American Dad, and Family Guy. DVD suggestion- I wouldn’t get this and don’t think that you should either. Reception: panned, then more positive. Grade: D.

Frequency: Why I’ve seen it- It had an interesting premise and is on the CW, a network I try to always watch some of nowadays. Noteworthiness- This is a remake of a movie of the same name. Description- A woman is somehow able to use a ham radio to talk to her father twenty years in the past. This sets in course a chain reaction of events that changes the life of the woman and her father who was originally supposed to die. Pros- This show is pretty good on the consequences of changing time and stuff like that. Cons- Some parts are confusing like how and when things change and the memory of the woman somehow remembering different timelines. Note to Parents- This has the standard amount of sex and violence, although it is nowhere near as bad as some shows are. Recommendation- This is pretty good and I think that everyone would enjoy it if they gave it a chance. My Viewing Habits- I watched this since the first episode, although I don’t think that I saw every episode. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were terrible, even for the CW, and when they never ordered more episodes, they sealed its future fate as cancelled. Similar shows- Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Timeless. DVD suggestion- If this is out, I would get it, especially if they have the epilogue that was released online. Reception: positive. Grade: A. Its replacement was first the returning show The 100 then will be Dynasty this upcoming season.

Imaginary Mary: Why I’ve seen it- It looked good to me and it started at a good time when I was able to watch it. Description- A woman starts dating an unmarried father of three (the kids’ mother divorced from their father) and her old imaginary friend shows back up in her life. Notable People- This has Jenna Elfman, who was in Dharma and Greg, Accidently on Purpose, and 1600 Penn, playing the main character. It also has Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live playing the voice of the imaginary friend. Pros- The show is pretty good as it can be amusing and it has a good take on the fish out of water aspect. Cons- The imaginary friend element to the show seems like more of an afterthought that the show doesn’t use that much and might do better without. Also, the plots for the episodes seem kind of obvious. And it seems like the characters are stereotypes of people you’d see on any sitcom. Note to Parents- There was not too much bad about this outside of bad habits of some characters, but it is way better in terms of content for kids than most modern day sitcoms are. Recommendation- This is good and should be watched. My Viewing Habits- I think that I only missed the first episode and saw every other one that aired. Cancellation reasons- Not enough people watched it and it was cancelled as a result. Similar shows- American Housewife, The Middle, and Modern Family. DVD suggestion- If this gets released to DVD, I would recommend that people get it. Reception: generally negative. Grade: B.

BattleBots: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it. I’m not entirely sure why I was. Noteworthiness- This was once on Comedy Central briefly before ABC made it fuller season show. Description- This is basically killer robots fighting to advance to become the best killer robot. Pros- The show is actually quite interesting. Cons- The format can be a bit strange. The edit doesn’t seem as good as it should be. There might be too much build up and not enough fighting. The rules for how a robot advances can seem dumb and one can wonder why all fights aren’t just knockouts. Note to Parents- If you don’t want to let your kids watching robots fighting, then don’t let them watch this show. If you’re like me, you wouldn’t see any problems this would be for kids. Recommendation- I’d say that you should probably watch this if you can. My Viewing Habits- I watched what I could of the second season that aired on ABC and that was about it. Cancellation reasons- This wasn’t cancelled outside of the fact that it didn’t come back this summer, marking the end of its run. I guess that it wasn’t as popular as ABC was wanting it to be. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I don’t think that this will be out on DVD, but if it is, it might be worth the watching, but might not be. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: C+.

Wayward Pines: Why I’ve seen it- I had a dream about it. Noteworthiness- This is based off of a book. Description- It is hard to describe the show. It appears to be set in the future of a fake happy town where sinister things happen but there are evil things outside of the town as well. Notable People- M Night Shavalyan, famous horror director, helps work with the show. Pros- It actually works as a horror TV show. Cons- It isn’t all that interesting. Note to Parents- It airs with a content advisory warning, so that’s all you need to know regarding that. Recommendation- It’s not my type of show so I don’t actually recommend it, although you might if you like this type of show. My Viewing Habits- I only watched this once. Cancellation reasons- It wasn’t officially cancelled, but isn’t coming back again since it wasn’t on the schedule for this summer. I guess that it is over because there wasn’t enough interest in it. Similar show: The Walking Dead. DVD suggestion- I’d pass on this, although I’m not sure that it is out on DVD in the first place. Reception: mostly favorable. Grade: D.

The Odd Couple: Why I’ve seen it- It first aired with a comedy that I do like and it aired on CBS where I give most shows a courtesy watch. Noteworthiness- This is a remake of a classic TV show which had the same name as this one. It is also based off of a play. Description- Basically, two friends who don’t have the same living habits become roommates with other people in the cast as needed. Notable People- Matthew Perry from Friends is in the cast. Yvette Nicole Brown from Community is also in the cast. Pros- It has its moments. Cons- This show wasn’t very good. It lacked the humor it should have had. I didn’t get it. Note to Parents- I’m not sure what there is to say about this as I only watched it once. I think that it could have worrisome parts to it. Recommendation- I’d pass on this. My Viewing Habits- I watched the pilot and never saw it again, although I did see some bits and pieces of other episodes, not entirely because I wanted to. Cancellation reasons- When it lost the lead-in of The Big Bang Theory, its ratings collapsed and its first fall season this year never had more episodes ordered to it. Similar show: The Last Man on Earth. DVD suggestion- This isn’t worth it so don’t get it. Reception: mixed. Grade: D-. It was replaced by Superior Donuts.

Beyond the Tank: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it since I saw Shark Tank. Noteworthiness- It is a spin-off or companion piece to Shark Tank telling you updates about those who had done deals on the show. Description- We see the updates of people after they did Shark Tank. Notable People- Everyone from Shark Tank returns for this show. Pros- It is nice seeing updates about people from the main show. Cons- It isn’t as interesting as good as one would like. Note to Parents- I can’t think of a single thing in here that is objectionable. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. My Viewing Habits- I saw some episodes of it here and there, but never too much. Cancellation reasons- This wasn’t actually cancelled and it didn’t even air this season which is how I know that it is now cancelled. I guess there wasn’t enough interest in it or material for it. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I doubt that this will be out nor do I know if one should get it. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: B-.

Notorious: Why I’ve seen it- Basically, there was nothing else to watch at the timeslot when it first aired unless I watched something that wasn’t new. Description- It’s hard to say for sure what it is about, but it appears to have many plots and has an overall focus on newsmakers. Notable People- Shonda Rhimes, who is known for many dramas, the most notable being Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder, helps make this show, although I’m not sure if she created it. Pros- The show is interesting and I hope that it can be good as it continues along. Cons- It seems to rely too much on sex as usual. It can also be hard to tell if these are people to root for or not. The ending leaves more to be desired. Note to Parents- I wouldn’t let your young ones watch this. Teens might be okay, but I’m not so sure about that compared to what you’d see on this show. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. I’ll watch it for now, but I wouldn’t be torn up over a cancellation. My Viewing Habits- I watched this from the start, although I’m not sure if I saw every episode of it. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were so terrible that they cut the episode order while it was still airing, although they didn’t own up to its cancellation until May per the usual false hope. Similar show: Scandal. DVD suggestion- I don’t think that this will be out and if it is, I don’t even know if I would like to own it. Reception: negative. Grade: C.

Son of Zorn: Why I’ve seen it- I promised to watch a new FOX show in the fall and this was the only one that I was remotely interested in. Description- It seems to be about an animated man named Zorn and his family. The title would have you believe that it is about his son, but I think that it is more about Zorn. Notable People- Jason Sudeiks, from Saturday Night Live, is the voice of Zorn. Pros- The show can be funny. There is enough good stuff in it to keep one coming back. Cons- This show is weird. The ending leaves much to be desired as many plots were left unresolved. Note to Parents- There are a lot of questionable things in here such as teen sexuality and other problems. It would sometimes air with a content advisory warning. Recommendation- I wouldn’t watch this again due to its cliffhanger ending. My Viewing Habits- I didn’t see this from the start, although I pretty much watched it near the start. I won’t be watching it again due to its lack of ending. Cancellation reasons- It seems there was a sudden lack of interest in this in terms of what the network was doing with it and wanting with it as they waited too long to renew an animation hybrid and that spilled death for it and the future of the show. Similar shows- The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. DVD suggestion- I’d personally pass, although I don’t know if this will be out in the first place. Reception: mixed. Grade: C-.

Mad TV: Why I’ve seen it- I was interested enough in it and didn’t really watch anything else at the time of its reboot on the CW. Noteworthiness- This was originally a late night show on FOX until it ended due to SNL’s popularity. It came back during primetime on the CW. Description- This is a sketch show. Pros- It is interesting and funny some of the time. Cons- It seems unoriginal in some ways and not as good as SNL. Note to Parents- There are bad parts of it as to be expected. If your kids are teens, they can watch it. If not, it is best avoided. Recommendation- I’d say that this is worth watching, but don’t go out of your way to do it. My Viewing Habits- I saw what I could of it, but didn’t see much as it appeared suddenly and then aired against fall shows that I cared about. Cancellation reasons- This wasn’t actually cancelled, officially at least. But it was a summer show that didn’t come back for this year so I’m calling it that even if the CW almost never admits when a summer show is really over. There must not have been enough interest in this and it is possible that SNL killed it again even though this wouldn’t have competed with it during the summer. Similar shows- Saturday Night Live (SNL), The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. DVD suggestion- I doubt that this will out although it might be worth it if it is. Reception: bad. Grade: B. It doesn’t really have a replacement since it was a summer show outside of whatever reruns they put in its place.

Big Fan: Why I’ve seen it- It worked out to watch it once so I did. Noteworthiness- This is based off of a game from Jimmy Kimmel Live. Description- This is a game show that pits fans of celebrities versus other fans and then the actual celebrity in question. Notable People- It is hosted by Andy Richter, who is the sidekick on Conan. It also has different celebrities in each episode. Pros- This can kind of sort of work as a show. It can be fun to see what all a person knows about a celebrity. Cons- It’s not as interesting or as good as it’s supposed to be. For one, it doesn’t seem like there’s any real prizes being given unless memorabilia counts. Plus, the show seems kind of dumb in some ways. Note to Parents- I don’t know what could be bad regarding this. Recommendation- Take it or leave it. My Viewing Habits- I think that I saw half of what aired. Cancellation reasons- This wasn’t cancelled, actually, but isn’t on the schedule for next season so I’m declaring it dead. Besides, its time on television was so short that some might be surprised to learn that this show even existed in the first place since it only aired for two weeks, yet this was planned instead of what some really cancelled shows are. Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- I don’t know if this would be out or worth it. Reception: somewhat bad. Grade: C.

Ransom: Why I’ve seen it- It aired on CBS, a network whose shows I tend to watch at least once if possible. Noteworthiness- This is a Canadian show that’s airing in the US. It might still be on in that country, but not here anymore. This is also a rare show to air on Saturdays which is probably why it had bad ratings. Description- People help with ransom situations. It was more based on the crimes than by the characters. Pros- I thought that it was pretty interesting and good. Cons- It may seem similar to other things that I’ve seen before. It had a needless cliffhanger ending. Note to Parents- If you don’t want your kids exposed to kidnappings and other captivity situations on TV, than this would best be avoided for them. Recommendation- I’d say that this is good, especially if it does get a second season in Canada. My Viewing Habits- I started watching with the first episode, although I missed various episodes when I couldn’t see them. Cancellation reasons- It aired on Saturdays. What other reason did it need besides that? Similar shows- none. DVD suggestion- Maybe this would be a good thing if it came out if you don’t mind its lack of an ending. Reception: somewhat good. Grade: C. It had no replacement unless you count the burn off of Doubt.

Sleepy Hollow: Why I’ve seen it- I had a promise to watch a new FOX drama the season it started and a general interest in the premise of the show, despite not likely the original story I’m not even sure that I’ve read. Noteworthiness- This is very loosely adapted and inspired by the classic story. Description- A British man from the American Revolution era is brought back to life in the present day and teams up with modern day cops to fight against supernatural creatures like a headless horseman. That was the original plot as it changed as the show went on. It mixes police procedural with supernatural drama. Pros- This is a pretty good drama. It is much better than the original story of Sleepy Hollow (unless you liked it, in which case, it is still better in my mind). Cons- It might only exist because of the fairy tale dramas (or whatever kind of story it is) that have been common on TV lately. It is hard to tell what it is about yet and one wonders how they can come up with enough episodes. Some of it is a bit ridiculous. Note to Parents- This typically airs with a content advisory warning, so it probably isn’t good for certain ages. Recommendation- I’d have to say that most people would probably like it and want to watch it all the time. My Viewing Habits- I don’t know if I saw every episode, although I might have since I saw it from the first episode. Cancellation reasons- A lot of people didn’t like it as it went on, although they did like its first season, just not any others. The ratings and attempts to improve this show failed and it was cancelled as a result. Similar shows- Once Upon a Time, The Flash, Supergirl, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DVD suggestion- I plan on getting this. Reception: positive. Grade: A.

Making History: Why I’ve seen it- I watch whatever FOX comedies air on Sundays at least once most of the time. Description- A man carelessly travels through time and messes up history so he tries to help fix it with his friend. Notable People- This show stars Adam Paley who was in The Mindy Project and Happy Endings. Pros- The show is pretty decent and works overall as a whole. Cons- This could be considered among the stupid genre of comedies. It could be improved upon in some places. It was in the present too much and they could have travelled through time more. Note to Parents- This contains some of the immaturity that I remember from high school so that’s all you need to know about that. If you are not familiar with this, then I’m glad that high school was good for you, not that it was that bad for me, there was just that problem. Recommendation- It is worth watching more than once. My Viewing Habits- I think that I saw all of this in the end. Cancellation reasons- The ratings were low so that is why it ended. Similar shows- Legends of Tomorrow. DVD suggestion- If this gets out, then it might be worthwhile to some, but while it was good, it was never that great. Reception: generally favorable. Grade: C-.

Training Day: Why I’ve seen it- I gave it a courtesy watch, although I didn’t know that’s what it would end up being going into it. Noteworthiness- The star of the show ended up dying when this was airing, although he had filmed all of the episodes for this show’s only season. This is also based off of a movie of the same name. Description- A dirty cop teams up with a rookie and both try to train the other one: the veteran to teach the new person and the good cop to teach the bad cop how to be good. Notable People- The late Bill Paxton, who mostly did movies, is in this as the main character. Pros- This show had something about it that made it interesting. Cons- This show is bad with little to no redeeming value. The dirty cop is such a horrible character that I can’t get behind the idea of him in this show. Note to Parents- Don’t let them watch it. Recommendation- This show is terrible so don’t watch it. My Viewing Habits- I watched the pilot and never saw it again. Cancellation reasons- It had bad ratings right off the bat and the star’s death destroyed any chance it might have otherwise had of staying around. Similar shows- Shades of Blue, Hawaii Five-0, and NCIS: Los Angeles. DVD suggestion- I doubt that this will be out, but it wouldn’t be worth it anyways. Reception: negative. Grade: F. Its replacement was first the returning show The Amazing Race then S.W.A.T.

The Great Indoors: Why I’ve seen it- If I can, I watch a CBS show at least once. Description- An outdoorsy person has to get used to a new job inside, a reverse fish out of water situation. Notable People- Joel McHale, who was in Community, is the lead of this show. Pros- It goes for something different and has a potential good romantic storyline with the lead. Cons- It loses points for attacking my generation. The cast seems to be too young and doesn’t exactly work that well. Note to Parents- This might not be bad, honestly, but you’d have to watch it yourself to know for sure if your kids should watch it. I can’t tell much bad about it based off of what I did watch. Recommendation- Don’t waste your time with this. My Viewing Habits- I watched the first episode and won’t be watching a second. Cancellation reasons- No one is quite sure what happened, just that it was some unknown problem. If you know, then you should post what happened in this blog as a comment to this post. Similar show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine. DVD suggestion- I wouldn’t waste your time getting this if it is released on DVD. Reception: mixed. Grade: D. It was replaced by Young Sheldon.

The Catch: Why I’ve seen it- I thought that it looked interesting. Description- A woman finds out that her fiancé is a criminal that she’s looking for. I’m not entirely sure what the name of the show has to do with what it is about. Notable People- Shonda Rhimes, who helps with TGIT on this network, is a producer of this show, although I’m not sure if she helped create it or not. Peter Krause, who was in Parenthood, is a character in the show. Pros- The show is interesting. Enough of it is worth watching and good. Cons- It can be unusual. It relies too much on sex and sex appeal. A lot of it is unrealistic and could be improved on. Note to Parents- There’s enough in here that your kids shouldn’t be watching. Recommendation- It is a good show worth watching if you have the time. My Viewing Habits- I have not seen every episode, but I have watched this since it first started airing. Cancellation reasons- As usual, the ratings were too low and there wasn’t enough interest in the show to keep it going so they ended it. Similar shows- The Blacklist and Blindspot. DVD suggestion- This might be worthwhile if this is out at some point. Reception: positive. Grade: B-.

Other cancelled shows

Uncle Buck: This was yet another stupid comedy that aired during the summer, this one on the ABC network. They didn’t care about the show for a long enough time as evident by the fact that it didn’t actually air until late and they immediately burned it off when it did air. So there’s not much to say besides that. Shows have to hate it when their own network hates them.

Party Over Here: This was a late night FOX show like Mad TV. You probably never heard of it so you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the show was actually cancelled since you might not have even known that it existed in the first place.  The main difference with this show is that it was more female centric than other shows. But that might have been the only notable thing about it.

Houdini and Doyle: I might have been interested in this, but I clearly wasn’t interested enough to ever tune into it. It was an early summer burn-off so that explains why it was cancelled as no other reason is really needed. I don’t know why they would air something this late.

Coupled: This was some reality dating show that existed. People didn’t care about it and it was cancelled as a result. Mark Burnett has some successful shows and a whole bunch of failures and this was one of the failures that he has.

Crazy Talk: I learned that this show existed and was cancelled, so I included it on this list, even though I’m not entirely sure if this is a late notice of cancellation or if this was a recent show as I don’t think that I’ve heard of it before reporting about this on the blog. I’m pretty sure this was another stupid people commenting on dumb web videos online shows, so I’m glad that this one was cancelled even though a lot of them still remain.

Beauty and the Beast: This could be described as being cancelled last season although in my mind shows part of the summer schedule are part of the previous season and not current season since it is hard to tell for sure when/if some of them are cancelled. There isn’t much to mention about this as I never saw it. I know that tons of people hated it and it stayed around a lot despite lackluster ratings. It was replaced on the summer schedule by Hooten and the Lady.

Aquarius: This was a show that lasted for at least more than one summer, but I don’t know or care that much about it as it related to a killer and I’ll never understand the appeal of those shows. Neither did viewers apparently since the ratings must have been low enough to warrant cancellation.

The Bill Cumingham Show: Okay, I messed up with this one. It ended last season, but I didn’t mention it as over until this season because I forgot to check for it. This show is forgettable and looked quite terrible based on the one single promo for it that aired over and over again. It got replaced by another show, but I doubt that you will see a review of that since I don’t care about it, know when it is on, or even watch most daytime shows.

Mistresses: I don’t know why anyone would have been interested in a show with this title about presumably awful people doing terrible things. Sometimes I watch these shows either knowing what they are in advance or having no clue that they would be this bad. But not even an actress I like (Alyssa Milano) being in this could make it the slightest bit interesting for me. It did last for more than one summer season until people apparently had enough of it.

You the Jury: I might have been interested in this, but it was already gone and cancelled before I could watch it. I’m not even sure what the purpose of it was in the end since nothing that happened actually had a legal binding affect in the end. What was the point, then?

Pitch: My brother watched this show, but I didn’t care as it was a sports show. Maybe it was interesting to some. I don’t know why it failed outside of low ratings, but when do we really know for sure why a show had low ratings? It could have been sexist people not liking it or it could simply be a poorer quality show than they were going for.

Hooten and the Lady: This is a summer/foreign show that aired in America on the CW. Its cancellation here is because it happened over there. Since I have seen this, you might wonder why this isn’t a review. Well, I’m going to mention this again in the next season’s reviews of cancelled shows due to what I consider the confusion of when shows air and when they are cancelled as a result. I just thought that I would make this note about it now.

Nancy Grace: Okay, I normally don’t mention various cable shows or things like that but I have strong opinions about Nancy Grace that I feel I should say now since I won’t have another chance again. I’m not going to mince words here: Nancy Grace is a motherfucking cunt. I can’t believe that someone is allowed to have a show where all they do is bitch and moan about everything. She constantly goes on the offensive against every known person accused of a crime especially if they are acquitted. Man I hope that this show’s cancellation will force her to get a life since one has eluded her all these years.

The Biggest Loser: I’m surprised that this show was cancelled. Well, it wasn’t actually cancelled, but it appears that it isn’t coming back so I’m putting it on this list. It actually last aired sometime last season so I thought that I would mention that it is over for those who care about it. Maybe it will have a surprise return to the schedule in the future, but this once popular show just disappearing from the schedule is worrisome enough that I doubt you’ll see a new episode again.

First Dates: There is a possibility that this show will return in the future. Indeed, it wasn’t cancelled. But there is no sign of this returning at the moment so I might as well put it on this list as shows that don’t return are as good as dead even if they are technically not cancelled ever. I might have been interested in watching this show, but I never did as I felt it would have been too many things to watch at once. Also, when there was no conflict, it wasn’t coming in and it seemed like it was over anyways so I decided that I wasn’t that interested.

Chicago Justice: This is another show that I might have watched if things had gone differently, but I decided that I didn’t care enough and there might have been too much conflict regarding what all I watched at the time. I’m surprised that it failed as it seemed to be going well. But I guess that not enough people cared or wanted another part of this franchise.

The Celebrity Apprentice: This is yet another show that wasn’t officially cancelled, but it isn’t on the schedule for the next season so I’m declaring it dead. It was popular before its original host became a racist pig and it took a year long break. The ratings were already starting to decline then. It returned with a new host and then has no sign of returning at the moment, although it could in the future after the Trump administration is long history.

Prison Break: Here’s a show that was rebooted for some odd reason and is now cancelled again. This might be a good thing since an actor from it is also in Legends of Tomorrow and now won’t have to do so much work now.

APB: I might have been interested in this, but then I learned that it had bad ratings and was likely going to be cancelled at the end of the season and the prediction this person had was right. I guess that I can be glad that I never wasted my time with it and instead wasted my time doing other things instead.

24: Legacy: They tried to redo 24 with a black person as the lead as Kiefer Sutherland was too busy leading the country as president of the United States. This was a decent ratings hit, but the network decided not to keep it around any longer.

Rosewood: Here’s an example of a show that just suddenly fails its second season for almost no good reason. Well, this time it had a good reason as it was moved to Fridays. I don’t know if this would have been interesting or not as I never cared enough about it to watch it. I have no idea why this didn’t last outside of it moving to Friday.

Kicking and Screaming: Again, this wasn’t cancelled, officially, but it is over as it isn’t on the schedule for the next season. This was a show about beauty queens and survivalists and seemed like the type of dumb reality show that makes everyone else hate reality shows.

My Kitchen Rules: This show wasn’t cancelled either, but it was since it isn’t coming back for the next season. One would wonder why FOX would need a kitchen based show or expect it to last without Chef Gordon Ramsey. With him, it would last forever. Without him, it becomes forgotten like this.

You’re Back in the Room: At one point before the season started, this was said to be a FOX show that would be airing on it. Only this didn’t happen. I cannot find any evidence that it was renamed so I can only guess that it was cancelled before it was aired.

Shots Fired: I might have watched this if it didn’t air against Survivor. It was about the investigation of a police shooting so maybe it got low ratings as people must have felt that they could just watch the news instead of this.

People Icons: Once again, this wasn’t cancelled but forgotten as it is not on the schedule for the new season. I don’t know what purpose it served other than putting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on hiatus and making the framework plot even more confusing.

Bachelor Live: This show was so forgotten, I never mentioned it as over last season when it last aired. So while it is another show that was not officially cancelled, people would notice that it is gone and never coming back if they cared about the show in the first place. Plus, it is a very bad sign for a show’s long term chances if it never even had a Wikipedia page.

My Diet is Better Than Yours: I think that this aired around Christmas time, but not last year but the year before. I don’t know why people would have cared about such a show and the network must not have either as it is gone without so much as an acknowledgement of its official cancellation as it never was officially cancelled, but it is never coming back either.

Greatest Hits: It seems that nearly every summer, ABC airs some sort of show that they never admit is cancelled when they don’t bring it back the next summer. I don’t know why so many networks can never admit such a simple thing as a show being over, but here it is, done and forgotten.

Strong: Have I run out of ways yet to say that a show was cancelled, but not officially, as it hasn’t come back in a long enough time, that means it is done even if the network doesn’t have the balls to ever tell you? I don’t know much about this NBC show that was actually on last season and not this season. I just know that they were training people for American Ninja Warrior, but I guess that this wasn’t needed as people can just do the show without the middle man.

Downward Dog: Around the time that shows around the summertime aired this year, I have to put them on this list and the next season’s list of cancelled shows since I normally wait until then to talk about those shows given how often they are not ever cancelled and I won’t know until later so I’ll explain more then about why this show didn’t last.

The Insider: This was a random syndicated show that I don’t think ever aired in my region. I don’t know what else there is to say outside of the fact that clearly people didn’t care about it and I doubt that I would have watched if it did air where I lived.

Hollywood Today Live: Let’s see: how do I duplicate what I just said in the previous paragraph in this one as well? I guess that I will say that this was a random syndicated show, blah blah blah, nobody cared about it, blah blah blah, it is over now so that’s cool, I guess.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders: You may notice that this is a CBS show but I did not review it as I never saw it as it was a spin-off of a show that I didn’t like. It seemed to just scrape by its brief two seasons on the air and only got a timeslot this season as another show was cancelled. It will be replaced next season by a show called SEAL Team.

The Carmichael Show: Since this is a summer show that aired this year, I will mention it again in the next season’s cancelled shows post. This is one of the reasons why I am writing this post now since when this happens, I want to get done with this post.     

Still Star Crossed: Once again, I’ll just wait until next year’s post on cancelled shows to explain why it ended, what it was about, and why I mention summer shows later than most other sources would. Also, I hate Shakespeare and he would have hated this sequel to Romeo and Juliet.

I’m going to do something unusual here and mention the show Bachelor in Paradise. I wouldn’t write it off as cancelled, even though it likely could end. But it had a major scandal that is likely to damage it and cause its demise. Nobody wants their show to be associated with rape so they’ll have to come up with some other dumb way of reuniting people from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Maybe send them to an ice cold mountain.

The Dying Breed of Multi-Camera Comedies

I thought that I would post this sooner rather than later as this is more time sensitive than a person might realize. Otherwise, this could be lost in a heap of planned, future blog posts that might not happen until you realize that these comedies are gone. I may have to remind you more about this before I go any further, so I think that I will.

A multi-camera comedy is one that is basically defined nowadays as one where you would hear laughter in the background while you watch where a single camera comedy, the only other major type in terms of live action comedies, typically do not have laughter in the background. There are tons of other differences besides that, but that is what it boils down to in today’s world.

First, I’ll remind you that there used to be this huge way of doing animation with hand calling it cell animation. This was not only the most popular form of animation; it was the only form that would be used. Mult-camera comedies were the same way too. Cell animation is largely a thing of the past with a few shows remaining like that from before the transition and almost nothing new made that way after CGI took over. Indeed, I’m pretty sure that the last originally American made movie to use cell animation was Winnie the Pooh back in 2011, although I'm not entirely sure if I'm right about it.

Why is cell animation a good comparison? Well, let’s just talk about how much multi-camera comedies affected all the others. The laughter in the background was used in every comedy. Even all the animated ones would use it. Then, a slow domino affected started happening. The Simpsons became the first show to use neither a live studio audience nor a laugh track. Then the original, British version of The Office went without it, which made sense as it was filmed like it was a reality show. An American show called Malcolm in the Middle followed suit. Then, every comedy show filmed with only one camera never made use of a laugh track or live studio audience.

How much did this affect TV? Let’s look at what it has already done. When the WB was a network, there was a mixture of multi-camera and single-camera comedies. After it became the CW, it lost all of its comedies unless you count Whose Line is it Anyways? They have aired hour long shows that they call comedies that, of course, don’t have laughter in the background. NBC has almost no comedies anymore. Their last multi-camera one was cancelled this summer leaving only single-camera ones. This is the network that went from multi-camera hits like Frasier, Seinfeld, and Friends to single-camera ones like Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Community.

One time, FOX had a new TV season where they had two new comedies. Their single-camera comedy, New Girl, became a hit and a success. Their multi-camera one called I Hate My Teenage Daughter was a disaster and cancelled. They have not done a multi-camera comedy since, except for Dads. This is interesting as the network’s first primetime hit was a multi-camera comedy, Married with Children. ABC started having tons of single-camera comedies and cancelled the only remaining multi-camera comedies that they had for seemingly no good reason.

This leaves CBS as the last network to dissect. They have had tons of multi-camera comedies and still do. In fact, if you were a single-camera comedy on this network, you were as good as dead by the end of the season if not sooner. Then Life in Pieces flipped the script and they are doing more single-camera comedies this coming season. It is currently the only network to still have any multi-camera comedies on the air of the major networks and possibly any network, although it is likely that Disney channel or other networks like that have something like it nowadays.

There is good reason why people may not like laughter in the background of comedies that they watch anymore. People have been wanting The Big Bang Theory to stop using a laugh track even though it never has used that (they use a live studio audience). But people are tending to prefer to just watch a show and decide on their own when they should laugh. The main reason why killing canned laughter as it is sometimes called is a good idea is that people are less likely to notice a comedy is bad that way. They are also more likely to watch a sitcom for a reason other than its humor or attempts at it. The reason that there was more hatred for bad shows like Dr. Ken and The Odd Couple was probably the canned laughter and the bad sitcoms that don’t use them may get more of a free pass.

Honestly, I don’t think that there is much else to say outside of this closing paragraph. There could be no more canned laughter in TV shows in the future. It could disappear the way cell animation did. And if it does, you read it here first.

On the Declining Use of Reruns

Maybe you like reruns. Maybe you hate them. Maybe you are indifferent to them. Maybe you care if you do and don’t if you don’t. Maybe you have mixed feelings. Maybe you like them only if you haven’t seen them before. But talking about primetime alone, you realize that reruns are starting to become a thing of the past.

You know how nowadays, you typically see one show go on hiatus to be replaced by some other show in the meantime? That helps get rid of reruns since there wouldn’t have been any time to show them at. If there weren’t an alternative show shown during the hiatus of another, then this wouldn’t be an issue. But it is and that means less reruns if there are any at all.

Typically, the summer was the only time that you’d see reruns of shows. This is still the case with some lucky shows. But it is not the case with all shows. And it is not the case with all networks either. I don’t know if there is anything that NBC reruns during the summer outside of whatever summer shows they might air. Tons of shows that are renewed for next season don’t even rerun during the summer in favor of new episodes of new shows.

While syndicated repeats will always be a thing, they are not in primetime where reruns used to be a more regular thing. Now sometimes you’ll see a network abandon a timeslot to air reruns of a show or various other shows in that place instead. That doesn’t happen too much, but it does happen enough that it is worth pointing out that reruns do still air. But like I said, this only happened when new shows have been cancelled and any real replacement has been abandoned for however so long in favor of this encore programming.

I don’t know if there’s anything else worth mentioning in this post. Reruns are becoming less common in the primetime hours of the day at least. They still show up occasionally, but they still can get replaced by various specials or other strange things. I guess we’ll see if reruns stop happening in primetime except for rare occasions when nothing would make sense in that timeslot.

Stupid Stuff TV Networks Do and Keep Doing

There are dumb things that it seems that networks do every single year and you’ll have to wonder when or if they will stop doing that. You’ll have to wonder why they keep doing dumb things that they do. What are any of them? Well, I might as well tell you.

New things air on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday every single year. Not only that, but it seems like there is always a series finale or at least season finale on one or both of those days. I don’t get why they always do this as if it is a normal day with nothing unusual going on.

Something that I really get annoyed by in some cases is when they don’t air all of a show. That does make sense since a show with terrible ratings isn’t going to get anything good by sticking around. But it can be really annoying being a fan of a show and not ever getting to see all the episodes unless you somehow manage to get a bootlegged version online or something because it never airs or is released in any other format to watch. Do you know how much it sucks to not know what will happen on Time after Time? But the rest of it will never air.

It isn’t just CBS to sometimes air things with tape delay, but since they are the most regular offenders than I just have to wonder why they are even airing football, basketball, fucking golf, or other various sports before primetime. Due to a controversy that happened one time, networks will almost always air a sport event to its completion, throwing off the rest of the schedule that we all care about. Why would they do that with us? Is airing football that good that you are always delaying your shows that air after this? Why must you do this to us? In today's internet world, you can learn the scores of games online. But I guess that doesn't matter compared to shows starting at a prompt and regular time every Sunday.

Sometimes there are just so many scheduling choices that don’t make sense. NBC a few years back aired a whole bunch of Dateline all at once instead of anything else that they could have. A lot of shows have dumb airdates such as early summer burn offs on one network and shows airing late into the summer from the main season. A modern day travesty that you see on most networks is shows going on hiatus for a long time. This messes with the ratings of it and things are of course messed up because of it.

Well, I’m sure there’s a whole lot more to talk about besides this, but you can typically tell when networks are making bad decisions and whether or not they have done that before. You can add more if you want to because I know that I missed a lot.

2017-2018 Cancellation Predictions

Well, I’m back with my next round of cancellation predictions before the main season starts. As usual, these are an overpredition containing a whole bunch of stuff that I know full well will not be cancelled. But any possible show that I think could be cancelled this upcoming season will be included in these new predictions of mine. As usual, I won’t know the full schedule in advance so you can just count anything that isn’t included as wrong (should it be cancelled) even though I couldn’t have known about it in advance anyways. I won’t be including most summer shows unless something I mention ends up being delayed all the way until the summer. Well, let’s get started next, shall we?

ABC predictions

Scandal- This one is a freebie for me as they already announced that this upcoming season would be the end. Otherwise, I might not have included it in this post. Those things aren’t often, but they are nice whenever I do this post.

Ten Days in the Valley- What Sunday shows on ABC have done well in the ratings besides America’s Funniest Home Videos (apparently) and Once Upon a Time? That is why I think that this will be another in a long line of failures on Sunday nights.

The Good Doctor- I hope that this show lasts, but once again, I can’t ignore the fact that most shows do terribly at this timeslot which is weird since the show before it still doing well in the ratings. I hope that I like this show, but we’ll see in the end if it really is good or not.

The Bachelor- Normally, I wouldn’t ever include a show like this in my predictions even if I’ll never understand the appeal of it, but the ongoing scandal involving Bachelor in Paradise makes me think that it could have repercussions on the rest of the franchise and this could end as a result.

The Bachelorette- This is here for pretty much the same reason that the previous show is. I don’t know why some shows like Big Brother would thrive off of some controversy, but there is probably no way that a scandal like the one affecting Bachelor in Paradise could end well for the show involved.

The Gospel of Evan- Sometimes a show is on my cancelled predictions list for almost no good reason other than a gut feeling that something bad might happen to it. Based off of the name, it sounds like it could be another in a long line of shows that mock religion, although you’d think that after show after show does this and fails that Hollywood would learn to stop.

The Mayor- This one is on here mostly due to its bad timeslot. Well, it might not be that bad a timeslot in the long term, but I just don’t see it lasting. Maybe it will or maybe it won’t. But I don’t have any long term faith in it right now.

Once Upon a Time- They will be changing too much of this show in the future probably leaving us with a completely different show or what is practically a new version of what they have already done. While I hope that this upcoming season is good, I just don’t think that many people will watch it. Plus, one should always be afraid when a long running show moves to Fridays.

Inhumans- First off, Friday nights are never that good for shows, even if this is more the type of show to thrive off of the timeslot in the first place. Secondly, these shows aren’t highly rated and this could wind up failing too because of issues like that.

The Bachelor Winter Games- Have you noticed how lately most spin-offs fail? If you haven’t noticed this, then that is one of the reasons why I’m putting it here. Another reason why it is here is because certain shows in this franchise like Bachelor Live and Bachelor Pad have failed and this could be yet another failure of the franchise. The most important reason is that the scandal affecting Bachelor in Paradise could taint and cancel the whole franchise.

Dancing with the Stars Junior- Why are there so many pushes to do a younger version of reality shows that are successful with kids? I just don’t get it. While some might work and last, I don’t know why this one would or why anyone would care.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.- It probably shouldn’t have been renewed for this new season in the first place. It is also getting a shorter season and one should always be worried when a long running show (well, not too long, in this case, but long enough) gets downgraded to midseason. Unless a ton of people start watching for the first time, then I just don’t see this as lasting long in the future.

Untitled Grey’s Anatomy Spin-off- Isn’t the fact that it doesn’t even have a name yet a bad enough sign that it won’t last? Plus, spin-offs based on a one-off premise in the show isn’t the type of thing that lasts typically. Remember The Finder?

Splitting up Together- This is mostly on here due to the bad title rule which states that any show that has a title that is deemed to be bad in any way (to me, at least, since I’m the only one I know who does these predictions before the season starts) will wind up cancelled at the end of the season. We’ll see what happens as it could end up being a great show.

Deception- Admittedly, I don’t know anything about this show going into the next season. But I feel that it will go the way of the last show named Deception that didn’t last long either. We’ll see what ends up happening in the long term.

Alex Inc.- This is another example of the bad title rule. It might end up being a great show in the long term or it could suck. But I don’t know much about a lot of these before I make my predictions. Besides, if this isn’t cancelled next season, I still won’t count it as wrong anyways.

The Crossing- I’m not sure how I’ll keep writing the equivalent of bad title rule in what amounts to at least three lines of a paragraph (or really long sentence) in this and every post I write on this document I use to do these updates. But I might as well try even if they don’t look like three sentences when they are published in the end.

The Toy Box- I might have had this mistakenly listed as cancelled in a previous post. It premiered at a weird enough time that I didn’t know until later that it was coming back. Hopefully they can change some of the show in the future as it is currently just a lot of push and pull for just one toy to win a competition. I do like this enough that I wouldn’t want it cancelled, but I don’t think that it will last for this or other future seasons. Plus, why is its starting air date so early into the season?

Roseanne- In addition to my bad title rule and newly created spin-offs won’t work rule, another rule that is important to note is the reboots won’t be successful rules. I don’t know how or why old sitcoms are coming back and they probably won’t last long in the grand scheme of things.

Quantico- This probably shouldn’t have lasted until the next season and I’ve heard enough potential problems regarding cast changes. It is randomly being downgraded to midseason, cutting its episode count at a key moment when having a full season would have ensured another one beyond it. I hope that it lasts and does well, but I just don’t know.

American Idol- There was a reason that this show ended the first time and that reason could lead to it ending again. I don’t know why people would want it back so we’ll see if the great ratings it once had will return or not. Typically, if it is cancelled once, that means that it could get cancelled again.

Match Game- While you wouldn’t think that a show would wind up cancelled when it does something like airing an unprecedented three seasons in a year’s time, I have not yet seen any proof that it is even returning for future seasons. Plus, I can’t ignore the fact that it quickly filled the gap of a cancelled show and those shows wind up ending themselves.

Bachelor in Paradise- If it does air in the future, it could be the end of it. If it doesn’t air, then it really is the end of it. There was a whole huge controversy about it regarding a potential sexual assault that could have happened on the show. I say this is more likely to end than stay around since it is forever tainted even if the allegations prove to be false.

Primetime: What Would You Do?- Normally, I wouldn’t put a summer show on the list, but I put any of them that I have a strong enough guess about. This show never seems to be on as much as I would like and it could last longer or it could end soon. I almost wrote it off as cancelled before I learned that it would be coming back this current summer. But it could happen that sometime it won’t ever come back and I’m prepared for that even though this is my favorite show of all time.

What I think is safe: The Goldbergs (this is already renewed past this coming season so unless something weird happens, I don’t see it as ending any time soon), Modern Family (this is also renewed beyond the upcoming season so it will last longer too), Shark Tank (I doubt that this show will end even if it is moving to a terrible timeslot), To Tell the Truth (this show keeps lasting and even if it doesn’t stick around, it will be back like it has before), America’s Funniest Home Videos (I don’t know why people still watch it or ABC keeps it around if nobody does, but this will keep lasting until people stop recording themselves doing dumb things, which is never), Dancing with the Stars (unless this is replaced entirely with the kid’s version of it, which is doubtful, I don’t see this show ending), The Middle (this show is still popular enough to keep lasting for now)

Safe predictions continued: Fresh off the Boat (I think that this has to stay around due to syndication rules), Black-ish (this is still very popular and I don’t know why it wouldn’t last), Speechless (enough people still like this last I checked), American Housewife (maybe this won’t last, but I just don’t see it failing right now), Designated Survivor (in this day and age, this political thriller is the type of thing that everybody needs and it should stay around as a result), Grey’s Anatomy (this show remains popular and I don’t see it ending any time soon), How to Get Away with Murder (I’m pretty sure that this will have to stick around if I have the timeframe of it getting a syndication deal right), 20/20 (unless we somehow run out of current events and true crime stories, then this will keep lasting)

CBS predictions

Wisdom of the Crowd- Maybe this will last, but most Sunday shows on CBS (any network, actually) don’t tend to last as long as you would like and we’ll have to see if this lasts pasts the meddling football delays from September until the end of the year.

NCIS: Los Angeles- This is not airing on a good night and will have to do a bit of a reset this upcoming season bringing us changes to the show that might not go over well with fans. This is an aging show too and that could spill doom for it.

Madam Secretary- Every season, some unfortunate show airs at 9 Central on Sundays on CBS if it is lucky, although most nights it will get pushed back to even later. This will have the worst timeslot in television history and could last beyond the upcoming season and even longer in its timeslot, but I just don’t see it lasting long anymore, especially since the election results changed everything.

Kevin Can Wait- There are too many things changing with this show between its first season and second which makes me think that it won’t last. It will probably anger too many people and I’m not even sure that I’ll like it since it is already questionable in terms of quality.

Hawaii Five-0- Maybe I don’t know enough about why Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park were let go as it seemed like they were fired for wanting their fair share of money. But this is the type of thing that can anger fans into not watching and the show is aging.

Me, Myself, and I- Woo, oo, it’s just me, myself, and I, going right until I die, baby you got me for life- oops. I got distracted there, didn’t I? Are those even the right lyrics? I don’t know. Anyways, this is on here due to me not knowing anything about it and thinking that it won’t last as a result which isn’t that good a reason, I’ll admit. But this is my blog after all and I can do whatever predictions I want to.

9JKL- This is on here due to the bad title rule and not many other reasons. Maybe it could last for a good long while or maybe it will just end after a bit. I don’t know for sure what will happen, but I don’t have high, long term hopes for it.

Young Sheldon- If The Great Indoors proved anything, it proved that a show with acceptable ratings that airs after The Big Bang Theory could still wind up cancelled at the end of the season for seemingly no good reason. Also, spin-offs recently haven’t done that well so I don’t know yet why this would be any different from the others.

NCIS: New Orleans- This will probably need a ratings boost going into it next season. Well, one source I read said that it was getting good ratings, but I don’t think that I have the right numbers that matter. It will be starting next season with a new showrunner and he will need to improve this show as best he can. There were lesser plots in the season that just aired so hopefully the show can be less dark in the future as it just doesn’t seem to work that well in the long term.

Elementary- There is so much against this going into next season that I’m hoping that it won’t have an early summer burn off a la Person of Interest. It will more than likely be airing its last season when it returns so we’ll see if that happens or not.

Code Black- Warning signs are not something that you should ignore when it comes to prediction if a show will stick around or not. Sometimes they mean nothing, but I don’t see why a show that never had a real full season order thus far or getting downgraded to midseason will return.

48 Hours: NCIS- Honestly, this is more of just a type of program that the main 48 Hours offers instead of a legitimate spin-off. That is why I think that it is safe to say that it won’t be coming back for future seasons although it might return in the future.

SEAL Team- This doesn’t seem to be a thing that will last in my mind, although it could last. I don’t know why it is even on here, but, in a way, you have to be harsher towards the newer shows as they are less likely to survive than any returning show.

Criminal Minds- The Wednesday timeslot that this will be airing at has seemed to produce at least one cancellation a season on this network. This show is aging like many others and the franchise it tried to create lead to two failed spin-offs. This isn’t successful as much anymore.

S.W.A.T.- This Thursday timeslot that it will be airing at has been poison and produced three out of four cancellations for what has aired at it during around a whole year’s time. This show will probably not last long as a result.

MacGyver- While it will probably last for a while, I’m not sure that it will. It was odd enough that it didn’t air all of the main season although it could be unimportant in the future. I guess this is another in my I don’t know much but it could happen so I might as well include it in my predictions prediction.

Instinct- What have all the midseason dramas that premiered on CBS that weren’t spin-offs have in common? They were all cancelled. While I’m hoping that I will like this as it is a medical drama, sadly that is another reason to put it on this list as I can’t remember the last medical drama that lasted long on CBS. Do you? I'd like to know as it couldn't have been recently.

By the Book- Most sitcoms at midseason on CBS aren’t doomed for sure, but they probably won’t last the way others will that start during the fall. Or, this is a drama that could fail as well. I’m not doing research like I should with this, but midseason on CBS is normally poison.

Man with a Plan- Why is this being downgraded to midseason? I have no idea. But I do know that most shows that the networks care about aren’t at midseason. If I haven’t mentioned a randomly made a midseason show rule as one that I use, then this is just another example of it.

Superior Donuts- Maybe I just found myself less than impressed by this show and that is why it is on this list. Honestly, it isn’t even a show that I outright hate. But I think that it doesn’t have as much going for it as some other shows do so that is why I think that it won’t last.

The Amazing Race- Once again, this long running show won’t start until sometime during midseason. Once again, it might not matter in the end as this time didn’t affect it in any bad way. This could just be a one season a year show from now one when it was so used to having two. But whatever the reason, I just don’t think it is as safe as it has been in the past.

Scorpion- I believe that ratings for this show were starting to drop in its most recent season. If it ends up staying too low, then this show will end. Now it could wind up not affecting the future of this show. But that is always something to be concerned about.

What I think is safe: The Big Bang Theory (I think that this is already renewed and if it isn’t, it will more than likely stay around), 60 Minutes (I doubt this show will ever be in danger of cancellation), Bull (if this ends, it won’t be soon, considering how it has a great timeslot), NCIS (I doubt this will end any time soon, although weird things could happen, but even though this will be starting with new showrunners, this will still keep lasting a while), 48 Hours (this probably won’t end unless crimes stop happening), Survivor (when has this ever been in danger of cancellation?)

Safe predictions continued: Mom (I don’t know why people like this or watch it, but they still do so this will still last), Life in Pieces (I think that this is in the right sweet spot where syndication is close and cancellation won’t make sense even if the ratings get really low), Blue Bloods (this is still going strong and I doubt it will end any time soon), Undercover Boss (I don’t know how it keeps lasting, but it does and will stay for a while), Big Brother (this should be on the schedule for next summer and if it isn’t yet, it probably will be then because people still like it)

CW predictions

Legends of Tomorrow- There are just enough warning signs regarding this that could make one doubt its long term chances at success. It has not yet had a full season, which is doesn’t need to stay around, but it should help since I don’t think that this is a limited run series like other ones are. This might last, but there are some issues to the long term chances it could have.

Riverdale- I don’t have much reason of saying that this show will get cancelled. I just think that it could do to unpredictability between seasons. It didn’t do that great this season and could wind up failing next season. Be on the lookout to see if it gets a full season order next year because if it doesn’t, that could spill its future death. This one is just me thinking things could be unpredictable and this could be a result of it.

Dynasty- This is a reboot and it doesn’t look good either. Don’t expect a cancellation from this network until May, though, unless it is a final season announcement. While it could last and could be good, I just don’t see it as lasting.

The 100- This could be close enough to syndication after this season that it might not actually be in any danger of cancellation. But it never seems to do that well in terms of ratings and those bubble shows eventually pop at some point.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend- This show may be liked by some critics, but there are not yet enough ratings for this show to stick around long term. Plus, the fact that it hasn’t had a full season yet is concerning enough for its long term chances.

Jane the Virgin- It is always very telling what shows are not shown in reruns. The ratings are waning for this show and they changed far too much of it. Plus, it is now on Fridays where most long running shows go to die. I know that Hawaii Five-0 has lasted after being moved to Fridays, but most other shows don't.

Life Sentence- This will be on at midseason which on the CW is more and more becoming a death sentence for shows simply because the network has already renewed a bunch of shows and there wouldn’t be much room for any more after that. It could last and stay around a while. But I’m harsher on new shows in my predictions because they don’t last on networks most of the time.

Black Lightning- Normally I wouldn’t be too concerned about a superhero show lasting on the CW, provided, that is, it was part of Arrowverse. But the fact that this isn’t (planned to be, at the moment at least) seems enough of a concern to doubt its chances. But if the other show is more likely to fail (given the rate of one of the new midseason shows failing and the other one lasting) than this would likely stay around for a bit longer. Besides, this is more likely to fail if people actually do think that there are too many superhero shows already, which they could.

The Originals- You can read my original thoughts after this sentence, but it is officially going into its final season so my prediction would wind up being right. This likely only survived into this season simply because the show it span off from ended last season and you wouldn’t see a show and its spin-off end in one season. (If you think that rule of mine doesn’t apply, then I’d need to know two shows that were the original show and its spin-off ending in the same season.) Its time is running out and I don’t see why it would last since people were probably more interested in the original show than this.

iZombie- This seems to keep struggling in the ratings time in and time out but has survived thus far on good luck. It being sent to midseason for three out of four times is pretty bad for long term chances and I don’t know if it can keep lasting or not so I put it here.

What I think is safe: Supergirl (this seems to be soaring high in terms of ratings and it would be too close to syndication for cancellation to make sense), Valor (this could fail, but I don’t see anything military related failing at the moment), The Flash (something huge would have to change for this to get cancelled any time soon), Supernatural (has this ever been in danger of cancellation? I don’t think that it has and it has existed longer than the network it airs on), Arrow (maybe this could end if they went overboard on the deaths of important people between seasons which we all know likely didn’t happen, but I don’t think that this will end any time soon since it is still going through)

FOX predictions

New Girl- This is officially ending sometime next season so to not include it on this list would be dumb since it will be the final season coming up. There’s not really much else to add besides that. The final season will air and that will be that.

Bob’s Burgers- This is more of a fill the crack show, the type of which doesn’t tend to last that long. However, it has lasted as long as it has and Undercover Boss has also lasted while being this type of show. So if could last, but this is here in case it doesn’t.

Ghosted- Maybe this could last, but I don’t see it as happening. Shows that air after The Simpsons tend not to last. Outside of that, it seems like too limited a premise to work and it could be too weird for most viewers to care about.

The Orville- What Seth McFarlane show can you think of that hasn’t gotten cancelled at least once? If this is the only one, then that would be because it hasn’t had the chance to be cancelled yet (although a lot of shows are cancelled before they ever air like Murder Police). While this could be great, a lot of what he does is hit and miss and I don’t think that live action shows suit him well.

Lucifer- Maybe this is only on here because I don’t like it, but I also don’t see it having a long term chance on television. This is too weird for most people and doesn’t have enough episodes yet for its upcoming third season to justify coming back more.

The Gifted- If this is the type of show that I think it will be, it is a show that I’ll love and be upset that it was cancelled by or at the end of the season. FOX does well with most of the X-Men franchise in movie terms (by making lots of money, if not critical love) so I don’t know if they need a live action X-Men TV show although I hope that it can be as good as some of the movies and last.

Lethal Weapon- Maybe I don’t have that good reasoning for this being on here. But I think that it is moving to a lesser timeslot or later in the season. I don’t have the reference for this right now. But I think that it could be cancelled and that’s all that matters.

The Mick- I’ll admit that this is only on here because I hate it and I haven’t even seen an episode of it yet. These shows can be on my prediction list for any reason and me not liking a show that is probably absolute shit is a good enough reason in my mind to think that it will be cancelled.

Star- This show is awful and is too much like Glee by trying to make a point about different touchy subjects in the absolute wrong way. I don’t understand the point of it and think that it won’t last very long in the future which is why I’m putting it on this list.

The Exorcist- Here’s another show that probably shouldn’t have survived into this next season. But it did and I won’t think that it will last another one. But strange things happen with TV shows all the time and it could stay around, but I don’t see that as likely.

The Resident- The only other medical drama that lasted a long time on FOX was House. It seems that this show will also have a shady protagonist as a main character and other characters of morally questionable intent. Maybe they want this to be the next House. But I don’t know if it will last as there are too many things against it already.

9-1-1- This is here due to the bad title rule which states that if for no other reason, a show with a bad title will wind up cancelled at the end of the season. Maybe this will end up being a great show that will last for a decade. But knowing nothing else about it, I’ll still put it on this list.

LA to Vegas- Here’s another example of the bad title rule which can often be irrelevant in the long term. So we’ll see what this ends up being about and if it ends up being good, but I don’t think that I’ll be interested enough unless it is.

The X-Files- I don’t think that FOX cares enough about this show. It has been over a year since it has aired a new episode and I might have written it off as cancelled if they hadn’t announced that they were in fact bringing this back for another season. In short, they don’t care enough about this show and that is why I think it will end yet again.

What I think is safe: The Simpsons (I think that this is already renewed and even if it isn’t, it will likely stay around even if people don’t remember that it is even on), Family Guy (this will keep lasting for as long as people want their weekly dose of political incorrectness), The Last Man on Earth (this has lasted as long as it has and I think that it is close to syndication and will stay because of it), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (this might not need more episodes for syndication, but it is still flying high and I feel that it will last longer as a result)

Safe predictions continued: Empire (a lot of people like this show still so it will keep lasting), Gotham (Thursdays can be hit and miss on FOX, but this show has never been in danger of cancellation before and it seems likely to last longer), Hell’s Kitchen (only if Gordon Ramsey were to die or quit doing TV would this be in danger of ending), MasterChef (this will last as long as Gordon Ramsey is still around), MasterChef Junior (here’s another show that will stay as long as its host keeps doing it)

NBC predictions

Law & Order: True Crime- This is already mentioned as an event series meaning that they don’t care unless it gets good ratings in which case it will actually be back. When it has a limited premise in the very beginning, then it likely won’t last.

Will & Grace- Most reboots don’t last. I don’t know why they are bringing this back. Maybe there is a good enough reason to bring this back, but I don’t know why. I don’t even know if it will be the same type of show that it once was which could also be a problem.

The Brave- This show isn’t airing at a good timeslot so that’s against it. I don’t know what else there is to say about this so that I can come up with the three lines that I always like to write for these posts (three lines is minimum as I can go over).

The Blacklist- Maybe I don’t have a good enough reason to put it on this list, but I think that it might not do as well on Wednesdays at such an early timeslot. While I guess a show there can last, there would have to be more of them in the future for me to change my mind about the timeslot.

Great News- While maybe this wasn’t too much of an illogical renewal going into this season, most comedies on this network don’t last anymore as evidenced by the few comedies they have and the short amount of time that even the longest running among them lasts.

Blindspot- Here’s another long running show moving to Fridays. Of course, this is more likely to last if it is indeed on its third full season in a row. I guess that we will see what ends up happening, but if it is borderline like this, I’ll put it on my list.

Taken- This shouldn’t have been renewed for another season given its lackluster ratings the previous season. Because of that, it could wind up cancelled like many other shows before it that also suffered the same fate.

Timeless- If they cared about this show, it wouldn’t have been cancelled originally. Even though they are actually bringing it back, I just don’t see it lasting as long. I repeat myself a lot in this blog post, I realize. But it helps me make my point.

The Wall- Maybe it is just me, but I don’t see this as anything more than a Plinkco rip-off that I’m surprised can be milked out for a whole hour. Plus, the only game show that has really lasted long on this network is Hollywood Game Night so I don’t know why this one would stick around long.

Good Girls- I know nothing about the show going into it which is why I think that it might not last going into it. I have nothing but a gut feeling thinking that this will not last. Maybe it will be a good and interesting show, but I just don’t know.

Reverie- Here’s another show that I know nothing about outside of its terrible name. Well, maybe it is a good name. I honestly don’t even know what reverie means. I could look up synonyms on my laptop and google it. But I don’t think that I care and I don’t think this show will last.

AP Bio- I actually do know the plot of this and it sounds absolutely terrible. Can you imagine if they tried to do Breaking Bad as a comedy? Well, that seems to be what the plot of this show is about, only not anywhere nearly as good as Breaking Bad might be.

Champions- I think that I’m running out of reasons for why I’m putting some of these on my list. But I don’t think that this show will last and I’m not even sure that I have a good reason for it. Also, why are so many NBC shows at midseason now?

The Awesome Show- Surely a show that calls itself awesome would be awesome, right? Maybe it will be, but I don’t think that a strong, declarative name helped Best Time Ever last so I don’t think that this show will last as a result.

Ellen’s Game of Games- Ellen DeGeneres has a great talk show that I wish I could see on a regular basis but almost never get a chance to anymore. But I think that everything else she has tried to do on television outside of her show didn’t last. I guess we’ll find out if First Dates returns, but I don’t think that it will and I don’t think that this will last either.

Genius Junior- Hopefully this can avoid being another quiz bowl scandal show like Our Littlest Genius was, a show that I remember being advertised, but was cancelled before it even premiered due to a scandal. While this show likely won’t be affected by a scandal, I just don’t see it lasting long as kid based shows don’t always have the same appeal that most shows would nor would they last sometimes even if they do other times. Regardless of how confusing this might sound, even with a scandal, this should still wind up cancelled, at least according to me. Or it could wind up as popular as Little Big Shots.

The Handmade Project- This sounds like another in a long line of lame reality shows. While I can at times get occasionally interested in some reality shows, this one just sounds like it has short lasting written all over it. I don’t know if it even is reality.

Rise- Here’s yet another show that I feel has a bad title. Let’s come up with the rest of this paragraph. I just love to talk. Blah, blah, blah, and blah, blah, blah. Isn’t that interesting? I wonder just how similar I sound to a broken record at times.

Trial and Error- One would wonder why they would do a show that has to start fresh again each new season and expect it to last a long time. One can wonder why this isn’t milking the Emmy’s best limited series nomination every year like so many other shows do.

What I think is safe: This is Us (somehow, it is already renewed for a third season when it got a second season renewal), The Voice (this is popular and keeps lasting somehow even though it is a rip-off of American Idol that somehow killed it), Superstore (while I said that most NBC comedies don’t last, I feel that this will for now as they need something), The Good Place (this is one of the most creative shows that I can think of, although this might be too different or have a sudden ratings drop), Chicago Fire (this is likely to keep lasting as the franchise stays strong), Law & Order: SVU (there is no reason that this show will end any time soon)

Safe predictions continued: Chicago PD (I see no reason why this would end at the moment), Dateline (if there is one fact about NBC, it is that they will keep airing Dateline until the end of time), Little Big Shots (this is a popular show and will keep lasting as long as Steve Harvey is still alive), Shades of Blue (this is a show that we need as it makes conflicted people look very interesting and can be a surprise that the writing or acting doesn’t get it Emmys), Chicago Med (here’s another popular show from a popular franchise that will likely stay around)

Well, that’s all for this post of mine. I don’t know if I forgot to mention any shows and I know that a lot of what I don’t know about and isn’t mentioned yet won’t be in these predictions and will be cancelled as usually happens. And that’s pretty much all there is to say.

Summer Shows 2017

Well, it is finally time that I start doing the reviews of summer shows. As always, I will start with my reviews of new shows before switching to reviews of existing shows whether you have seen these reviews before or not. This may not be the only batch of summer shows that I’m reviewing this time around. You should see the other sets later.

Hooten and the Lady: Show Description- A shady man and a woman seeking artifacts go on strange adventures together. Behind the Scenes- This is a British TV show that is airing here in America for the first time. My Thoughts- It is a fun and good show that seems mostly realistic. It may run the risk of having crazy plots, but it seems pretty good for now. I give it four out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This will last on Sky 1 for as long as British people want it. Whether it lasts here on not is unknown at the time. I’d guess that it might not last, although it could. Just know that British shows tend to last shorter than most American shows do. Where to Find- On Thursdays at 9/8 Central on the CW

Live with Kelly and Ryan: Show Description- A continuation of the Live talk show, this has Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest hosting a talk show. Behind the Scenes- I should note that this isn’t really a new show as it is mostly just the continuation of an existing show. After Michael Straham left Live, they needed a new, regular cohost and they have one now with the former (and soon to be current again) host of American Idol. My Thoughts- There’s not really much to add here except that if you liked the version before, than you’ll like the version now. You can check the archives for reviews of previous versions. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This show will keep lasting regardless of the host changes unless they somehow lose both hosts at once. Where to Find- This TV show airs during the daytime hours around 9 in nearly all time zones, to my knowledge

Salvation: Show Description- A meteor is coming to strike the earth and wipe out mankind, but some people are trying to stop it while it seems the government or someone is trying to cover things up to make it seem like it doesn’t exist. Behind the Scenes- There’s not much to add here so I won’t say much more than this. My Thoughts- I’ll admit, this seems unoriginal. But it still seems kind of interesting. I do hope that we see more character development in the future. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This more than likely won’t last as it seems too limited a premise to maintain a multi season show. Where to Find- On Wednesdays at 9/8 Central on CBS

Steve Harvey’s Funderdome: Show Description- Entrepreneurs with similar ideas compete against each other to fund their projects. Behind the Scenes- This is hosted by the talented Steve Harvey who also hosts Family Feud. My Thoughts- This is pretty entertaining. But, it does have some flaws. It seems like ABC has enough of these types of shows already. Plus, the idea that someone could wind up with nothing or someone could cash out and miss out on the prize they would have gotten seem pretty dumb. Still, I give it four out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I’d say that this has a good chance of lasting for now, but I don’t know how long it could stay around. Where to Find- On Sundays at 9/8 Central on ABC

The Gong Show: Show Description- People compete in a talent show where bad acts get the gong and are taken off stage. Behind the Scenes- This is a reboot of a popular former show. My Thoughts- It can be dumb at times as a lot of the acts are hit and miss. Plus, in the current format, only one person has to hit the gong to get someone to stop their performance, which doesn’t seem far when there are three judges. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I’d have to guess that this probably won’t last. Where to Find- On Thursdays at 10/9 Central on ABC

Candy Crush: Show Description- Teams of players compete in different versions of this game in order to win money. Behind the Scenes- This is based on the popular Candy Crush app. My Thoughts- It seemed crazy yet kind of good and interesting. The puzzles could use some work on, but I think that it could be good. At least it isn’t another reboot. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I don’t think that this will last. Where to Find- On Sundays at 9/8 Central on CBS

Love Connection: Show Description- In this show, a person goes on a date with three other people and the audience votes in advance of learning about the dates who had the best connection. If they guess right, the person wins money and the date. If they guess wrong, the person has to choose between money and the date. Behind the Scenes- This is yet another reboot. My Thoughts- It seemed kind of lame to me, another in a long string of largely uninteresting reality shows made to exploit people’s desires to be with one another. I give it one of out five stars. Long Term Prospects- I have no idea. It could last; it might not. I have the feeling that it won’t last. Where to Find- On Thursdays at 9/8 Central on FOX

Superhuman: Show Description- Different people who have extraordinary abilities compete against each other for money. Behind the Scenes- This was based off of a one-off special that they did on the network before. Kal Penn, who currently stars in Designated Survivor, is the host of the show. Mike Tyson, who is a controversial wrestler, is one of the three judges. My Thoughts- It seemed pretty cool and interesting to see people show off their strange abilities. I’ll admit that the people seem too perfect as I have yet to see someone fail and their difficult task. I give it three out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- This might last or it might not. It all depends on whether or not the network likes it enough to keep it around longer. Where to Find- On Mondays at 9/8 Central on FOX

Battle of the Network Stars: Show Description- Different celebrities compete in weird games. Behind the Scenes- This is a reboot. Joy. My Thoughts- This didn’t seem to offer much of anything. It seemed about as lame as the average sport game. I give it two out of five stars. Long Term Prospects- I don’t think that this will stick around. Where to Find- On Thursdays at 9/8 Central on ABC

Here is where we transfer to the existing shows that air during the summer. Some of these reviews you may have seen before, but others are new or updated reviews to this blog. Any show not starting its first season this summer will be reviewed by me here if I’ve seen it. These reviews are next.

Celebrity Family Feud: Status- Currently on ABC at 8/7 Central on Sundays. Why I’ve seen it- I was able to catch a rerun. Description- This is basically the same as Family Feud, only the people competing are from famous families and competing for charities instead of themselves. Also, winning people wouldn’t be back on future shows like in the regular game show. Notable People- Steve Harvey, well known comedian and current talk show host who also currently hosts the regular version of Family Feud is the host of this show as well. Pros- Everything that you’d love about the regular Family Feud is in this show as well. Celebrities are competing for charity so it is all for a good cause. Cons- To make this an hour, they cram what are two half hour shows into one episode, which I find strange and unnecessary. A lot of the questions relate, intentionally or otherwise, to sex. Note to Parents- You might have some stuff to worry about for the really young ones, but other than that, it should be fine. Recommendation- I’d say that this is worth watching. My Viewing Habits- I haven’t seen much of it yet, but I might be watching more of it in the future. Prediction- This show comes and goes already so even if it ends, it could come back. I’d imagine that it will probably stay as a long term summer show for a while. Reception: somewhat positive. Grade: B+.

The $100,000 Pyramid: Status- Currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Sundays. Why I’ve seen it- I was interested in it and didn’t really have anything else to watch at the time. Noteworthiness- This is a reboot of the pyramid game show. Description- People have to get various questions answered by the other contestant. The current format has a regular person paired with a celebrity and they compete against another team like them. Partway through the game, the regular person is then paired with the other celebrity. Notable People- Michael Strahan, who used to cohost the Live talk show and still helps with sports commentary, is the host of this show. There are famous guests who help each show. Pros- The show is fairly entertaining and funny to watch. Cons- It is weird that they always put together two halves of a show into one hour long show instead of just making this one half hour show while finding other things to air. Parts of the format are a bit strange and don’t entirely seem fair in a way. Note to Parents- This is mostly acceptable outside of potential sexual things said. Recommendation- I’d say that people would like and watch this. My Viewing Habits- I don’t always watch but do whenever I can see it. Normally I watch when I can. Prediction- This could last and it might not. Whether it does or it doesn’t, I’m not entirely sure of. If it doesn’t last, it will probably still be revived at some point anyways. Reception: good. Grade: B. New review

Hollywood Game Night: Status- Currently on NBC at 8/7 Central on Thursdays. Why I’ve seen it- I generally like to watch game shows and there was nothing else to watch during the summer when this first started to air on TV. Description- Two regular people compete in a game show of various competitions. Each has a set of three celebrities (six total) that help them with the game. Notable People- Jane Lynch, from Glee, is the host of the show. Sean Hayes from Will and Grace helped create the show and sometimes appears as one of the players. Many of the guest are obviously famous (notice how I do not say all because fame is relative) but since they always change, I would not be able to mention all of them. Pros- It’s fun to watch the show to see the various antics played out by everyone. As usual, the celebrities are competing for charity instead of themselves. There are different games each week to keep things interesting. Cons- Not all of the games seem fair in every way. A lot of the show is redundant by the same games being used over and over. Note to Parents- Some of this is questionable, but most is okay. Recommendation- I’d say that you should probably watch this if you ever have the time to do so. My Viewing Habits- I don’t always watch, but I like to when it works out. Prediction- Right now, it seems like a show that fills any gaps in scheduling. Things typically don’t end well for those shows, even if they do last long and always wind up airing instead of possibly getting cancelled. But I will say that I expect it to stay around for a while, provided that they can keep getting celebrities to do this show. Reception: positive. Grade: A-.

Whose Line is it Anyways?: Status- Currently on the CW on Mondays at 9/8 Central. Why I’ve seen it- I liked the original show and am a general fan of improvised comedy. Noteworthiness- It is the remake of an ABC show and retains much of the original cast. Description- A group of comedians make up stuff and make us laugh while competing for meaningless points. Notable People- There are guests from certain shows that are noteworthy, whether they are the fourth member of the group (which changes) or a different special member. Aisha Tyler, who helps currently cohost the Talk, is the current host of this show. Pros- This is more or less the same great show that we all knew and loved when it first aired. Most of the original cast is back. Even though everything is made up, it still manages to be really funny. Cons- There are normally guests on the show that tend to slow things down and take away from the talent of the true part of the show. There tends to be some sexual related things that come up often enough. Note to Parents- Some of the humor is not things you’d want your kids watching, but most of it is okay and shouldn’t cause any problems if they watch it. Recommendation- You should probably watch it. I don’t know why one wouldn’t like this. My Viewing Habits- I try to watch this as often as possible, although I know that I miss it a lot. I watched the original version when it was on too and plan to keep watching it until it ends. Prediction- This should last a very long time, provided that the cast can stay together throughout the run of this show. I’m pretty sure that the cast not being able to stay together is what killed it the first time, although low ratings didn’t help. Reception: positive. Grade: A+.

American Grit: Status- Currently on FOX at 9/8 Central on Sundays. Why I’ve seen it- I was going to watch it when it first aired, but I felt I didn’t have enough time for it then. Now, I’ve decided to watch it some this time around. Description- Four teams of four compete to get a prize by doing various tough competitions. Pros- If you like most reality shows that air on network TV, then you’d probably like this too. Cons- It falls victim to far too many reality clichés (people fighting, self-centered people) and doesn’t seem as tough for people as other reality shows are. Note to Parents- This may be good in some ways but bad in others. You’d have to watch to know for sure. Recommendation- I’d put this at a toss-up right now. My Viewing Habits- I don’t know how much of this I’ll watch, but I could see it more than I have. Prediction- I don’t know if this will last or not and think that it would lean towards cancellation. Reception: good. Grade: C-. New review

Zoo: Status- Currently on CBS at 10/9 Central on Thursdays. Why I’ve seen it- I always watch a new CBS show once whenever I can. Noteworthiness- This is based off of a book by James Patterson. Description- Animals seek to take over the world. Pros- This show is different by presenting a man versus beast story not typically seen on television. Cons- I didn’t think that there would be much to this show or anything about it that would make it good. Well, it turns out that I was right. This show is pretty terrible and boring. Note to Parents- From the promos and what I remember, I think that this show is pretty gruesome for kids so teens can maybe watch this, but not much younger than that. Recommendation- I’d pass. It isn’t a good show. My Viewing Habits- I watched the pilot and then never saw the show a second time. Prediction- This could last a while longer, but I’m honestly not sure yet if it will or not. I’d say that it’s just as likely to be cancelled as it is to stay around for future seasons. It’s hard to guess. Reception: good. Grade: D-.

Penn and Teller: Fool Us: Status- It airs on the CW at 8/7 on Thursdays. Why I’ve seen it- It being a magic show interested me enough into watching it. Noteworthiness- Originally, this was a foreign series that had lasted a single season and was cancelled. It aired in Britain, but not in America for a while. After it aired in this country, the show was brought back for a second season. Description- Various magicians compete for a chance to be an opening act for Penn and Teller. They get to do a trick for them and get to be the opening act if Penn and Teller can’t explain how the trick was done. Notable People- Penn and Teller, famous magician duo are not the hosts of the show, but they are panelists of a sort who judge the trick and reveal whether or not they were fooled. Pros- With a standalone format, this is the type of show that you don’t have to watch every week. The tricks are entertaining, regardless of if Penn and Teller are fooled. You get to see them perform a trick at the end of the show to keep things interesting. Cons- Whether or not Penn and Teller are fooled, we don’t know what the secret is behind the trick. So, basically, if people don’t fool Penn and Teller, we still don’t know how they aren’t fooled. I will say this, though, the tricks that fool tend to be better. Note to Parents- Anything potentially offensive in this show is relatively minor compared to most other shows. Recommendation- If you can watch it, then you probably should. My Viewing Habits- I haven’t always watched this compared to other shows. I do watch it if there is nothing notable I feel competes with it, which it doesn’t at the time. Prediction- I think that this show will last a while, although it will obviously end if something happens to Penn and/or Teller. Reception: positive. Grade: B-.

To Tell the Truth: Status- It is currently on ABC at 10/9 Central on Mondays. Why I’ve seen it- I was interested enough in it to watch. Noteworthiness- This is a reboot of the same show by the same name that has been around every so often. Description- Celebrity panelists have to guess who there is really who they say they are and not just pretending. Notable People- Anthony Anderson, who currently stars on Black-ish is the host of this show. Pros- It can be funny at times. Cons- It can seem pointless. There should be more to it in the modern version. Note to Parents- This may be the standard amount of what you’d find objectionable so I’d say that you should watch an episode for yourself to see if you think kids could watch it. Recommendation- If you aren’t watching anything else at the time, you’d like this. My Viewing Habits- I’ll probably watch this when I can. Prediction- This could last a while, but I don’t know for sure if it will or not. It will be on during the fall. Reception: good. Grade: C. New review

Masters of Illusion: Status- It airs on the CW at 8/7 Central on Fridays. Why I’ve seen it- It first aired right after a show that I normally watch. Noteworthiness- Looking up the history of this show, I found out that it has aired off and on various networks in recent history. That means that if it ends, it could be brought back. Description- Simply put, this show has various magicians doing performances for people. Pros- A lot of stuff happens in one episode. Tricks and magicians always change so you know you can expect something different in each episode. The show happens quickly and this isn’t something that you always have to watch as the episodes are always standalones. Cons- Well, some of the pros can also be cons. They seem to focus on putting too much in a single half-hour. A lot of the tricks are things you’ve seen before. Note to Parents- There isn’t too much in here that would be worrisome for kids to see. All one would have to worry about is mild innuendo every now and then. Recommendation- I would say that you should watch it if magic is the type of thing that interests you. My viewing habits- It can be hard to stay into this show although I do watch it at times, but not always. Prediction- I think that this show will last a good while and if it ever ends, it can come back again as it has in the past. Reception: somewhat negative, although, it was hard for me to find a good place that mentioned the reception that the show got. Grade: B.

Big Brother: Status- This CBS show airs in three hours of primetime during the summer and on live internet feeds at www.cbs.com. The three primetime hours are basically split into the mostly live show where people are voted out, the show where people get nominated to get voted out, and the show where people compete to possibly change the nominations on the show. Basically, you’d have to watch the average week of shows to get the way it airs. The current airing schedule has it on Sundays at 8/7 Central, Wednesdays at 8/7 Central, and Thursdays at 9/8 Central. Why I’ve seen it- A parody of it on the Talk interested me in watching the real thing. Noteworthiness- There are many versions of it in other countries, most of which work very differently than ours. In case you were wondering, we were not the first country to do this show, although we were the first country to use the format that it has in almost no other country’s version of it. Description- A group of people, normally strangers, but sometimes not, are put into a house where they are recorded 24/7 and competing for a money prize. Notable People- Julie Chen, formally of CBS’s the Early Show and current co-host of the Talk, is the host of this show. She has hosted this show longer than any other host in any other country’s version of this show. Pros- While it may seem similar to other reality TV shows, it is very different to the usual. You can see whatever you want to online since CBS has live feeds of what goes on inside the house. Cons- The live internet feed gets cuts a lot making it seem like the people that air the show is hiding something. Tons of controversies have arisen on the show. Note to Parents- I’d say that teenagers can watch this. I wouldn’t go with much younger than that as the typical episode can have enough objectionable things in it. Recommendation- Despite the rather lengthy cons section that I just mentioned, this show is a pretty good show to watch. My viewing habits- I got into this late and for varying reasons don’t know yet if I’ll watch it again. Prediction- It will probably last a long time, although it just as easily might not. Reception: mixed. Grade: B-.

Primetime: What Would You Do?: Status- This is an ABC show. It is a spin-off of 20/20. ABC news helps with this show. It airs on Fridays at 9/8 Central. Why I’ve seen it- Commercials made it seem interesting. Cancellation of The Good Guys helped me decide to watch it. Noteworthiness- It is the first hidden camera show I’ve seen that wasn’t out to exploit people for laughs. It is actually very serious. Description- Different situations are set up to see how people react to them. The point is to get people to react to a situation and get them to help people out. Very serious situations are acted out using issues such as coming out, unwanted pregnancy, racial issues, gender issues, and more. Pros- It shows the good side among people and how they actually help sometimes. It is very interesting and could make good teaching material. There are different segments in each episode to keep you interested. It probably is a more realistic version than any scripted show could come up with. Cons- Some segments are better than others because some segments are just pointless. A certain amount of deception is involved with the people. All the shooting locations tend to be in the same locations. The Would You Fall for That? segments are pretty dumb. One can question the legalities of this show. Note to Parents- Some segments might be okay for kids and others are not. I’d say that it depends on your mood to be honest. Recommendation- Everyone should watch this show. This is the best show currently on television. My viewing habits- I haven’t always watched this in the past but always watch it now whenever I have the chance. Prediction- It should be on until they run out of ideas, which is unlikely that they will. Whether it will stay around is for the viewers to decide. I think that it will last a while. Reception: positive. Grade: A++.
